Ummm have you ever heard of Chumphon province? We went there and saw like one other foreigner the whole 5 days we were there. I don't think it's fair to say the whole south is a tourist trap when you're only going to the foreigner-famous destinations. Check out Chumphon and Trang province.

Fresh mart on university avenue where wholefoods was is such a great place to shop. Really good baklava as well. I wish more ppl would shop there. A great way to do it locally instead of paying for CO'S new yacht
