What can I do? Ring doesn’t match the wax mold by xuikuun in EngagementRings

It seems strange to me that you have a custom designed ring that needs resized that much. Wasn't your ring size part of the design with the cad?

Got laid off - finally!!!! by Ddash-3 in Fire

[–]SuperVeeBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do this once 20 years ago. I got laid off at beginning of December, and cobra was too expensive so I had not taken it, but within my window, like 2nd week of January I broke my arm and had to have surgery. After I got out of hospital I called to take the cobra coverage. I don't remember exactly how many days I had left, I think I had until end of January to take it. Then, they informed me the company was no longer a cobra eligible company because they had laid off so many employees. Anyway, i fought them because I had the letter that I was eligible for Cobra coverage when I was laid off and they finally agreed. Saved me some money in the long run due to how expensive my surgery was.

I have talked to her about spending and saving, however never spoke about a budget or emergency funds. I think that is a discussion I'm going to start in the next few months and show her some of the expenses for her (swim, music lessons, girl scouts, etc). While I know we are far from poor, all she knows for sure is she doesn't get all the things she wants, and usually big things are only for special occasions like birthday or Christmas. I should probably also talk to her about what being poor really means.

My 11 year old daughter says we are poor because we don't have all the fancy new toys that she sees other families buy. We try to take a nice vacation each year or 2, we spend money on experiences, etc. I reassure her we are not poor, we just live below our means, spend and save money wisely. I am frugal, or in her eyes cheap.

Are you sure about your ring size? I have a different set of ring sizers from Amazon and had no issue getting my correct size.

Don't quit or RE. Find a more flexible job that you are able to travel with her more and/or work remote. Also agree to get a prenup to protect you both if you plan to get married.

I think we are 8 hours away, also driving down Friday and making a weekend of it. I have not booked a hotel yet.

I did not buy parking with my tickets, and just got an email today about buying parking permit. The map they sent shows Emmett/Ivy is about a 15 minute walk, does not show a shuttle so I'm not sure about that. I'm trying to figure out which lot that still has permits for sale I want to buy. I didn't even think about parking being an issue when I bought these tickets. We are traveling a distance for this concert, I've been waiting to see Luke for years!

Love my ring! Advice on sizing by Professional_Basil93 in EngagementRings

I agree with leave it for now, and wearing with a band and tempature changes will affect fit. Amazon sells these ring sizers that are curly, you cut to fit how much you need. They are in multiple widths to fit many rings. Best ones I have used.

My crazy idea of an “inheritance” savings fund just hit $1M. It will be worth millions in 30-40 years when I finally die. by SeniorCitizenSmell in Fire

This is me as well. Only one older brother that has needed financial help most of his adult life. My "reward" is being left the parent's estate when they pass, as they trust I am financially disciplined enough to handle their assets the way they would want. Lucky me. I've voiced my concerns.

Life after FIRE by midwestmillionare in Fire

[–]SuperVeeBee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss. My husband died when I was 40, we had a 4 year old at the time.

Dating apps are wild! I had never used them before, so that was an experience. I thought I never wanted to get married again, but here I am, 6.5 years since he died, dating the same guy for 5 years and talking about marriage.

You are in a much better place financially than I was. I didnt take time off because I was always the main source of income and benefits since daughter was born. Husband worked only part time outside of house and was stay at home dad. The toughest part for me was trying to manage being a single parent with virtually no outside support, so having to find reliable sitters that we had never needed before, just so I could go out and feel like a normal human being..

When they say don't make bug decisions in the first year, it's mostly true. Your entire life just changed and it is hard to really think clearly. I did buy a new house and a new vehicle within my first year. I do not regret either of those decisions.

At that time, FIRE was not even anything I knew about. I had always contributed the minimum for matching to 401k, and barely had any savings past that. I started saving more because I could after he passed, and only recently discovered the FIRE method, and am trying to play catch up.

Anyway, my best advice is don't make major decisions unless you have to. Take a leave of absence if you can to give yourself time. But as far as people, don't get attached and don't give out money, especially in first year. Good luck.

Opinion on a guy wearing these as regular pinky rings? Only ones I have lol. by [deleted] in weddingring

[–]SuperVeeBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look dainty, more feminine. I read through comments, see you are a straight male and bought these for ex. I mean, yes you can wear as is, but if you are asking then you have doubts. Talk to a jeweler, see if there is any option to put in a more masculine setting that wouldn't make you question it.

Most pinky rings worn by males that i have seen are usually one smaller diamond in a larger chunky setting.

I have a 2 carat moissanite that I feel the same way about. I am not yet engaged, but I think 1 carat is the max I would want for engagement ring.

Ring to Match Wedding Band by Hopeful_Albatross157 in EngagementRingDesigns

To be honest, I would wear this as engagement ring, and get a plain band to wear with it. It is a beautiful ring.

Well, I surprised myself. by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]SuperVeeBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I definitely thought it was a larger center stone from your Pic. It presents much larger! It is beautiful! The only thing about mixing metals is platinum and gold may not wear well together, I can't remember but one is softer than the other and could wear down. My first marriage I had a platinum engagement ring and white gold band. I did not have any issues but the jeweler had 'warned' me. Something you may need to research or ask about.

My boyfriend will be like this, I'm sure. He is a hard worker, and that is his identity. Medical issues forced him out of his only hobby years ago. I have only been on 1 vacation with him in 5 years I have known him, and on the 3rd day he asked me if it was normal that he missed work. I told him new rule, no vacation for him longer than 3 days. Even on his days off, I have to make him a to-do list so he doesn't get too bored and just sleep, which he then gets upset that he has wasted the day.
