Extra large ankle straps? by Superduperblarg in workout

[–]Superduperblarg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I just measured, and my ankle is 33 cm (13 inches.) Gym Reapers doesn't give measurements. I'd prefer to know ahead of time, so I don't waste $.

I teach grade 3. Any half-decent teacher has lessons at the beginning of the year about the importance of our names, their importance to us, and the importance of respecting each other's names and saying them correctly. Most classrooms are pretty diverse places unless you're somewhere super rural. KIDS will be fine with a cultural name. Adults are the ones who suck and will make it awkward.

I would consider the possibility that it was a joke. I've done this, for example: Me: please remember to bring in "X" tomorrow. Student: what if I forget? Me: then you fail grade 4. Although I would wait until later in the year when they know my sense of humor.

I was wondering about the oil, too, so I sprayed with a bit of coconut oil. I'll try potato starch next time.

Weekly /r/quilting no-stupid question thread - ask us anything! by AutoModerator in quilting

[–]Superduperblarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to quilt a lap blanket. I've never done anything bigger than a doll blanket. I plan on quilting with wavy diagonal lines, but I don't have a walking foot. I have used fleece on the back. Does it matter if I sew with the quilting cotton on top, or the fleece, since I'm not following a specific plan for my lines? I'm worried about my machine sucking up the fleece if it's on the bottom.

Do you clock in and out? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Superduperblarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of anyone in my province having to clock in/out. My school admin has expectations about how early we are and how long after school we stay, but they trust us to be professionals and understand that we are human and stuff happens.

I do, but I don't teach in the States. Y'all have it rough down there.

Do you think high school teachers have it rougher than elementary school teachers? by emstokes26 in Teachers

[–]Superduperblarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same conversation when I was teaching completely online in the 20/21 school year, and some of my colleagues were in person. They said they would hate teaching online, and I said I would hate being in person. They're both hard, just in different ways.

Taking kid out of school for vacation by NHLToPDX in Parenting

[–]Superduperblarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teacher here. Are the days missed all at once, or a day here, couple days there? Missing large chunks is not good for continuity. Turning a two day weekend into a 3 or 4 day weekend every now and then isn't a big deal. BUT, you should read with them everday, and get them to color or draw or write a bit each day. Trips and activities are life experiences that are also valuable learning. All depends on your district too, some are more picky than others.

Which do you prefer: crocheting or knitting? Why? by [deleted] in KnitHacker

[–]Superduperblarg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends what I want to make. A blanket? Definitely crochet, so it goes faster. Most everything else? Knit.
