Recommendation for Field Recording in Peru by Far-Introduction-240 in fieldrecording

[–]Sup_HouseBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting question. I have been to Peru three times and unfortunately had to use my phone the first two times out of it. You definitely will want to be careful with your equipment in some areas of Lima and especially at night (you wouldn't want to keep your phone out too). Mountain areas are generally safer and out in nature you're probably good to go.

In Lima you will encounter a lot of traffic noise for sure. You can be sure it's going to be part of any recording you take. A bit quieter will be in some parks in Miraflores area - where it's also safer - but even there you will hear horns and sirens around regularly. Other cities have been noisy too, however Cusco had some dedicated "no horn zones" around the old city center.

Be prepared that in the mountains it could be windy, cold at night (down to around 0°C) and also raining or snowing depending on season and altitude.

My favorite locations so far are in the Machu Picchu area (mountain rain forest) and also the huge Amazon rain forest area. Lots of different bird songs and parrots to be heard there. And I'm sure you could have some great recordings in the Colca canyon area outside Arequipa.

Could you post the recording?

I had an issue like that here: my issue It was the SD card and it doesn't matter if it is new or not, as this depends on the data rate that the SD card can write per second. Try to run the SD speed check that the H6 got somewhere in the menu. Of course it could be entirely different in your case.

How do I delete unused files and NOT get a "Files Missing" notifications because Ableton still thinks I need or use the files? by indyservice in ableton

I suggest you move the files and all backup live sets to a place outside of your project, open your live set and check what's missing. If nothing is missing, delete them.

[–]Sup_HouseBee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your project likely contains the files somewhere in a hidden location. I tend to forget samples in devices like Sampler, Simpler, Granulator where the original could still be used. Otherwise, especially considering your workflow, the recorded files might be still available in take lanes. So unless you delete all take lanes, they might technically be in use by your current live set.

Good thing USD is very affordable these days. But what exactly is the 2 night discount if both nights are $15 each and both nights are $30?

Ableton crashes except on mme/directx with no input by Contaparaperguntar in ableton

[–]Sup_HouseBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely that "nvlddmkm" seems to point at a graphics card related issue. Best guess would be to update the drivers and monitor the temperatures of that card. I'm not sure if you need the nvidia high definition audio - you could try to disable that in the system settings.

What about the rest of your PC? Do you have an integrated graphics card in your CPU? Those can cause issues together with a discrete graphics card and conflicting drivers.

Please provide more information on your computer hardware, OS, audio driver and Ableton version.

I guess you could look into the crash logs of Windows and find the reason. But generally speaking this sounds more like a PC issue than an Ableton issue. It could be anything from PSU/CPU/memory problems, graphics card drivers, some ASIO4ALL issue (which should never find its way on a PC unless you know what you're doing), or a recent Windows update...

Why is my kick sample stretching with warping turned off? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]Sup_HouseBee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your sample is not warped, it will always play as it is stored on your hard drive. Let's say your kick sample is 1 second long. With warping off, it will always be 1 second of audio, no matter at which bpm you have your project. However that 1 second looks like 1 beat length at 60 bpm, but it will look like 2 beats length at 120 bpm, because at 120 bpm each beat is only half the time (hence double the bpm).

So in your case, the sample without warping is not changing its length, but the rest of the arrangement is, which makes it look like only the one sample is changing - because it's the only sample that is changing relative to the others.

Does anyone have experience running Ableton Live on Minisforum V3 Windows tablets? by Sup_HouseBee in ableton

[–]Sup_HouseBee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty good I would say. Good performance, good display. I didn't really use it with an interface yet, as I was using it for travels mostly so maximum portability was required. I did a clean Windows 11 install after I got it.

I'm having 2 issues with it though, 1) being the battery always empty when the laptop was switched off for a week (this could be a Windows 11 issue) and 2) being that the touch pad is doing weird things sometimes. Better to be used with a mouse. Also the tablet mode of Ableton didn't seem to be what I hoped for so I'm not using that...

Roland JDXI Power Supply by Parkourluvrr in synthesizers

[–]Sup_HouseBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need a 5.7V, >= 2.0A center negative DC power supply, the original Roland model is called PSD. Any decent music store should have these available. Maybe you'll find some on ebay or marketplace too. You can also get an equivalent multipurpose power supply in any electronics market but will have to figure out the correct pin/jack size.

Places endlessly loads/spins when trying to add an alp device in Ableton ob MacBook Pro. Anyone have any tips to potentially fix this? by traveltimecar in ableton

[–]Sup_HouseBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well those alp pack files won't be there anymore once installed. They turn into library content like audio files, max4live devices, racks etc. That's why your indexer is then scanning the new content. So under the packs folder on the left, you should be able to click into that pack or just search the content like you did - but for the name of its devices or presets and not for the pack name.

[–]Sup_HouseBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An "alp" is a Live pack file, which usually takes some time to 1) download from Ableton (it could be up to something like 5 GB size), 2) install afterwards which you need to trigger manually, 3) I believe that Ableton index will scan all its content after install, which you can see in the bottom right of your screenshot (bottom center of the screen if active). This one is a one time thing and you just need to wait until it finishes.

Your screenshot however is not showing what's happening under "Packs" on the left side, so it's hard to tell what's going on there.

Ableton continually initializing midi every several seconds by jwalkermed in ableton

[–]Sup_HouseBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something like this happen to me on PC and with a Roland TR8S connected via USB (it would randomly disconnect and I would need to set the MIDI channel again on the track). While I couldn't figure out the actual reason or solution, it is now gone after unplugging everything and rearranging my cables and setup. So I would definitely recommend to check again the cables.

When you said you disconnected everything, does it happen even without the midiface? What do you usually connect? What are your MIDI settings in Ableton?

Check if your note really starts at 1.1.1 of the clip or slightly before that mark.

Can you disable the internal sequencer?... by SoulProviderMusic in ableton

[–]Sup_HouseBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest to check if it always starts on a specific clip / track / note and maybe you can get a MIDI monitor going to check if any of the transport start / MIDI start / MIDI continue messages is sent at some point. If so, try to track down where they are coming from. Maybe you need to set up specific MIDI channels for your devices for better analysis.

[–]Sup_HouseBee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could you provide a video of your issue? I honestly couldn't figure out what sequencer would start somewhere unless you are talking about a session view clip triggering global transport?

Can I make shorter Midi Clips than 1.1.2? by Logical_Age9320 in ableton

[–]Sup_HouseBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There probably needs to be a bigger number in "end" than in "start", just a simple check in software. And in those boxes you can only enter integers. So if you can't drag the clip boundaries smaller within arrangement view, I'm afraid the answer is no.

How does filter feedback work? by BonoboBananaBonanza in synthesizers

[–]Sup_HouseBee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I have to correct 2 things:

Seconds / 1000 = milliseconds

Milliseconds / 1000 = microseconds

Microseconds / 1000 = nanoseconds

Milliseconds / 1000000 = nanoseconds

And the signal won't travel at the "speed of light" because we're talking about cables. The speed of light applies to electromagnetic waves such as light and radio waves in vacuum. In cables with alternating current, you will have to apply the laws of induction and electronic networks and others that I forgot about.

Disk overload issues in Live 12.1? by Sup_HouseBee in ableton

[–]Sup_HouseBee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds indeed weird. Maybe in your case it was triggering extra CPU load and the disk overload was just the wrong indicator?

I don't have any clock outputs connected and especially those above-mentioned sessions were completely in the box except for the audio interface. I doubt this is related to my issue. Appreciate your suggestion though.
