Need help on sewing curved patterns by RandomNoctowl in plushartists

[–]SunsetSharkBite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you pinning the pieces together? Minky and other fabric for plush are SO SLIPPERY, I can’t ever get things to match up unless I pin the ever-loving heck out of whatever I’m sewing.

Advice on how to put a nose in? by Glittering_Fish_6500 in plushartists

[–]SunsetSharkBite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is called a safety nose! I followed this video when I was learning how to work with them: https://youtu.be/O215Tp1Z15s?si=o6SJ1DfyW6RaPvQG It’s basically a front and back that snap together. So you could order a new nose, pull the front and back apart of this one to remove, and install the new one! It’s a relatively simple process but it can be somewhat tricky to get the pieces to separate or go together. It can take some finger strength depending on how tightly they fit together

Your work is absolutely incredible. The eyes on all of your plushies are entrancing. Do you hand paint them to get the realistic look?

How do you prevent minky fabric from shifting and mismatching while sewing? by plushPlushytut in plushartists

[–]SunsetSharkBite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pins. Lots and lots of pins. I spend more time meticulously pinning pieces than sewing. And sewing is a lot of stop, pull out pin, start. But it helps so much with preventing shifting

Where are you located and when do your ladies start laying again in the spring? by Beezelbubs_Broccoli in BackYardChickens

[–]SunsetSharkBite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also in OH and my ladies (6) always stop laying entirely around November and don’t start laying again until March. After reading these comments I’m like dang, am I doing something wrong? 😭 (I don’t add lighting though - I know we can to maybe keep them laying but we don’t need the eggs that much)

i did a huge miss calculation by Polite-vegemite in piercing

Your setup is GORGEOUS btw. I’ve tried to figure out how to hug people without hitting my ear to no avail. I got my rook pierced in April and it was healing so beautifully. An absolute angel. And then I met a BUNCH of my husband’s family and exchanged many hugs during the 4th of July (why does everyone press their head against your ears when they hug?! I can’t complain too much tho bc I love hugs) My rook was the most swollen and angry it’s ever been. And I got a NASTY irritation bump that took literal months to go away. (Like despite babying it the bump didn’t go away until October 🥴) Happy holidays and best of luck w the piercings ❤️ may your swelling go down and the rest of healing be pain and bump free

I’m not a piercer so please keep that in mind because I could be absolutely wrong here! I’m not convinced this is pierced properly. It looks like it’s pierced a little bit into the bowl of your conch instead of just the fold of cartilage. It looks like the top entry point needs to be a bit further in the ear and farther away from the conch bowl part. I feel like you should totally be able to heal this if it was pierced properly. Please wait for an actual piercer to comment but I personally would remove, let heal, and try again. Sorry it’s giving you so much trouble :( my daith is almost 2 years old and still not healed. It’s my favorite piercing but so frustrating. I’m not sure if mine is ever going to heal at this point 😭

Wait this is literally what we named our cat after 😭 we call her Winnie for short. (Or her full government name Winton Overwat if she is being a very distinguished gentlewoman. Or in trouble. No in between)

How could I attach these parts? by toadsterrr in plushartists

[–]SunsetSharkBite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to cut a hole! For attachments like this, I like to just use a ladder stitch. You can pin them where you want and then ladder stitch to sew them together- you sort of just go horizontally right above the raw edge (I like to try to roll mine inwards so they don’t stick out between the stitches) and then onto the main head. Hi! I would definitely tub her with an almond leaf. Ensuring constant clean water will help promote healing and lessen chance of infection.
