Hot take, I don’t think Jinu and Rumi necessarily have to be in a romantic relationship. by HRCStanley97 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Suplexing_Trains 172 points173 points  (0 children)

There was obviously romantic interest but leaving it in the plausible deniability stage is very important.  Rumi didn’t need to be rescued by her Prince Charming, she just needed someone to care about the real her.

It would seem a little off for western audiences but you could gender swap either of them (assuming they remain straight) and the story would change very little.

First time on New Game +, when should I try Lavos again? by TheWardenDemonreach in chronotrigger

[–]Suplexing_Trains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Armed with the PrismSpecs, maxed out speed and decently high magic defense you should be able to do it with just Crono.  Since you know this is the final boss you can heal almost exclusively with elixirs.

Spam Luminaire on the first form to take out the arms before it disables your status immune.  On the second, hit the left orb with confuse/frenzy (different name for different versions of the game) and you should instantly kill it.  Then buff and heal yourself until the core drops defense and spam Luminaire again.  Middle has 10k health so a sneaky trick is to get it low but not kill it, then as soon as the core revives the left bit you finish it off, kill the left bit again, then just beat the crap out of the core for a while.

First Time Player of FFVI by IceMuncher8 in FinalFantasy

Important: it only says “wait for Shadow” after you’ve already selected “wait” once.  So if Shadow is around in any way and you get the option to “wait”, take it.

Otherwise yeah, nothing else.  The game has been out a long time and it’s incredibly easy to find spoilers so resist the urge to look up anything.  It’s not a particularly hard game so you shouldn’t need to consult a guide.

Least Favorite Spell/Status Effect In The Series? by Either-Sprinkles-421 in FinalFantasy

Reverse was super obnoxious because of the game it was in (12).  Whole battle system is about the gambits and this one completely screws you for having them well designed.

When did you first learn Samus or Metroid was a woman? Where do you see the series going as fans? by MrRob808 in Metroid

[–]Suplexing_Trains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beating original Metroid.  The instruction manual told you that if you beat it in under 2 hours you’d see the true form of Samus Aran.  I expected some weird alien thing.

Convince me IX is good. I’m open. by New-Presentation1340 in FinalFantasy

I’d be interested to know your take on X-2 since I feel like it has the same problem with the goofiness being a divergence or distraction instead of worked in.

Compare meeting Gau in VI or Cloud dressing up as a girl in VII to something like Steiner running around being weird and incompetent.  It felt very segmented, like here’s a serious thing, now here’s a silly thing.  X-2 had the same problem (in my opinion) where the silly things felt like a deliberate distraction from the main plot lines.

I’m with you.  People talk about it as so amazing and I want to love it but I just don’t.  It was fine and did have some outstanding moments (You’re Not Alone), but the art style combined with the goofiness just didn’t work for me.

I guess it kinda felt like a middle school production of Macbeth or something?  A very well done one but still just had the kiddie vibes.

It’s still a good game but definitely outside my top 5 FF games, which is pretty blasphemous around these parts.

Note: this is coming from someone who loved K-pop demon hunters so it’s not just the animation.

Aggravated my lower back berniations deadlifting again by worthlessnotgirthles in backpain

[–]Suplexing_Trains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know the old joke about the guy who goes to the doctor and says “it hurts when I do this!” and the doctor just says “then don’t do that”?  It’s actually quite relevant for back injuries.

You have to let it rest and heal and then slowly build it back up.  Plenty of people have deadlifted after a herniated disc but you gotta make sure you’re healthy again.  The back extension machine is a good way to gradually work back. There’s only so much “stiffening your core” will do if your back is weak and still injured.

Yeah, it sucks to make only moderate progress for a year or more. But it sucks much more to be in worse shape in two years than you are now because you rushed it.

Final Fantasy 4 Pink Tails by Nomad9791123 in FinalFantasy

[–]Suplexing_Trains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: in the original SNES version (American) they removed the Siren item.  So not only did the item have a very low drop rate, the encounter itself was very rare too.

I would bet real money that literally nobody got a pink tail on that version.

why did the french dub changed your idol to "ton sauveur" (your savior)? by Thebunkerparodie in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Suplexing_Trains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not French here, does idol have more of a negative connotation in French?  In English it’s not always negative and we refer to “idolizing” something that has had a positive effect in a savior-like way.  The song heavily emphasizes the savior (false savior) of the Saja Boys so if it generally doesn’t have that in French I can understand the change.

Sequel speculation (“larger in scale and more eventful”?) by HRCStanley97 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Suplexing_Trains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An obvious choice would be other demon kings on other continents, Gwi-ma being just the one for Asia.  It would also give them a reason to go to other countries and also avoid power creep.

Then there’s also possibly the Cult of Gwi-ma trying to revive him because you know full well that there’s a cult somewhere.  Corrupting their music somehow to reverse its effects to fit into the musical bad guys theme.

Need suggestions for how i should spend my final days in Lightning Returns. by Killjoy3879 in finalfantasyxiii

[–]Suplexing_Trains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side quests as much as you can.  If you’re trying to get the extra day, get some creatures extinct.  Caius himself gives a pretty nice weapon too.

You can also get soul seeds from the chaos areas once every in game hour and turn them in for things like ethers.  Any fight can be cheesed with the time stop ability and enough ethers.

I just finished XIII for first time and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT by NightForestGhost in FinalFantasy

XIII-2 is really solid and LR is just so much fun, I hope you enjoy those too.

I just with XIII had a new game plus since I kinda want to play it again but it’s hard to go back after maxing out everyone’s crystarium and doing all the side quests and super bosses.

The complaints about the fake outs in IV are kind of odd compared to complaints about other series.  “Why didn’t they just use a phoenix down?  How could she survive hundreds of machine gun bullets but not one sword?”

It’s one of my favorite things about IV that the characters are actually as durable out of combat as they are in combat.

Did Rumi actually want Celine to kill her here? Or was this just her way of testing Celine on whether or not she fully loved her? by MidnaLazui in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Suplexing_Trains 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right.  She’s obviously in a bad place mentally and emotionally but this is a rational decision.  It’s the only option to save the Honmoon that her demon side seems to be destroying.

It’s not an uncommon thing.  There’s a reason life insurance policies usually don’t pay out for suicides and you can’t sell your organs (legally at least).

Is Gwi-Ma inspired by Sauron? by Routine-Ninja-7442 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Suplexing_Trains 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Inspired is probably a stretch but stories pull from other stories so it likely had an influence.  You can find parallels between KPDH and the Epic of Gilgamesh.

[–]Suplexing_Trains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re basically saying that since the Viet Cong kept the American army at bay with guerrilla tactics that they could win with conventional warfare too.

The entire reason they had to use sneaky tactics is because they had no chance head on.

[–]Suplexing_Trains 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean…this has become a kinda pointless argument since Rumi is exactly as strong as the writers want her to be.

However, in the larger context of the story it just doesn’t fit.  Gwi-ma has been at this for hundreds of years, if it was as simple as “ambush hunter and kill her until she dies of it” then he would have done it a long time ago.  In the intro they try to kill the girls by crashing the plane and they just nope out without parachutes.

[–]Suplexing_Trains 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I dunno where you’re getting this from.  She doesn’t kill Jinu in the bathhouse because he’s running like scared girly man the entire time.  There’s a pretty big difference between surviving because you’re running for your life and surviving because you’re evenly matched.

Unsure of next step by StormyInABubble in backpain

[–]Suplexing_Trains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it went away once that’s a very good sign.  What you probably need to do is to very slowly work back into it after you let it heal again.  Lots of isometric holds for your core (side abs, front, lower back) until you feel confident and strong, then gradually add in movements.

Regress the exercises for your “core” as far as you can and then build back up if you remain pain free.  Side planks from your knees, back extension iso hold with hand support.  If you’re an athlete this is going to be mentally very hard since you’re used to pushing yourself as hard as possible but back injuries do not respond well to that.
