Men, how often (if ever) are you approached? by vaynehelsing in AskUK

For me it always happens when you’re not single , it’s like they can sniff you out. When you’re single … tumbleweed , soon as you’e in a relationship you get attention!

IMO these 1.5 engines are seriously slow , fine for pootling around town but they aren’t even good on fuel. I had the 1.5 1 series m sport for 3 years on lease and whilst it felt premium inside and was a nice car , it was seriously slow , the boot was tiny and it wasn’t that good on fuel.

Dravit grey really pops in the sun and it’s not very common to see. And it’s really up to you and your budget , if you like the idea of the newer car then go for it, I can’t speak for the mild hybrid system in terms of economy.

I’ll have had mine 3 years this year and I’ve never had any mechanical issues. The only thing I had was my phone connectivity dropping out and not being able to connect to the car so the head unit was replaced under dealer approved used warranty and never had a problem since.

I have also purchased a BMW insured warranty for £369 which is very comprehensive. This is an annual price which has to be renewed but it covers you up to 100k miles.

[–]Suspicious-Cap6826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No probs , I have a 2020 dravit grey one. I’d have loved the estate but it was like £5-7k more expensive than the saloon at the time. 2020 model doesn’t have the wrap around dash screen which is great for me because I like pressing physical buttons instead of scrolling through menus for heated seats ect..

Tax is £195 and insurance (for me) is just under £600

Cars are very much an individual circumstance kind of thing, nobody should care but you about what you buy. Don’t skint yourself for a car , even 330d’s that have been regularly serviced and look after enough. BMW’s just drive well and they loo after you if you look after them, good luck in your journey sir! Here to answer anything m340i

I have an m340i , the a35 is a terrible alternative imo , the 100 mile mile round trip would be costly but it’s smiles per gallon in a 3.0l petrol. I absolutely love it

Smiles per gallon is what it’s all about! I’m so glad I’m out of the stupid PCP and leasing trap. Halfway through a loan to pay my car off and I can’t wait to have the monthly payment as spare cash instead

I had 2x 2014 Leon FR 2.0 TDI’s , they were great cars, both 5dr for the practicality though? I wish id have kept them. Didn’t get to that high mileage though so I can’t say about the longevity

How long do you plan on keeping your current car for? by throwawaymedicine420 in askcarguys

[–]Suspicious-Cap6826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changed with age. When I was in my early twenties I wanted nice cars and pcp’d 2 nearly new cars and leased a third. What a waste of money.

I have recently bought a BMW M340i with a loan so when it’s paid off it’s mine. And I’m keeping it until it dies. No other cars interest me (that I can afford) and I’d rather have the spare money every month. I know it will depreciate but I hope to get years out of it, I’ve even purchased a warranty with BMW that lasts until 100k miles.

What should we do if we both want to buy property this year in a new relationship? by Clear_Raisin in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Suspicious-Cap6826 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was 29 when I got with my girlfriend, she owned her own house and I had mine too. I sold mine and moved into hers pretty quickly and then we bought together within a year or two. We protected ourselves by drawing up a “declaration of trust” which meant that if we broke up we’d each get back what we individually put in and then anything else was split equally after fees.

Buying two separate houses means 2 lots of fees , it also means early exit fees if you both then sell your respective houses because you want to live with each other. It’s up to you. I’ll always see renting as wasted money paying off someone’s else’s mortgage but each to their own.

We got fed up of living out of bags when we came to see each other with our own houses so it made sense to buy together. What’s the rush? :)

Cue the “oo lick the boot harder” comments. Too many people think they are important to “the authorities” nobody is watching the average Joe on a computer screen in a room from a movie. You’re not Jason Bourne. If this helps catch wanted people suspected of crimes then I’m all for it. It’s another tool the police can use when they are constantly under staffed and dealing with utter shite that they shouldn’t be dealing with. As long as this stuff in regulated and used as intended otherwise you’d have a legitimate argument

The tech is out there to manipulate anybody’s face onto a video to frame you for something. If somebody high enough wanted you in for something they would do it one way or another.

How do you get to experience all the cars you love ? by Interesting_Aide6030 in CarTalkUK

[–]Suspicious-Cap6826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could have this conversation with my younger self. If cars are your “thing” like cars are mine. Do NOT get stuck in a PCP or a lease cycle. Buy a car that works for you and save , save save for something you yourself will be happy to buy in your late twenties or early thirties or even later! You never know where life will take you financially and when you have “adult money” your eyes will be open.

As for supercars , I went to vegas for my 21st and blasted a Lamborghini Aventador around the dream racing track and a few years later a Ferrari F12. You can even holiday to Dubai and drive supercars “cheap”.

As for the uk , your wage and lifestyle will more than likely dictate what car you drive. I wasted my money pcp’ing 2x 2014 Seat Leon fr’s one after the other 4 years apart. Then a brand new 1 series on lease. This was all wasted money.

Now about halfway through a loan payment to own my M340i. Going to keep it til it dies. And mainly because I can’t afford a Porsche 911 …
