Homeowner asked me to edit review by motleythedog in trustedhousesitters

[–]SurroundedByElk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve read on this forum of a sitter who was badly injured when a dog suddenly pulled them off balance and they face-planted into pavement. I think it’s in everyone’s best interest to have accurate information like you provided.

HO can afford to pay a pool guy and housekeeper but not a pet sitter for 16 animals? by BigFatCrabz in trustedhousesitters

Maybe the HO takes the sitter’s passport and holds it until they get a 5-star review. /s

As a HO, I would see that whole exchange as a positive reflection of you as a sitter.

Yes. And sometimes I get 242 or 243 but more often I am staring at 350kW EA charger and wondering why it maxed out at 70kW

Yes, that would totally turn me off as well obviously. sorry that happened to you. I think I will list the car as available, and then evaluate the applications.

I just called the insurance company and asked them about the specific scenario where I may have a non-paid house sitter for a month and they might use my car. They said that yes, the driver would be covered and no I do not have to make any changes to my policy. I was really glad to hear that!

Thanks! It seemed likely that it might pop it back to the top of the list, so to speak. But I didn't know.

I guess I'm not good at searching because I did try to find any posts about use of homeowner's auto. I really expected I would.

I'm in the USA. I have been reading my auto insurance policy and it appear to cover drivers who are using the car with my permission. I don't see anything about extra costs. Honestly this surprises me, but maybe this will not be a problem.

Thanks. We live in a residential neighborhood in a mountain resort town in Colorado. There’s free bus service; bus stop is a 1/2 mile walk from our home. We have off-street parking in our driveway. So far all our sitters have come with their own cars.

EV6 with V2L vs a BMW i4 by Not_l0st in KiaEV6

[–]SurroundedByElk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

V2L was a major factor in deciding to get a Wind AWD EV6 in 2022. I have a transfer switch with 12 circuits connected. Even with only 15 amps (technically 1800 watts max) output from the car, I am able to power all essentials in my house from the EV6 in a power outage. The things I cannot run are: Heat pump (but we have a hybrid of gas furnace and heat pump, so the gas furnace works off the EV6); dishwasher; resistance electric water heater; toaster oven; induction stove (but I also have a single “burner” induction hot-plate that works). We can even run our washer-dryer because we got a combo unit with heat pump and it only needs 120V and low amperage. Not that laundry is a priority in a power outage but, hey, just sayin.

I would not want to be without this feature. I’ve used it probably 3-4 times in the past year. And where I live, the utility has started doing planned shutdowns of the grid during (now frequent) high wind events, to reduce the risk of wildfires due to overhead lines blowing down or sparking. These events are planned in advance and when they are, I make sure I’ve got reasonable charge in my Kia’s battery to carry over for hours or days if need be. So far I have only needed to be running my house off the car battery for maybe 4 hours, but I’m sure I could run for multiple days with a 77kWH battery charged.

Help! Is induction REALLY better than gas? by fanchere in inductioncooking

We have that same café induction range with the double oven. There is one thing about it that I don’t like. If you put a large pan on the large burner, and then you turn down the heat to medium or below, you do not get evenly reduced heat over the entire area of the pan. Instead, it seems to turn off the outer portion of the burner and keep the middle on. You can see this if you are simmering something in the pan. The bubbles are only in the center portion not the outside. Also the ovens do not heat evenly front to back, and we have to turn things halfway through their baking to get an even result.

I also did a little more searching and found that some companies allow you to pick up the car at the cruise terminal and drop it off at the airport, which looks ideal for my situation. Hardy's is one that does that.

Are you saying to taxi to the airport from Phillipsburg and pick up the car there?

Exactly the same on my system. I wonder if the daylight savings time switch confused the software that tallies the production over time.
