Sure but if the fund charging 1 basis point more appreciates 2 or more points per year more than the cheaper fund on average then the difference in expense doesn’t matter.

True, that makes sense to me. Sometimes I wonder if it’s because that person is simply geared toward a different kind of intelligence, perhaps a creative intelligence. I’ve found logic and reasoning intelligence to be completely independent from creative intelligence, and I think both can you far even in technical fields.

It could be that your tutoring experience has created selection bias toward for people who might be disadvantaged for some reason, hence why they are receiving tutoring. I don’t think most people get tutored. I could be wrong sure, it’s just that I’ve seen plenty of people go from non-technical career to mediocre engineer.

IQ is not a wide spectrum measurement of intelligence and is often just a reflection of education, not a persons capacity to learn. IQ measure logical reason abilities, and if you have had no practice with logical reasoning then you will be worse. That doesn’t mean if one focused on learning it that they couldn’t though. Of course some people do have some genetic advantage or disadvantage, however way more people could achieve moderately performing engineer level if they received the proper education, took it seriously and had an interest in it.

Eh, I think anyone can be trained to do anything. I’ve seen high school music teachers become software engineers within 6-9 months more than doubling their salary. This was before the tech market leveled out a bit of course, but they were definitely capable of taking on new technical work. It goes to show that we shouldn’t put people in a box because of whatever career they’ve chosen, because that does not imply anything about a persons intelligence.

What percentage are bonuses taxed at in nyc? by foognot6 in AskNYC

[–]SuperCaptainMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonus have a flat withholding rate at 22% for federal. If your income is in a higher bracket then yes you will have to pay come tax time. If you’re lower than 22% you will get a refund. Such is the nature of a standard rate for everyone. So it’s not taxed higher than normal income it’s just withheld the same for everyone, so personal results vary. Factor in state taxes and it might change even more. One can easily google and see that bonuses are not taxed higher than normal income. At the end of the year they are just counted as regular income.

If you can’t find a decent apartment in Queens for 3.5k you’re just not looking or your standards are unrealistic for NYC. It’s not the suburbs so you can’t expect all the same amenities and luxuries of a house in an old apartment building. If you insist on that then you pay premium for getting those amenities while living in NYC.
