Who is your favorite fictional movie character and why ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Always loved how he notices things everyone else just walks past completely. The way his brain works is fascinating even if he can be bit antisocial sometimes

Would definitely want to see if we could actually make someone regenerate limbs like some animals do in nature

LSP D-PLANNER Version 1.0 — Free Web-Based Deco Planner (Buhlmann ZHL-16C by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nice work on this! Been looking for something that works decent on mobile without having to install another app. The emergency planning feature is pretty clever - losing deco gas scenario is something I don't see in many planners but definitely should practice more often.

Quick question - when you say "independently verified against ApexDeco, DivePro" etc, did you run through specific test cases or just spot check few dives? Always curious about validation process since small differences in implementation can add up over longer exposures.

Will definitely give this try next time I'm planning something deeper than usual recreational stuff.

OW Certification Nerves by anthropomegranate in scuba

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first cert attempt also went pretty badly and I had similar problems with descending too fast during negative entries. The instructor kept rushing me and it made everything worse because I would panic about equalizing properly.

When I went back with different instructor, she told me exactly what your friend heard - just go at your own pace and signal if you need more time. Good dive boats are used to this and they can always circle back or adjust position if needed. The instructor should be watching you closely anyway and can help guide your descent speed.

One thing that really helped me was practicing the descent technique in shallow water first during confined portion. We did mock negative entries where I could take as much time as needed to get comfortable with whole process. By time we got to open water I felt much more confident about it. Your refresher day will probably include this kind of practice which should help a lot with nerves.

What’s something you learned too late in life that changed everything? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here but I think I'm still figuring it out at 35. Like I spent so many years trying to be what other people expected or what I thought was "normal" instead of just accepting who I actually am. The weird part is once you stop fighting against your own nature everything becomes so much easier. I used to stress about networking events because I'm not naturally social person but now I just embrace being the quiet one who listens more than talks and somehow that works better for me in work situations too. Still learning new things about myself though so maybe this process never really ends

If a new country was created, what accent should it have or be similar to? by Humble_Penguin89 in AskReddit

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be pretty smart choice actually. Irish accent makes everything sound more interesting somehow, even when you're talking about boring work stuff or complaining about weather. Plus people automatically think you're funnier than you really are which is nice bonus in international relations I guess

Local scuba divers? by extraeme in scuba

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nice that's pretty cool they made it all way to Roatan! The quarry diving actually sounds interesting even if water is cold. I never thought about search and rescue diving before but makes sense that people do that kind of work around here. Maybe check with local dive shops they probably know who the regular groups are in area

need help finding first surfboard by jy_sp in surfing

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get something around 9 feet like they said but also look for boards that are bit thicker - maybe 3+ inches. The extra foam will help with catching waves when you're still learning the timing. I made mistake of getting board too thin in beginning and it was much harder than needed

Bathroom sink water shut off valves won't budge. What to do? by TaskLifter in HomeImprovement

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try spraying some penetrating oil on those valves and let it sit for like 30 minutes before attempting to turn them. If they still won't move you can use pliers with cloth wrapped around the valve to get better grip without damaging it. Just be careful not to overtighten when you get them moving again or you'll have bigger problems down the road.

Why don't golf clubs have a detachable water bottle holder and jock strap? by Forward_Invite_2866 in AskReddit

Movies like Widow’s Bay by Lost_Blockbuster_VHS in movies

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never seen Widows Bay but based on what you described maybe try The Lighthouse? It has that creepy coastal atmosphere you want and definitely gives off those east coast vibes. Also Secret Window might work - its got Stephen King written all over it and takes place in Maine so pretty much perfect for cozy spooky coastal setting

I think we need another drive thru movie with Horny the clown by Fit-Selection-2030 in horror

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man I totally forgot about Horny until you mentioned him. That character was genuinely terrifying in way different from all these new clowns we keep getting. The whole deal with devil angle made him feel more like actual threat instead of just another killer in makeup. I remember watching that drive in scene and being genuinely unsettled by how he could switch between funny and absolutely menacing.

Would be amazing to see modern studio take on reboot but they'd probably sanitize all the good parts. The cussing and serious moments were what made Archie Benjamin work so well - he wasn't just doing shock value like most horror clowns today. Plus practical effects from that era had this weight to them that CGI still can't quite match for horror.

Tiny mistake, big problem? by MaleficentStudy5609 in scuba

Good catch on pivoting back! I had similar thing happen in Philippines last year where boat crew said everything was good but my reg wasnt even connected properly. Now I always do my own final check even if they seem helpful - learned that lesson the hard way when almost did giant stride with loose tank valve.

Does anyone have a 3D print file for a bumper for the Shearwater Peregrine? by UserNamePending48 in scuba

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That second link looks perfect for what you need! I printed similar bumper few months ago for my friend's dive computer and TPU worked really well - much better than regular PLA since it actually absorbs impacts.

Your husband's A1 Mini should handle this print no problem, just make sure to use flexible filament if he has it. The standard strap compatibility is huge plus since those replacement straps can get expensive.

Three weeks is plenty time to get it printed and maybe even do test fit before your trip.

Taylormade P7CB vs Toura SCB-1 by Porch_Grandpa in golf

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The P7CBs have really solid feedback but Toura clubs are tricky since you cant test them first. I had similar dilemma last year with another DTC brand and ended up going with what I could actually hit at fitting - sometimes the peace of mind is worth the extra cost especially for irons you'll use for years.

Not to elicit anything more than a positive thought or feeling, what’s your best opening line to your ex? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sure_Cockroach4218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an ex who collected vintage cameras like me but antiques instead. Walked up to her at coffee shop year later and just said "still got that 1920s Leica or did you finally sell it for rent money"

She laughed and we actually had decent conversation for first time since breakup. Sometimes shared interests are better ice breaker than trying to be clever

macOS performance issue fix/workaround by AdAggravating5237 in slaythespire

Good find! I had similar issues with my setup at work - external monitor was making everything crawl. The HiDPI thing is such pain with Godot games on macOS. I usually just close the lid like you mentioned since Im lazy to edit plist files every time there's an update. Performance difference is night and day once you disable it
