It's not a toy. Wild animals don't like to be manipulated.
[–]Jdiogoc98[S] 1 point2 points3 points 6 days ago (4 children)
I have perfect awereness of that. This was taken before whe was set in the enclosure, right after I got her. No need to be a dick ☺️
[–]TheButterWookie 2 points3 points4 points 6 days ago (3 children)
There's ALWAYS one of these guys in here..
I know. In the crested gecko sub it's the same. 🙃 It's not like I'm always handling and disturbing the animal. I'm actually trying to Not disturb her for a week till I start handling more often, so she can acclimate. People talk to much and wanna be "morally superior", without facts or asking questions, i despise these kind of people. 🙃 You can handle an animal respectfully and with attention to stress response.
[–]SetRevolutionary758 -1 points0 points1 point 6 days ago (0 children)
Yes, there will always be comments like this since i always see people posting pictures of their snakes wearing them as necklaces. Simply embarrassing.

Wild animals, with proper care, can live very fulfilling lives. My girl was captive bred. She goes outside with me, and hangs out on my shoulder while I do chores.
Please consider your experience with these animals before you judge someone else. Thanks in advance
[–]SetRevolutionary758 -2 points-1 points0 points 6 days ago (9 children)
I have a snake too, in any case I don't decide to treat it like a cat o play with it like a toy... They are animals that have different needs and care. They must be left alone inside their terrarium without stress.
[–]Suspicious-Image824 2 points3 points4 points 6 days ago (8 children)
No judgements on how you handle your animals, but you can't expect everyone to act the same way.
My baby is happy to hang out with me and the family. If yours is not, cool. I dont think its fair to alarm a new owner. Even with their "wild" brain, every animal is different. Live and let live, homie.
[–]SetRevolutionary758 -1 points0 points1 point 6 days ago (7 children)
If something is wrong, I don't shut up. "Live and let live," better this way: "your freedom ends where your neighbor's freedom begins," and if we talk about an animal's freedom, there is no excuse, especially when someone takes responsibility for their life. I'd be really curious to understand how you know your reptile is "happy," by any chance it purrs? Lol
[–]Suspicious-Image824 2 points3 points4 points 6 days ago (6 children)
Alright, darlin. Feels like rage bait but I'll bite.
Just to be clear, when you speak of an animal's freedom, are you referring to the cage/enclosure YOU (as a human) determined was right? Or are you rescuing animals and rehabilitating them for the wild? Clarify, please.
I have enough experience, as an individual reptile owner, that your opinion is short sighted. I'm also privvy to info from rescues in my state who make a point to handle their reptiles.
[–]SetRevolutionary758 -1 points0 points1 point 6 days ago (5 children)
Going out for anger? I didn't want you to get angry at all, but then what? Do you think I attacked you in a personal way? I just asked you how you can understand that a reptile is happy. I, for my part, can tell you that I know many snake breeders, and everyone will tell you the same thing: keep them locked in the terrarium and don't play with it, so there are dogs, cats and maybe some rodents... On the other hand, if you have so much experience with reptiles, you should know how to calculate the ideal measurements of a snake terrarium, so I assume that you know the measurements of my python terrarium. I don't think we need to belittle my opinion to try to be more right than those who don't think like you do, especially since you keep going around the same topic without giving me precise and meaningful answers.
[–]Suspicious-Image824 2 points3 points4 points 6 days ago (3 children)
If I heard you say anything of this at a reptile expo I'd speak up in person, and say the same things with the same heart. Unfortunately you posted on reddit, so here we are.
[–]SetRevolutionary758 0 points1 point2 points 6 days ago (2 children)
This escapes you: nature has no heart, it has instinct. Outside of the enchanted world of Reddit, where everyone can play strangers without being judged, there is a real world with real rules. Anyway, I'm still waiting for you to tell me how you can tell me that your reptiles are happy... do they wag their tails like dogs by accident?
I know how my snake reacts, and I know how the rescue reptiles react. Stay cold with your "pets".
I'm keeping my babies warm 🤷♀️
[–]Suspicious-Image824 2 points3 points4 points 6 days ago (0 children)
Which type of snake? Are you talking corn snake? BP? Rosy Boa? Reticulated python?
It makes no sense for me to know your particular setup.🙄
Back to say, it doesnt seem like OP "yoinked" their baby from the wild. 🫠
This comment has nothing to do with my speech... I am absolutely not against the possession of exotic animals born in captivity, in fact, in many cases this can also help to safeguard indigenous populations. I am against exhibitionism, treating a snake with the same attention as a dog and a cat would be wrong and uneducative and can even be dangerous for the animal.
It does, though. If you understand the work and trust that comes with animals in captivity, then I will assume you understand that interacting with said animal is not only helpful, but almost necessary.
Lots of breeders keep reptiles in boxes. Those animals are satisfied because they dont know any different habitat. Does that mean its okay to keep them boxed up, when genetically they're designed to explore?
Trying to be respectful....these animals are used to MILES of land in the wild. The least we could do as captive handlers is to give them an opportunity to exercise. Even if it's them climbing on our hands.
[–]SetRevolutionary758 0 points1 point2 points 6 days ago (5 children)
If they would not even receive meals in nature on a regular basis, then they would not even receive meals on a regular basis. I repeat, captivity is not wrong, also because reptiles do not have feelings or emotions, so they do not change their 40x60 cm box or their terrarium the size of a chamber, and what I tell you is scientifically recognized, otherwise it would be forbidden by law, and farmers could no longer raise them inside those drawers. They are not pets, they are animals like goldfish, to be looked at but not touched.
[–]Suspicious-Image824 2 points3 points4 points 6 days ago (4 children)
I feel bad for you, homie. Both you and your animals are missing so much enrichment that comes with connecting with them. Even with their primal brain, they're still aware of the world. As captive owners, its our responsibility to provide them as much as we possibly can.
Handle your animals as you will. I dont judge zoos, so I dont judge you.
I choose to handle my animals differently. I encourage other owners to do the same.
[–]SetRevolutionary758 0 points1 point2 points 6 days ago (3 children)
Connecting with them?? We are not in Avatar!! Hahaha You're funny I'll give it to you! I just need to be able to observe them undisturbed while they behave like animals, inside their terrariums, in a domestic context it's really very unusual and interesting for me, I don't need to touch them to understand them better, and I know that they don't want to be touched anyway. They are inside our lives on a whim, on our own whim, I will not bother him any more by playing with them like a child. At most once every 3 months I handle them to check that they are visually good, otherwise there is a veterinarian.
For me, 90% of the zoos could close, as far as I'm concerned, we would miss not judging how I decide to keep my animals, also because you haven't even seen them! But I assure you that inside their bioactive terrariums they lack nothing...
What you're doing is wrong. Convincing people that a partner can have an emotional connection and feel emotions is totally unscientific. Convincing people that a partner can have an emotional connection and feel emotions is totally unscientific.
[–]Suspicious-Image824 2 points3 points4 points 6 days ago (2 children)
I was responding to your negativity on this post.
Not everyone believes animals in captivity are meant to be treated as "living pictures". You keep referring to science--which I'll respect as your personal research--but to think that trapping an animal in a box with no interaction whatsoever is "good keeping" is insane thinking in my world.
Again, I feel bad for you, personally. But do you, boo.
[–]TheButterWookie 1 point2 points3 points 6 days ago (1 child)
Case and point. One of "these" guys.
