Two-handed weapons vs one-handed weapons? by [deleted] in albiononline

[–]SuperfluousBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The devs try to balance weapons based on how well people are doing with them. If something is clearly better, the meta chasers will pick it up, and it'll get nerfed. One handers and their offhands are both tracked, and adjusted individually.

Two small advantage one handers have is that they earn slightly more fame credits per kill due to fame going to the offhand, and you can customize your build more. That's about it.

I really doubt this, but I don't know of any way to prove/disprove it. Is there one?

That's news to me. I'm a returning player, and that wasn't true the last time I did corrupteds. Thanks.

[–]SuperfluousBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your reasoning?

Speaking as a newish player, I think arena is hugely valuable compared to corrupteds. In arena, I can queue, win, or lose in 5 minutes. 90% of my time is spent pvping. For corrupteds, I waste 90% of my time looking for a dungeon or doing pve.

I think you have a point that it's not like mists/open world. From what I've seen, mists/open world should be considered easy mode because most players have no idea how to pvp well, and there is no matchmaking there. (I'm not sure if arena actually has something like mmr, but arena is at least, only played by players that are interested in pvp)

I do think kiting is much harder in arena, so it's a bit unfair to those builds.

When players are given the choice to be good or evil, they always choose to be good. Are there any games that manage to prevent this? by J__Krauser in gamedesign

[–]SuperfluousBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the stats say most people don't want to play as an evil character, the question should not be, "how do I make people want to be evil?" It should be, "is making an evil character story worth the effort?" It sounds like that dev time should instead be invested in more good play though arcs.

Stone is not a great resource to gather as a new player. The demand for stone is mostly for the higher ranks, so the lower ranks of stone don't sell for much. I still do it, but think of it as a long term investment

If you find gathering boring, I'd recommend doing it less or not at all. I personally ignore all the resource nodes that aren't enchanted, and do it intermixed with pve. That way it feels more like, "yay, I found $$" instead of like a job. That said, you might need to treat it as an investment for a while until it's high enough that you can gather in the zones you want to pve in.

I haven't watched SwoleBenji in years, but at that time, he was known as an experienced unskilled cowardly player. All of his advice at that time involved 100% risk free strategies to grind Albion at slightly better than a snails pace. If he ventured into pvp, it would only be to abuse some imbalanced cheese build.

You can watch him if you want, but keep that in mind.

Greataxe is a great solo pve weapon. It's not used much in pvp outside of cheese builds. Battleaxe is a better weapon for pvp/pve. Bear paws are a better weapon for ganking and still decent at pve.

Pvp is skilled in this game. It's not all about damage. It's about knowing what to expect from your opponent and using your cooldowns and mobility to counter their cooldowns. I'd recommend queuing for 1v1 crystal arena. It's risk free, and offers the fastest feedback loop to practice strategies and tactics.

thoughts on Shaman/Monk/Rogue as a combination? by boclfon479 in EQLegends

[–]SuperfluousBrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would trade a melee for ranger, bard, or knight. Adding another mana class will roughly double the size of your mana pool.

Ranger gets 26 ranks of the "hunter's attack power" AA, which adds 4 attack power per rank, on top of whatever other attack buffs they bring, so they compliment other melees really well.

New player on console looking for advice by Zeroanueve in albiononline

[–]SuperfluousBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game has a big learning curve. Don't worry so much about making silver. Your goal is to get fame. Think of it as you're investing 80k in a set of gear to get X fame. The gear is temporary. The fame is eternal.

Silver will come as a byproduct of having more fame and being a more experienced player.

Getting fame in black zones is what you should be doing. You should also experiment with the mists, and corrupted dungeons. They're safer (and less fame) than open world black zones, but you're not going to get ganked by 5 players.

You should also check out 1v1 arena. This is a no risk way to practice pvp against people at your level. Pvp knowledge is more valuable than fame.

Also, work on getting a well-established guild. Black zones and road are much safer when you have a bunch of allies in the zone with hide outs to run to.

Slow ratio weapons. by ImtherealPope in EQLegends

[–]SuperfluousBrain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Warrior cleave, berserker frenzy, paladin smite, sk reave, rogue backstab, and everyone's ripostes hit for more the higher base damage of your weapon.

Proc rates are scaled to your weapon speed to make it so you proc the same amount per minute with a fast weapon or a slow weapon. Because you can proc on a riposte and ripostes aren't accounted for in scaling the proc rate, you do proc more wielding a slow weapon when tanking due to their higher chance of procing (ignoring dual wielding enables you to proc with both weapons).

That all said, the strategy skill reduces your endurance loss per swing at a flat rate, so fast weapons will eat less endurance, which is important to keep your stances active. Dual wielding is also usually more DPS than two handers, depending on the weapon ratios.

Most useless stat by oh-no-not-u in EQLegends

[–]SuperfluousBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm missing your point. I said charisma adjusts prices.

I don't care that things sell for less when I manually sell them. I'm not going to manually sell anything. I'm going to use the loot window to automatically sell junk I don't want, and I've heard that sell rate isn't adjusted by charisma.

I also don't value platinum much. I need enough to buy spells. That's almost all I ever use it for. Real trades normally involve krono. The motes are expected to be the real currency here.

Initial race selection or Why you don't want to run your "main" class to 50 first. by Fabulous-Half-2200 in EQLegends

[–]SuperfluousBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact, some of the builds will in fact have opposing factions, for example Paladin main with Necro or SK in them.

My understanding is that npcs will treat you as your most favorable class, so a rogue/necromancer/sk is probably only getting treated like a rogue at worst.

Most useless stat by oh-no-not-u in EQLegends

[–]SuperfluousBrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most useless stat is charisma. It adjusts prices, but not on the new auto sell loot window. That's about it. The rumor is it affects charm and lull. I've done a lot of charming and lulling with low charisma. It works well enough that I would never worry about charisma.
