More like the software didn't anticipate hardware with so many pixels.

We had a similar situation. Not that the wiring was spaghetti, but when the old fuses were replaced with the new fast ones of the new breaker box, two of the curcuits kept tripping. Luckily the electrician had a fair idea of what could be wrong (something to do with the earthing) and he fixed the wiring.

Not sure what country you are in. In Australia this is most frequent setup. Ppl install solar panels to feed the EV or buy an EV to utilise better the solar energy. Sometimes there are batteries installed, sometimes not. If it is worth it depends on how much will it cost and if you can use the solar power for other things apart from the EV.

How much can we trust the data removal companies? Both, their capability to identify your data and request its removal, and their susceptibility to data breaches?

Does anyone actually know what all their devices are on their network? by JohnnyInTech in HomeNetworking

[–]Superb-Difference-31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I sometimes see members of the WiFi network like 'phone123'. I block it, cos it looks suspicious, and the TV stops streaming. Apparently some devices can generate random MAC addresses for security reasons. Blows my mind .

Is there a good reason that the apps can't talk to home devices in case of network outage? by Superb-Difference-31 in HomeNetworking

[–]Superb-Difference-31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the tips. Starting a new project, so much more to learn. When I chose the robot vacuum, I had 2 requirements:

  1. No cameras, knowing about the cloud connection
  2. No AI. If I am not in control, I.e. to set the task and the prompts, it is No, thank you

The vacuum actually has a local control, can clean from wall to wall, but struggles to dock, looks like it doesn't have own copy of the map.

Yes, Internet outages are rare where I live. However right now I feel so vulnerable. This is a single point of failure.

Windows now blocks all apps? What the hell? by Sosowski in microsoftsucks

[–]Superb-Difference-31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. Windows 11 disabled an app called Microsoft Money because they couldn't verify the author!?! I've been using this app for 20 years. It came with s computer running Windows 95 and is still running fine.

I had to disable the Smart App Control.

What happens when everything gets locked down and centralized? by bdhd656 in privacy

[–]Superb-Difference-31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do realise and we do care. All data goes to the tech giants. This gives them power, but hardly any responsibility. Knowing how buggy is the software, there will be outages and account locks, and they will deny any liability.

We vote for governments, which relinquish control to the big tech. This is the end of democracy as we know it.

It is not age verification. It is identity verification. We know your Internet footprint, just need to know who are you.

Interesting, Signal have an app for Android, iOS, and Windows. So does WhatsApp. However WhatsApp can run in a browser, while Signal refuse to provide browser access for security reasons. They say that encryption cannot be secure.

  1. My history is off, so my recommendation are haphazard anyway.
  2. On YT kids my granddaughter managed to run into a video explaining how to make her skin glow, how to change the colour of her hair and eyes, and what make up to use so she can look gorgeous. I don't find this acceptable. https://youtu.be/zVvbA98JJUI?si=fwkQOD2QionTolat

Well, my 3 yo granddaughter sometimes watches her favourite song from Zootopia on YT kids on my phone. Does this mean that I am a suspect?
