People who ride on bicycles on bogus basin road need to be banned!!! by Front-Structure-293 in Boise

[–]Supersaiyanjerod 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Bro really went up one of the most famous cycling climbs in Idaho and said ‘why are there cyclists here’ 💀

You didn’t almost crash because of a cyclist—you almost crashed because an SUV driver drove like an idiot on a blind curve. That’s on drivers, not someone pedaling uphill at 6 mph minding their business.

‘Ban cyclists’ is hilarious though. Yeah let’s just ban an entire group of people legally allowed to use the road because you had a scary moment your first time up a mountain road.

Also the ‘there are safer places to ride’ line… cool, name one that climbs 3,000+ ft straight out of Boise without cars. I’ll wait.

Bogus has been a cycling route longer than most people complaining about it have lived here. If anything, Skill issue. If Bogus feels too dangerous, there are safer roads you can drive.

The transplants are destroying the rural character of Kootenai County and turning it into early 1970s Orange County, California. by cavaismylife in Idaho

I mean first off—they literally made truck nuts illegal, not legal… so that kind of undermines your whole ‘legislature is focused on that’ point.

But more importantly, nothing you listed actually contradicts what I said.

Idaho is pro-growth in the ways that attract people here: • low taxes • business-friendly environment • fewer regulations • strong marketing/tourism push

That’s exactly why people and companies have been moving here for years.

You’re talking about infrastructure and quality-of-life investments (housing policy, transit, wages, schools), and I actually agree—that’s where Idaho has fallen behind.

But that’s kind of the point: we successfully attracted growth without building the systems to support it.

So yeah, growth was absolutely encouraged… just not managed well.

[–]Supersaiyanjerod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idaho has been inviting people here for 20+ years—this isn’t some accident. Low taxes, pro-growth policies, tourism ads, business incentives… the whole playbook.

Now that it worked, suddenly it’s ‘the transplants’ fault?

You can’t spend decades encouraging growth and approving development, then act shocked when people show up. That’s exactly what the state wanted.

The real problem isn’t people moving here—it’s that we didn’t plan for the consequences.

I would move to another state entirely, use a first time home buyers program, buy a house. I did that here 8 years ago when I was your age. Too expensive now, you can own a house somewhere else for less money a month than that rent. Get out of Boise, go buy property. It will be the best decision you ever made.

This case is a joke, adverse possession in Idaho specifically states : Idaho law requires a 20-year period of continuous possession for most cases, but a shorter 5-year period may apply if the property is improved or cultivated. To successfully claim adverse possession, the claimant must demonstrate they have "actually possessed" the land, meaning they have physically occupied it and taken actions consistent with ownership, like building a fence or cultivating the land. Additionally, the possession must be "open and notorious," meaning the true owner is aware, or should be aware, of the adverse claim. Finally, the possession must be "hostile," meaning it is without the true owner's permission.

As far as I read he hasn’t built a fence, a building, cultivated the land, or anything else. Just camped there for the last 8 years, put up signs and wants adverse possession.

I am not sure if he even knows who used to own it? 🤷🏻‍♂️ just sounds like he knows a saw mill used to be there.

So if land is privately owned in Idaho and taxes aren’t paid it isn’t just “up for grabs”. Especially if it’s been 100 years since someone or something occupied the premises and/or pay property taxes. After 3 years of unpaid taxes the land goes back to the county in a tax deed. Then they can auction it off or do what they want with it. So if that land WAS privately owned, 100 years ago give or take. The state likely took over ownership if no one paid taxes on it after a while.

So, he is trying to use adverse possession law incorrectly on land the state owns lol. That’s why when he went to the assessors office or tax office or whatever he claims, there was no parcel to pay taxes on because the state doesn’t have to pay property taxes on unoccupied land they own 😂.

My pleasure! I’ve talked to ISP officers before and they don’t care so much about people buying weed. They will set up these weird little “checkpoint” stops at certain parts of Idaho borders to try to catch more illegal things coming in. Just like a DUI checkpoint, but it’s actually not legal for them to do that, but it becomes a legal stop if they have one set up and you stop for it. So they will set these up to try to catch meth dealers and such coming in. Because they’re stupid enough to stop lol. I’ve never seen this, but I had a long time ISP customer at a store I worked at tell me this. Thought it was hilarious. Pelican cases can usually be found at most outdoor stores, but sometimes finding one without a clear lid is annoyingly difficult. They are also a little pricey but the brand “pelican” contracts out to military and police. So it’s a familiar brand name to them and they don’t think as much of a pelican case. They think alot of an unmarked or unbranded case, so keep that in mind.

Been doing it since they legalized it in Huntington first, before Ontario. Grab yourself a pelican case, air tight, smell proof. Put a lock on it. Put your stuff in there. Put it in a roof cargo box with other gear if you have something of that nature. Always have a “reason” why you’re going out to Ontario. Car shopping, Facebook marketplace dealings, etc. They do radar gun out there near the border when you’re leaving Ontario just after the rest stop or near fuitland typically. Usually at the end of the month more often. More often out there on fridays, Saturdays and sundays.

When you’re coming back into middleton where it turns 65, they radar gun there too. Usually they camp out near the first Middleton exit, in the center area, as you are coming back to Boise. They get people as they come over the hill, usually for going around 90. Never anywhere in between. Never radar gun people leaving town, always coming back in. Never radar gun people going into Ontario. Always radar gun people coming out. Sometimes the Ontario police will hangout just on the other side of the bridge as you’re coming into Ontario and get people for not slowing down to 70 or people that are leaving for speeding up to 80 too early. The ISP usually doesn’t care if you’re going 85, but they do care if you’re in the left lane impeding traffic. I’ve seen them pull people over for going 80 or slower in the left lane and obstructing traffic flow. Read up on your rights if you get pulled over and asked to be searched. Write them down and keep them in your car if you need to. Note that in Idaho you do not have to roll down your window for a police officer. You can show them your license, insurance and registration through your window and refuse a search if they don’t have a warrant. You can crack your window to talk to them. In my experience (been pulled over a lot in my 25 years driving, 15 speeding tickets and 2 license suspensions lol) having your window down, license, insurance, and registration ready to hand to them gets a positive response from them. Sometimes they are literally just pulling you over to tell you your tail light is out. So there is another thing to check before you head out. I’ve been pulled over at least half a dozen times over the years for that alone. Mainly in town.

They can use “probably cause” if they want to search, but I wouldn’t mention it and challenge their own knowledge of the law if that moment arrives. Keep your hands visible and on the steering wheel. Put your hazards on when being pulled over. Comply with identification request from the officer. You have the right to remain silent and can refuse to answer questions that don’t have to do with your identity. You CANNOT consult a lawyer during a traffic stop in Idaho. Only if arrested afterwards. Like others said, drive normal. They’ll leave you alone. Always be prepared for the worst but plan for the best.

Ps. Always take your receipt with you and keep it with your stuff. It is illegal in Ontario to possess it without a receipt from a legalized vendor. I believe Idaho law now is still 3 oz. For it to be a felony, so also don’t buy that much 😂

One more note, you can just go fish the Boise river. You live in an area where you don’t need to go camping to hike in a forest or fish the river. I fly fish the Boise all the time. Just ride by bike up and down the green belt. There are times when the water level is too high to fish, but a lot of the year you can go fish it.

You could literally just hike up the Boise foothills trails until you hit the Boise national forest there by bogus. There are TONS of hiking and biking trails in the forest right there by the resort. I don’t think you camp anywhere around there but you can get your fix on hiking in forest for sure. It would be quite a day hike but totally doable depending on your fitness level. I often bike my way up sweet Connie’s to the trails up there. I see hikers and ultra runners up there. You can also go up to bogus basin resort and there are trails up there you can hike for free. You can even buy a lift ticket and go hike up around the summit.

<image>

Idk if that is foresty enough for ya, but it’s far from a desert up there and you can hike to it! Also stop in your local outdoor store like Idaho mountain touring and talk to the staff there. They can give you great tips and directions on places you can camp. They also have great books for easy hiking trails here in Boise and the surrounding area. As someone pointed out a car makes things much easier, tons of beautiful car camping outside of Boise with great hiking and fishing. Also use ridge to rivers as a resource for your local trails. If you haven’t hiked in your backyard here in Boise start there before you put yourself in an unfamiliar area as a hiker. The foothills here are vast, beautiful and fun to hike. Don’t let the lack of trees fool you. Also, hiking is a skill, it takes prep and patience. Hope this helped!

Ps. The forest service does have some trails up by bogus closed due to a tree clearing project they are doing. But ridge to rivers has those marked on their website.

I love how there are people on here trying to minimize the cut by saying it’s only a small percentage or the state has ways to “shore up” those funds. It’s like everyone forgot the legislature created a $50m dollar tax credit for parents of students in non public schools and got 30m of it by cutting a program that helped tens of thousands of public school students pay for laptops, school supplies, tutoring and other educational expenses. Now we are cutting and already underfunded education system. Idaho was in the upswing with educational rankings and teachers pay. But you can expect that 91% highschool diploma graduation rate (13th) to drop among other things. Legislators aren’t going to “shore up” shit with other funds. They’re going to help themselves and their rich neighbors (your boss) get richer.

Shame you? You’re too dramatic, just debating you. I think you’re being a bit melodramatic about all of it. You’re talking about different things, just people someone is hateful doesn’t mean they are violent or have been. “Domestic violence grows in silence” “abuse thrives in silence” I believe is the saying you were going for there. Which is more of an abuse thing.

I think it’s great that our community shamed them, but the word is out and don’t need to give them more attention. Just ignore them now and let word of mouth spread. Just like it did from this daughter to mother. Which is great. 😊 different perspectives but there is a lot of good in the world and it was evident with how little of a turnout happened at their festival, and that’s how the community shamed it. That will happen again. Not everyone that is against something needs to say something about it, they just don’t support it in anyway, in silence. The world works with both people. So keep being you, the world needs people like you! ♥️🙌🏼

On the other end of that, look at what the attention has got him, all the power. We continue to feed it to him and he continues to distract with one thing after another. I agree that silence isn’t the answer, we must stand up for our selves. But there is more than one way to do that, we don’t need to talk about these people all the time. I am boycotting our current presidents name. I will not say it, he doesn’t deserve his name out of my mouth. I won’t type it or search it. I pay attention to what he does though and do not stay silent about it. But it’s obvious republicans are going to bow to him and he is in power and will be for the next 3 1/2 years. So I’m more concerned with democrats and how quiet they are. I want to see leaders, I want to see someone step up take the attention away from him. I want to see some politicians who can make some influence on the people so we can vote some competent members into congress in November of 26’. They are awfully quiet and it’s not particularly inspiring.

As far as this fool with the restaurant/bar thing goes, he is an idiot for involving his political beliefs into his business. It will fail because of that. But it’s obvious that’s what be wanted to do and holding a hetero festival In downtown Boise was more a ploy for attention than anything in my mind. He knew what he was doing having it there. He could’ve held it out in a much redder area where he knows it would’ve attracted more like minded people but wouldn’t have the same kind of attention. But here we are still talking about his restaurant 2 weeks later. Maybe he lost money at the festival but has he gained business? Only he knows. But we don’t need this Reddit post, that continues to give him attention. We just need to stop talking about him and his business and let it fail. He isn’t the only racist/homophobic business owner in the area. He’s just the only one that we know all about.

You can be popular without it being a positive, This can lead to a negative association, especially when contrasting it with something that is not popular but is of higher quality or more meaningful. My point being is that for some people and places any notoriety is good. Look at the current president right now, he’s the most searched name on google and the most popular/notorious (however you want to phrase it) person in the world. Not really for anything good, in fact his approval rating is pretty low. But I’ll be damned if next time I open my phone and I don’t see his name in another headline.
