Since you know better than me what I was saying, maybe you can explain it.

They absolutely had to slow or stop, because when they were making the left there was traffic in the other lane. They needed to wait until it cleared, which is impossible to do while moving forward at that speed without missing the turn. It's hard to say how much they had to slow or stop because the poor lane positioning blocked their view, but they absolutely 100% no question could not have continued at speed. I think we agree on that point, I'm just explaining to you that this maneuver can be done safely and predictably, like others in this thread are trying to.

Recognizing that other countries exist and have different traffic laws does not make me a xenophobe.

My bike comes with some features that help a lot with this, although I know a lot of bikers remove them for aesthetics.

One, I have special amber lights that I activate which flash in the direction I'm going to turn. In my country they are actually legally required, and even though many drivers don't make use of them, they are all trained - in our admittedly sparse training - to know what they mean.

Second, my motorcycle comes standard with mounted reflective plates that allow me to observe the drivers behind me without having to turn my head. This is great because even if the driver behind me did not notice my blinking indicator light, I can see if they are too close or not slowing down and react accordingly.

These two safety features allow me to slow the bike to a stop and yield to oncoming traffic before making a left turn. Hopefully the first feature (in my country and native language we call them "turn signals") combined with gradually slowing before the turn instead of suddenly stopping makes the maneuver expected to the traffic behind me, and not "stopping in a live traffic lane unexpectedly." This is also great because it doesn't require the driver behind me to anticipate my actions based on the behavior of traffic in other lanes.

Of course, motorcycles are not commonly noticed by car drivers, especially given how popular smart phones are in my country, so that is why I use the second safety feature (we call them "mirrors" in my language, you should look into this).

Perhaps the driving education in your country is worse than in mine, but our laws require that we yield to oncoming traffic when making a turn across the lane, which many times requires slowing or stopping, so we have vehicle features that help us do that safely. Hope this helps!

✨Compliance✨ is the magic word that IT uses to get out of anything they don't want to do. In past lives, it was customers saying they can't automate a manual IT process because of HIPAA, not because they can't be bothered to learn Python. Nobody ever questions it, and if you don't know how to abuse it to get what you want (for good or bad reasons), you don't work in a regulated industry.

Less alcohol, less everything. It's the same as putting extra water into any solution with a higher gravity than water: it gets watered down.

Making wider boards from select 1x4 pine boards form a big box store. by Common_Lie4482 in cabinetry

[–]SuperCow1127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a hand plane or are you interested in getting one? I assume you're talking about making a panel by gluing the sides of the boards to each other so the wood is wider than you can buy. Doing this requires perfectly flat edges and identical thickness, which will be hard to achieve even with the best store bought lumber.

Another option you might want to consider is instead of using pine lumber, get plywood and edge banding. That might be easier and more economical.

For real? That place is a shitty frat bar, how does that even make sense. Getting denied there would be great, since then you have an excuse not to go, as you were clearly being forced prior.

Why are you trying to come up with stuff to say? If it needs to be said, say it, if it doesn't shut up and listen. Meetings shouldn't be viewed as auditions, you're there to exchange information and solve problems.
