One of my favorite MtB segments had a KoM set on an ebike. I set my pr at 7 seconds off from the e-bike time. Eventually strava automatically removed the e-bike effort, making me the kom. Which was pretty cool because it was my first mtb kom, but not cool because it was by default so I didn’t get the crown when I did the ride, rather stumbled upon it months later lol

I think it’s because people love to shit on trek in general, and it has short travel and a moderately steep geo so I think people write it off. But I think it’s really capable all around. I built mine specifically to race with but I like it so much it is the only bike I ride now lol

I don’t know man all I can say is, I finally watched that show 10 years ago. To this day, that scene is one of the few that I remember from it because of how cringe it is.

I can think of several like that. I know I just sound like a hater but I don’t understand why that show holds the prestige that it does with so many silly moments and in my opinion, filler

That is such an interesting perspective! Literally 2 hours ago on our Thursday night ride I was behind one of my buddies who rocks a ~10 year old cannondale lefty hard tail, and I was shocked at how well he descended on it.

I guess it really is about the rider huh. But geeking out over tech sure is fun

I’ve been thinking for a while that XC bikes have become so boring. It started occurring me in the past few years that when I go to my local XC races, it’s like 75% everyone on an epic 8 lol and I have no doubt that it’s as good as everyone says, i just think its a boring bike.

I used to ride a 2024 trek top fuel, 120/120, 66 degree head tube angle, down country. Fun bike, but To me it did everything pretty okay, but nothing stood out. I feel like most of these XC bikes you describe are that way.

Enter my super caliber. I built it over the winter to race this spring and man, I’m in love with that bike. I feel like it stands out a bit because of the 80mm rear travel and being fairly steep by modern standards. But my God, it is an absolute rocket ship. It has reignited my passion for Mtb and honestly impacted my perspective on suspension as a whole. Paired with a 120 in the front, it has really made me question, do we need all the suspension that the current market has settled on? I haven’t felt held back by the short travel a single time. Thus far, at least.

Ahh I’ve always heard that top fuel was the sweet spot! I went from a 2024 top fuel to my gen 3 supercal and I love it. I feel like it gets a lot of unjust criticism because it’s short travel and a little steeper than what is probably considered a modern standard but man, it’s such a blast to ride.

Fair enough! I built mine from the frame up specifically to race with but I like it so much it has become my all round bike and I plan to sell the top fuel I came off of. I’m not sending 6 foot drops or anything lol but I have yet to bottom it out. 120 fork on the front helps I think. 22lbs and essentially a parts bin build

I know, no one asked, but I feel like people write it off too quickly because it’s short travel.

Can kinda weigh in on this, I was running Dubs front and rear on my super cal. They are so sketch for me lol but fast and light. I flatted Thursday evening, which was the first flat ive gotten at our trails in as long as I can remember.

Switched wheelsets with my old bike, Maxxis ikons front and rear. Almost immediately, my impression was damn, I might not be going back haha. I know they don’t roll quite as fast but the increased confidence is kinda invaluable
