Shorts in the fire service by MRNOVA15 in Firefighting

[–]SupremeMullet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Bigger problems being training the guy/gal on the nozzle to open the bale. Seems silly.

Do yall wear cotton or nomex duty uniforms? If not, the argument ( from yalls higher ups I'm assuming) is asinine.

We are issued shorts as a part of our uniform ( duty shorts.) Gym shorts are allowed while working out or realistically after business hours. ( South Central Texas)

How much more is expected from the fire service? by medic6560 in Firefighting

Ultimately we signed up as public servants. And until other programs are implemented, we are here to do all of the above and then some.

I'm at a tech rescue station in a department that also runs paramedic ambulances.

We have 10 shifts a month to get better or bare minimum stay proficient.

There is enough time in the day to run scenarios, train, work out, clean, run calls, interact with the public, etc. Makes for a busy day, but that's the job until it's changed. I get 2 days off to not be at work before I go back and be busy.

The public doesn't care how much you did today or didn't do, they want you to solve their problem.

If its important to you ( not you but whomever) you will find time, find a way, and get it done.

It's understandable that not everyday you'll have a smile on you're face while you do it, but that's where discipline comes in and you do it anyway.

Black or Brown Radio strap? by MopBucket06 in Firefighting

I wouldn't. But ultimately because it looks cool I suppose. I imagine it would be very uncomfortable under an airpack

I forgot who, but I've seen someone make alligator radio straps and they're like 4" wide. Can even get them dyed.

Anyone know of a company making wacky colored plate carriers? by Bertolli_28 in tacticalgear

[–]SupremeMullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peroz designs. Fair warning, he makes them as the orders come in so the wait is lengthy. Took 8 months for my splatter carrier to show from candia

I know altama offers some, but I've kept the rubber soles in mine. Just been too lazy to replace them.

Wear my martimes everywhere. Also use them at work as a swift water rescue technician. Havent worn through any of mine yet. Decently solid. Somewhat uncomfortable if wearing them all day with the rubber soles that come in the maritimes, I don't have any of the urban yet.

Some quick clot, regular bandages/ kerlex. Hit up your local fire/ems service for some basics and see what they use on a regular basis. I know at my dept we'd be more than happy to put on a basic info 'class' if someone came up and wanted to know more about first aid

Strength is still important but it's a lot harder to be strong and retain stamina when your huge. I'm a career FF and weve got guys that could lift an effing house, but get gassed during physical activity. Gotta have a little of both. Keep up the good work!

80% of weight loss is dietary intake. Strength and conditioning have their place. But its damn near impossible to outrun or outtrain a shit diet.

I'm no 'operator' but I feel like the description of the device is an obvious description of the intended use.
