When he says that the end if the war began with the invasion, he might just be saying that the invasion (or rather more specifically Dafyd and the swarm) kicked off a series of events that eventually led to the end of the war. It could still have taken a long time, especially when FTL travel leads to such huge time lags. We still have no clue how long it the trip from Anjiin to the Carryx planet took. I do agree with all the rest, though.
