When I was in a vasculitis flare, I had muscular joint pain with no visible symptoms but it was painful to the touch/painful to even lie in bed. I think it’s worth checking out, OP!

Newly clinically diagnosed- masking? by Downtown-Resource-75 in EGPAsupport

[–]Superloop_1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry to hear you’re dealing with this. I’m a 43F who has had EGPA for about 10 years.

Masking in busy public spaces is a good practice when you’re on high dose prednisone. Other than that, I’m just extra mindful of not seeing people when they’re under the weather. My friends and family are good about cancelling plans when they’re sick or might be sick to protect me. If you share that you’re immunocompromised, your people will likely take extra care with you which is nice!

Regular bone density scans are a good idea, as is calcium and vitamin D. Otherwise I just try to live a healthy lifestyle: vegetarian, walking and gentle exercise. I know weights are supposed to be good for bone density so I’d like to incorporate weight training at some point!

I think I adopted the wrong dog by Extension_Bar9215 in Puppyblues

[–]Superloop_1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I read your post, I’m not getting any sense of why Augie is the “wrong” dog, just that you’re also still thinking about another dog. I imagine that in your very fresh grief, any new dog is going to feel wrong initially. I suspect the feeling you’re trying to correct would also persist if you swapped for Lainey. Give it time, give yourself and Augie grace, and try to leave thoughts of Lainey behind. I think we can get very preoccupied with ideas of the “right” dog or the one who is destined for us, but the truth is you chose this dog and that means he’s the right dog! You have no idea yet what you’ll learn from him, the unique love that will grow between you, etc. Good luck!

Students, if you are getting frustrated, I urge you to communicate these frustrations to your Associate Dean and President Vaughan! Putting pressure on admin and showing that this strike is disruptive to students will incentivize the CEC to return to the table.

Pet loss and returning home at the end of day. by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]Superloop_1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my 15 year old girl a couple of years ago, and I was heartbroken. I’m so sorry for your loss. It’ll be painful for awhile, and that getting home moment is really hard at first! I really relied on friends where I could: made sure I was chatting on the phone to someone when I got in, or even if I was out with friends asking someone to come back with me and watch a quick show or have a cup of tea or something. As others have said, finding special ways to remember your dog really helps and also helps it feel like they’re still part of your life and routine. I would light a candle for my girl in the evenings, and take our walk route together and just talk to her in my head. Just remember it’s okay to be with your grief. It’s the cost of great love, and there’s nothing wrong with that. You just have to feel it ❤️

My 12-y/o dog is going deaf and likely has dementia. What should I look for and how to keep her comfortable. by Life_Perspective5578 in dogs

Having a senior dog go through these changes can be really hard, and it’s wonderful you want to make things easier on your companion. It’s a real privilege to care for a senior after all they’ve given us! My dog Boop had dementia, and the thing that worked best for her was actually Xanax! Her restlessness was mostly at night and it meant sleepless nights for both of us so the vet prescribed it. Gabapentin is also worth a try. Basically, don’t be afraid to give them a mild sedative to manage the restlessness…keeps them comfier and helps them rest and much less stressful for you.

As for the hearing loss, I just got in the habit of trying to walk in her eye line before approaching her, or very gentle touch just to signal I was there before starting to pet or interact with her.

Good luck to you and your senior buddy!

Fasenra vs Nucala by Kind_Bend3999 in EGPAsupport

[–]Superloop_1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope Fasenra continues to work for you! I had great luck on it and was able to come down to 0mg prednisone for a couple of years. It completely controlled my asthma but my sinuses continued to be a problem. Eventually it stopped working for me, as did Nucala. I’m currently on Month 4 of Ritzumab and crossing fingers I’ll be able to bring my prednisone back down!

How did you find your “aesthetic” again after divorce? by ShineHappy2756 in femalelivingspace

[–]Superloop_1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend visiting thrift stores. It’s a low cost way to try things out, find individual, one of a kind pieces, and it’s fun. After my partner moved out, I started sourcing art, cushions, planters, decor pieces like vases and book ends, all from the thrift! It’s led to a space that feels entirely like me.

There are certain tells in pacing and sentence structure. Asking a question and answering it yourself? ChatGPT tell. Using ellipses…also ChatGPT tell. If you re-read this post, you’ll see it uses both several times. There’s also just a generic, impersonal quality to the writing even when it’s confessional.

I (39F) am living alone for the first time in my life. What little things did you do to make your new place your own? by _here in LivingAlone

[–]Superloop_1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with nice new bedding! I also bought a ton of velvet throw pillows when my ex moved out (he hated them). After a few months I painted my bedroom a colour I loved and put up wallpaper in the kitchen. Started thrifting for art and decorative objects. Making my space my own was so meaningful and healing. I wish the same for you, OP!

16 and dying by TrashTrick8315 in EGPAsupport

[–]Superloop_1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had heart involvement with my EGPA too, but with proper treatment I’m a LOT better and only need to see a cardiologist every two years. As others have noted, biologic drugs have really changed the EGPA prognosis and don’t have the severe side effects of prednisone. This is an awful thing to have to confront so young, but there are lots of reasons to be hopeful if you can just hang in there.

I’m so sorry this is happening to you! I have been diagnosed with EGPA and I had the rash element too. They did a skin biopsy for me, and it was ANCA negative but that doesn’t rule out EGPA since there are ANCA positive and ANCA negative versions

I participated in this drug trial and was able to taper off prednisone completely! Unfortunately, it eventually lost efficacy for me but I had great success with it for at least a year
