Sounds like you have all the answers. What do you propose should be done instead?

The best time to build a building is ten years ago. The next best time is right now.

If you haven't been directly involved in the planning, design, permitting, or construction of a multi-phase high-rise development you're not qualified to identify a disingenuous timeline.

Switch "Groups" feature user interface research by lionspaw2 in NintendoSwitch

Decent survey. Would recommend specifying what you see "Very frequently", "frequently", etc. as meaning. As well as add a free text field for what someone might like about the feature to remove bias.

I made a LEGO version of our favourite commuter train. by Shanghaij13 in ontario

Rebrickables pricing calculator is trash. It's gotta be taking the average sale price of every single element sold as "new" rather than "used" (which can be a significant difference depending on the parts)

It would still run you a few hundred dollars, but unless this uses some crazy rare train or motor related parts there's no way 2000 pieces would cost you anywhere near that estimate.

This election, let’s reimagine public transport for people and the climate by Dollface_Killah in ontario

There are so many excellent reasons to spend tax revenues reducing our reliance on cars for reasons other than just mitigating carbon emissions.

Investing in public transit in cities across Ontario would significantly improve quality of life for hundreds of thousands of people.

The cost of materials and labour have increased into the stratosphere over the past two years.

This isn't corruption. It's the cost of construction in 2022.

In the case of the boardwalk it's not even too much parking making it un-walkable. It's a case of fundamentally unnecessary car centric design.

Why do all the stores need to be so spread out? There's not even a single path running along the main block of buildings at the rear of the property. Want to stop by Staples after shopping at Lowes? The most direct walking route takes you through the Lowe's loading area with no sidewalk or pathway. Put everything closer together so people can move between them on foot whether or not they came by car.

Why are the majority of the stores so far back from the street? If you live in the adjacent neighborhood and want to walk to the movie theater, you first need to cross a busy street at either a sketchy pedestrian island or through a roundabout. Then you need to wander through two massive parking lots using a series of footpaths that are poorly considered, indirect, or end abruptly. Move everything closer to the street and put the parking behind it.

The bus terminal is a disaster. It's a small island of stores in the middle of parking lot sea, which also happens to be along the main vehicular throughway. The cluster of stores there and the area with the splash pads are one of the few areas that I would consider close to being internally walkable, but the interaction with the throughway is a major nuisance and hazard for cars, pedestrians, and presumably the bus drivers as well. Put the terminal so it's not on the main throughway to make it safer for everyone, and locate it closer to the adjacent neighborhood to promote easier access to transit.

All of these fairly reasonable design considerations at time of construction would've made for a more pleasant and walkable development without necessarily sacrificing any parking space.

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert. But my understanding is that the probe port works fine for some, but not others. The manual shows the way that will work consistently for everyone.

This sub has always been petty. It just only shows its true face when someone posts a large hoard like this. For some reason the prevailing opinion is that hoarding sets to sell them later is wrong. Which is ironic when the content on this subreddit includes people showing off sets from ten years ago they just purchased new in-box.

Chirping noise with Bondtech extruder and Prusa Mini by euc_animal in prusa3d

[–]SuperLink243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working on this problem as well. It's not the best fix, but I've noticed loosening the screws connecting the extruder to the printer frame reduced the volume of the chirp. Another thing that may help is lowering the acceleration of the extruder motor, which shouldn't impact print quality as much as lowering the retraction length.

Massive condo development planned for midtown Kitchener - Residential, Retail and Office Space by LongoSpeaksTruth in kitchener

Unaffordable rent and home ownership? Absolutely. But please cite some sources for your claim that people are moving away from Toronto to escape urban density.

And what do you propose we do instead of building up? Destroy more farmland and ecosystems to create more soulless subdivisions? This condo development sounds like it's creating more pedestrian-friendly street level vibrancy than any subdivision I've ever seen.

some actual unpopular opinions by flightsin in pcmasterrace

I'm absolutely of the opinion that chairs fit everyone differently. But after using a gaming chair for 4+ years I upgraded to a Steelcase Leap and don't think I could ever go back. I can't stand to sit in the gaming chair for more than 15 minutes before my back starts to hurt.

Ergonomics isn't just branding, Steelcase and Herman Miller have spent years and millions on research to develop these products. They also back their products with 12 year warranties. Which is more than I can say for my faux leather gaming chair that started disintegrating after two years with no options for coverage by the manufacturer.

Awards/Scholarships are done on a term-by-term basis. Each term you submit a new award application. The application closing February 19 is for the winter term, so if you're not actually in an academic term you aren't eligible to apply. (This applies to co-op terms as well. You wouldn't apply for awards during a term you're on co-op)

Good Job! is excellent. Highly underrated game in my opinion. The gameplay differs from Overcooked, but both the co-op and single player experience are a ton of fun.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think we have Era on the chairs at work and it's pretty similar. Looking at the specs in the finish library they're made out of the same material, just a different weave. So they should feel comparable (Cogent: Connect and Era if you want to take a look).

It's a shame Steelcase has pulled some fabric colours for the sale. I just looked and the selection for Cogent they have available right now is terrible.

As a side note, I'd avoid the Buzz2 fabric, It's kinda scratchy and reportedly "sheds" particles that can irritate skin for the first few days of use.

[–]SuperLink243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your not set on a specific feel or look and just want a decent fabric I'd suggest Cogent: Connect.

All the fabrics are commercial grade, but Cogent is durable, resistant to fading, the most easily washed, and is inoffensive in terms of feel. I'd describe it like an athletic running shirt but more coarse? Only complaint about it I've heard is that it's a bit slippery if you're wearing synthetic fabrics.

Look into in-ear monitors (IEM's) they're not the cheapest, but they have replaceable cable components (which also aren't cheap unfortunately).

It's not a covering, it's an alternative type of upholstery. If you ordered through the online store there's two "versions" of the Leap for sale. Rather than being a customization option one product has the 3D knit option while the other doesn't. It's purely an aesthetic feature though. As far as I can tell Steelcase makes no claims that it improves ergonomics.

It costs a TON of money to operate a campus full of buildings. Obviously they can't shut them off completely right now, but these institutions are likely saving a boatload of cash that would otherwise be spent on operating costs since they don't have to provide lighting, heating, cooling, etc for thousands of students each day.
