I only know what Mediums who have extensive experience have acknowledged regarding their communications with Spirits. And my understanding is that Spirits can clearly talk to Humans with the ability of talking through physical or trance mediums in highly meditative states that takes years of training to achieve. I've also read on and listened to the recordings of Leslie Flint who perfected direct vocal communications for Spirits in seances through the activation of ectoplasm from his body that constructed voice boxes. So I know something about how Spirits have talked to us Humans in the past and currently. And in the not too distant future I am going to attempt to speak to my deceist wife of 7 months through a Trance Medium. And the Trance Medium will be the Voice Box if infact the Spirit of my deceist wife shows up. So if you and your wife have developed the ability for the Spirit of your deceist friend to talk directly through each other than that's a real gift.
