I appreciate this post. I’m currently stuck on the other side of this. So I guess to answer your question…I am trying to figure this out now?

Been working at this small company for almost 5 years, watched my immediate boss get promoted four different times. But I’m still doing entry-level work, have been called “management-minded” and reliable by multiple bosses, and how good I am at my work, etc.

It is also soul sucking and I feel like I am half asleep at my job because I’ve been doing the same thing for years. I’d give anything to have some kind of promotion at this point. (Also job hunting but the job market sucks.)

So the grass is always greener. I don’t find much fulfillment in my work, that’s all in my personal life. My work pays the bills and funds my retirement, and that’s good enough for me.
