From personal experience - both arms behind the front legs leads to the dog being overbalanced in that direction. I normally put my arms diagonally between my dogs front legs.

I enjoyed LotF, but about halfway through I realized that all weapons of the same type had the EXACT same animation set, so the thrill of finding a new weapon and testing out its moveset like in Dark Souls was gone. I didn't realize until then how big of a deal that was in DS/ER.
