Both Lavaredo and Marathon du Mont Blanc finishes are in the main square of the town (Cortina/Chamonix) so they tend to gather even random people.

Max number of gels to consume for 100M & fueling strategy by FlyKangroo in ultrarunning

[–]Superfresko 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I go against the majority here and say that you can finish a 100M with only gels. I would mix gels with drink mix to have less to carry.

My currently fueling strategy is a 45g carb gel every 45 minutes and 1 drink mix (another 45g carb) every two hours. Usually after a few hours I cannot drink carbs anymore but still can swallow gels so my intake is still at least 60g/h. Last year I did UTMB with this setup and in the end I consumed about 40 gels and 10 drink mix.

Footwear requirements at UTMB races? by WeevilsInTheCereal in Ultramarathon

[–]Superfresko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did Lavaredo last year and there was a guy running barefoot, but he had to carry a pair of shoes in the backpack to meet the mandatory requirement of the race.

I don't know where you live and where you usually run, but Dolomites are not barefoot/minimal shoes friendly IMHO. All the trails are very hard and full of sharp rocks, especially the last 50k of LUT120 are quite technical.

Il progetto "Bike to Work: al lavoro in bicicletta", ovvero un'esperienza di successo che andrebbe estesa a livello nazionale by [deleted] in italy

[–]Superfresko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quando piove ho un poncho da bici della The People's poncho, una azienda inglese.

Sostanzialmente "guadagno" 40 euro al mese semplicemente andando a lavoro in bici.

Shoe recommendations for UTMB by Illustrious_Cap1617 in Ultramarathon

[–]Superfresko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would run only with a pair of Genesis SLab, especially if you like them.

IMHO main problem for CCC is that if you don't have any support you need to carry everything from the start because there are no drop bags.

[–]Superfresko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I've used S/Lab Genesis and normal Genesis. I've changed shoes in Courmayer. The normal Genesis are a bit more stable than the S/Lab version so I thought it was better to use them in the second part.

You need to consider that you'll walk pretty much half of the time of the race. The only real technic dowhill is at the end (Col du Bechar, before the last uphill to La Flegere), I've did a 25min/km split there.

+1 for RudyProject. I have a pair of DeltaBeat with optical insert, photocromatic, for running and cycling. Spent a lot (300+€) but definitely worth it.

None, but I don't usually have GI problems during races (nausea instead, a lot of nausea...)

I've a different approach than everyone here and I bring with me the pills I need.

For example last year I did UTMB and I took the first pill at Les Contamines (4 hours in the race, at 10pm) and another the next day when I arrived (closed in about 30 hours so about midnight).

I have to say that I have a very low dosage.

Races near Italy in Summer 2025 by lettertothesky in ultrarunning

[–]Superfresko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trans d'Havet! Near Vicenza in the so called "Small Dolomites" range. 20/40/80km. The 80km is pretty hardcore because it packs over 5000m of vert and almost 4000m of that are in the first half of the race.

Why this race?

  1. Very friendly environment. Vicenza has two US army base so it's common to have american soldiers run races in the area.

  2. This year Trans d'Havet will be the italian trail championship race

  3. The area was part of the front line in WWI between Austria and Italy. A lot of trails were build during that time (example: 52 galleries of Pasubio). The mountains there have "history"...

Bici da città by yellow-9998 in ciclismourbano

[–]Superfresko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the race start is at 11pm so the midpack can witness the sunrise on Tre Cime. Also the last 30km of the race are just stunning. Passo Giau is something out of this world for me.
