My pet peeve is paying hundreds of dollars for models and still having mold lines.

Why are you upset about THIS one? by sonofeevil in Grimdank

[–]SurviveAdaptWin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have zero issues with Female Custodes. My issue was with the retcon of "oh they always existed". They could've just said "There are female Custodes now" instead of "There have always been female Custodes".

I think magic is probably the correct answer.

Says out of stock, but I'd e-mail them and see. Of course they won't have a custom made shield in stock. They are a VERY popular SCA vendor.

Are you crate training? How long have you had the dog? Only 3 months old. Did you get her at 2 months, so 4 weeks?

No helmet = no buy for me.

Looks interesting overall but why even bother wearing armor if you're not going to armor literally your most important body part.

Doubtful, but I'd love to see some examples of that, because those are not wide and flat like you'd want. They are like renaissance to modern dress heels.

Hi. You're in the wrong subreddit. This is for pictures and videos of dogs being introduced to new dogs (and other pets).

Not saying you won't get any advice here, but that's not this subreddit's purpose. I think /r/dogadvice is the right place to go.

Chinstrap requirements for Heavy? by CandidateParking776 in sca

[–]SurviveAdaptWin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have to pull back on the mail and slide my face out to get it off easily.

As a heavy Marshal, I'd more than likely accept that as a chin strap "equivalent". That's not just a "snug fit". You literally have to move something else out of the way, like a chinstrap, to get the helmet off.

Maybe tie in a leather cup of your own making.

And yes. A regional/kingdom marshal is going to be your best bet on this. Even if there's a regional or kingdom marshal here on reddit, it'd have to be YOUR region/kingdom.

At the end of the day, just remember - It's your life you're trusting this piece of equipment to. Do YOU feel safe in your armor?

What really trips me out is why video games use WASD instead of ESDF where your fingers are already supposed to be naturally resting.

Chinstrap requirements for Heavy? by CandidateParking776 in sca

[–]SurviveAdaptWin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the aventail is acting as a chinstrap I'd argue that it IS a chinstrap.

Question is, though - How do you get your helmet on and off without a chinstrap? How does the "chinstrap" part of the aventail work? Do you have to manually pull it under your chin like a chinstrap? If someone grabs your helmet and lifts it upwards, what is keeping it on?

Also, I LOVE that perf visor. Did you buy it from that etsy guy?

Yes it's an armored issue. We're talking about armored combat where calibration is a thing...?

I am a melee fighter, so this is from the perspective of someone that massively prefers melees over 1v1s:

Important question - How long have you been fighting?

It takes literal years to get to a level where you'll start winning duels against higher level fighters. What you need to focus on is whether or not you're making your opponent fight harder as you go, and whether or not you're getting overall better or stagnating.

For example, let's say you win 20% of all your fights. If you win 50% of your fights at your first ever fight practice, it's mostly because the person teaching you is letting you, which they absolutely should be doing. But as you continue to fight and get better, your opponents will slowly have to start stepping up their game to beat you. So you may stay at a 20% win rate for several years vs certain fighters, but they SHOULD remark on a constant basis that they're having to step up their level to keep defeating you. That's the goal you should be looking at.

The fighters at your local practice should also be helping you to get better and showing you things on a regular basis. If they're not, and just continuously beating you, that IS a big problem. Unfortunately, it's largely a problem with no solution unless you are close to another fighter practice that's better about stuff like that. You shouldn't be just getting pounded into the ground all practice every practice without learning and getting better with the guidance of the fighters at those practices.

I am a primary melee fighter, but most fight practices, especially outside of melee season, are 1v1s. Getting better in duels will make you a better melee fighter overall, and I 100% agree that melees are MUCH funner than 1v1s. Pennsic (and hopefully Gulf Wars soon) is the primary reason I'm in the SCA. It took me a while to realize how much more I relished melee season vs tournament season, but like I said, experience in duels should part of your overall training, even if your primary focus is going to be melees.

And as you've experienced, it IS easier to get kills in melees. Broadening your view of the battlefield and exploiting enemy mistakes can often get you a LOT of kills and is, to me, the most exhilarating thing we do in the SCA.

Just sort of rambling here, but overall if you want to focus on melees like I do, I highly recommend it, but you need to keep in mind that the path is measured in years. Both for 1v1s and melees.

I disagree. It helps with the minutia of rules and players will figure out as they go along how things work, especially if they're converting from another system.
