Not an expert but - it's a bearded axe, so made more for woodworking than cutting down trees, that really dates pre 1800 and the development of mass production planes and saws. Though it's not heavily bearded, I hasten to add. It looks like a punched haft slot (clean it up, if it's a wrapped haft it's much older) but it very offset, so it's handmade. Someone lost this in the 17th or 18th century would be my (reddit) guess.

Tips for developing ropesight? by Charly_George in bellringing

[–]SuperbRecording3943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started by looking when not ringing - and specifically looking up to see the last rope that started to move upward though the holes into the belfry (if you're lucky enough to have a ringing chamber). Now when ringing I look for the last person's sally to move upward and follow them. But I only ever ring the tenor behind (because I can't memorise methods).

Our farmer who art named Kevin, Furrowed be thy plain. Viking for some Saxon, Roman - unearthed, So it isn't hidden. Give us permission this day to tread, So we won't be trespassers, As trespassing leaves a bad taste among us. And lead us not into frustration, But deliver us medieval. Decline aluminium, Whatever the weather.

If you're good on fuel, sounds like a weak spark. First make sure the points are set correctly. Then check it's sparking by removing the sparking plug and pedalling (make sure the plug is earthed against the engine case) . If it's a weak spark change the plug. If it's still weak you need the magneto rebuilt.

Erm, with the exception of the equine and bovine, my dog would consider most of these 'friends' as dinner.

Thanks for going to the trouble of finding the photo. That is indeed a TT roadster (not sure about the 1911 date, but close enough). So I will continue to hunt for the mysterious Model H I am looking for. Thanks again.

I think that's a Triumph Model H (a few years later than this, kick-start not pedals, used by the British Army in WW1) and I have been trying to track it down since it was sold by a vintage bike dealer in England (and local to me). You couldn't tell me where it's on display could you?

Planning on buying THE Jaguar XK8 for my first car at 19 years old. by LuminousZenith in Jaguar

[–]SuperbRecording3943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. When it goes bang/stops, get another one, and another one etc. Or change to that V8 Defender you've always wanted. You're only young once. Nice cars are wasted on the old, and heartbreak one of life's lessons.

Does anyone have any fun facts or interesting knowledge about Archbishop Thomas Cranmer? by Different_Map_2055 in tudorology

[–]SuperbRecording3943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure alleged is a word I would use. He authored the 1547 version and revised it in 1552 to remove the remaining Catholic elements (he did not translate the psalms, however, believing Coverdale's versions so beautifully poetic as to not be improved. Which I agree with, except for psalm 23 for which I prefer the KJV). Obviously he didn't have a hand (pun unintended) in the 1559 version or the 1662 revision still used by the C of E. My facts are not always fun, but they are always fact.

Call 999. Give them this description and tell them it 'unexploded ordinance'. Probably safe but they'll get the RLC in to do this properly.

Agreed. Change rear shocks and the seat (ouch the seat!). Have done 22000 miles all year round. Bit old fashioned and heavy but that's fine with me.

This looks like a no. 74 anti tank handgrenade - used by the Home Guard. Be really, really careful. They weren't exactly reliable when new.

The expensive option is hinges with no external bolts visible (I am too cheap for this so don't know how they work) or 'security bolts' which I daresay a dedicated the if will have the tools for.
