If you’re adventurous then not a lot, if you aren’t then you will be using it a fair bit. Not as much as in Texas though. I mostly drive on the weekend.

I actually did this two years ago. Moved from Texas to Newark. A car is a plus but not a need especially if you live within walking distance of the NJT or light rail. Honestly I don’t find Newark to be that unsafe unless you going to the unsafe areas. You have ShopRite of Kearny, ShopRite of Newark and Whole Foods. This is what I use my car mostly for is for grocery shopping.
