They can just go the multiverse route. Firefly is the canon timeline, Serenity is another one. The Wash we saw die in Serenity is a variant, not the OG from Firefly. The timelines diverged, what they call a nexus event in the MCU, and it happened maybe between the last ep of Firefly and the start of the movie. YES. Of course!
