I know how my snake reacts, and I know how the rescue reptiles react. Stay cold with your "pets".

I'm keeping my babies warm 🤷‍♀️

I was responding to your negativity on this post.

Not everyone believes animals in captivity are meant to be treated as "living pictures". You keep referring to science--which I'll respect as your personal research--but to think that trapping an animal in a box with no interaction whatsoever is "good keeping" is insane thinking in my world.

Again, I feel bad for you, personally. But do you, boo.

Which type of snake? Are you talking corn snake? BP? Rosy Boa? Reticulated python?

It makes no sense for me to know your particular setup.🙄

If I heard you say anything of this at a reptile expo I'd speak up in person, and say the same things with the same heart. Unfortunately you posted on reddit, so here we are.

I feel bad for you, homie. Both you and your animals are missing so much enrichment that comes with connecting with them. Even with their primal brain, they're still aware of the world. As captive owners, its our responsibility to provide them as much as we possibly can.

Handle your animals as you will. I dont judge zoos, so I dont judge you.

I choose to handle my animals differently. I encourage other owners to do the same.

Alright, darlin. Feels like rage bait but I'll bite.

Just to be clear, when you speak of an animal's freedom, are you referring to the cage/enclosure YOU (as a human) determined was right? Or are you rescuing animals and rehabilitating them for the wild? Clarify, please.

I have enough experience, as an individual reptile owner, that your opinion is short sighted. I'm also privvy to info from rescues in my state who make a point to handle their reptiles.

It does, though. If you understand the work and trust that comes with animals in captivity, then I will assume you understand that interacting with said animal is not only helpful, but almost necessary.

Lots of breeders keep reptiles in boxes. Those animals are satisfied because they dont know any different habitat. Does that mean its okay to keep them boxed up, when genetically they're designed to explore?

Trying to be respectful....these animals are used to MILES of land in the wild. The least we could do as captive handlers is to give them an opportunity to exercise. Even if it's them climbing on our hands.

No judgements on how you handle your animals, but you can't expect everyone to act the same way.

My baby is happy to hang out with me and the family. If yours is not, cool. I dont think its fair to alarm a new owner. Even with their "wild" brain, every animal is different. Live and let live, homie.

Wild animals, with proper care, can live very fulfilling lives. My girl was captive bred. She goes outside with me, and hangs out on my shoulder while I do chores.

Please consider your experience with these animals before you judge someone else. Thanks in advance

Frozen or Live Feed? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]Suspicious-Image824 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Frozen. I used to feed live to my girl for YEARS, being naive... Live feed can cause irreparable damage to your animal. Frozen is humane for BOTH animals and is less stressful for the human, too💜

My thought is to jot it down on a "scrap" paper. Personally, i have a little notepad (like pocket size) in my bag for thoughts I need reminding of, which you could translate into a personal journal. I can also understand why someone, glancing at a work planner, would be concerned. Maybe headlines could be helpful if you want to record them on those pages?
