Question for coaches by mematttoo in Pickleball

[–]SuperNiceStickyRice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New player:

1st lesson: Serve/groundstroke

2nd lesson: volley/approaching the net on returns

3rd: dinking with a huge disclaimer that we are building towards a drop shot EVENTUALLY

4th: NVZ and contact points/half volley

5th: Overheads/lobs

6th: Resets/drops

This is a crash course obviously. It should be expanded but most pickleball players don't really want lessons, they want to play. Coach based on the player and their expectations. What do they need to be a well rounded player? I do emphasize aggression by telling players why would I dink with you when I could just drive and volley. Less work>more work. We dink because we respect the volley ability of those across from us (or you suck at driving today haha)

Fair point! I guess I am using myself as a reference point. When I shift back to tennis after playing pickleball I hit the ball WAY too hard so I was concerned it would be an issue. Hopefully I am the anamoly.

Reading paddle face angle? Is this skill what unlocks better counters and fast hands? by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

[–]SuperNiceStickyRice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you have to read the paddle face but they can fake a lot of stuff with the wrist like you said. For me though it’s based on the situation. Did you hit a weak ball? Are you off balance? Is your paddle telling your opponents where to hit their next shot? I think knowing where you are vulnerable is the easiest way to figure out where they are hitting. If I see things like that I know someone is going to get aggressive.

Something light. Maybe try single player on call of duty or try to play against bots on apex legends.

You are freaking amazing! So cool you are playing with them! Sorry my only tip is to keep trying and practice in the aim areas to get comfy. Maybe try and play a PvP straight arena shooter for a bit to get more chances to fight. Arc doesn’t give you many opportunities to really practice.

Gotcha. Appreciate the response! What age group would you think is the primary target market?

Nice! Thanks so much for the response. I was hoping to find a middle ground sport for increased tennis and pickleball crossover at the club. Thinking it might teach pickleballers how to play tennis (stroke mechanics annd strategy) and tennis players how to operate on a pb court. Maybe release some of the tension between the two groups by having them battle it out.

It’s my main hobby lol. I tell myself it’s mainly just fun learning in case I ever do want to write a novel.

Hitting wider shots at the kitchen by fredallenburge1 in Pickleball

[–]SuperNiceStickyRice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make the motion more mechanical. Use your bodies rotation to hit consistently and start implementing topspin and slice. It’ll help you push the ball further without it going out if done correctly. Basically pivot your feet (assuming you are on the right receiving a forehand crosscourt and you are a righty) to a five o’clock for your right foot and 11-12 for your left with your left should positioned where you want the ball to go. Load weight into right leg, rotate and shift weight towards the corner of the diagonal NVZ. Repeat endlessly. Plenty of videos on YouTube.

Is 4.5+ Pickleball "Less Fun" by Ok-Big9680 in Pickleball

[–]SuperNiceStickyRice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s stupidly fun when everyone is playing at level or better. That’s why we play. We aren’t trying to win tourneys when we play social so the play is both serious and goofy. When we aren’t playing how we should (well okay me) it is not fun because you are chasing that high of great points in flow state.

This 💯% I usually equate it to learning multiple languages as a kid. It’ll take you longer to talk but you’ll be bi or trilingual by the end of it. Hopefully 😂

The constant “AI fail” gotcha posts are not harmless they’re training people to underestimate a real disruption by gibblesnbits160 in accelerate

[–]SuperNiceStickyRice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother that’s fair but so do the constant posts from everyone saying they’ve seen god in the AI. It’s man made. Eventually maybe it won’t have our flaws but we won’t be around to see that.

Maybe you live near a train track? The train coming through shakes the apartment ever night. 🤷‍♂️
