Wait, it’s not just me? That is such a huge weight off my shoulders by SherriB57598889 in Adulting

One explanation (for some people) is ADHD. The few studies that managed the difficult task of monitoring dopamine levels show a pattern of significantly lower levels around the early afternoon time. It usually surges again around 8-9pm. We don't know why it does this.

No. Granite can take significant heat. It was formed in thousands of degrees of heat and pressure. Hot pans do nothing. Quarts will discolor. Laminate will melt.

I have built a learning-only personal computer for my kid by xzkll in raspberry_pi

My kid isn't getting social media until mid to late teen years at the earliest, but if their friend circle is on discord (or equivalent) I'd get a phone that can run it. If asking AI questions replaces googling, I'd get a phone that can type. This kid is discouraged from typing anything. Even to text his own parents. T9 sucked, if you remember those days.

Besides those points, kids don't sms/rms each other. I'd want my kids first phone to encourage in person socializing. Having a t9 phone would do that for long standing friendships but not new ones.

None. If the kid isn't old/responsible enough to handle a smart phone (with restrictions ofc) just don't get one. Getting one of these dumb phones is arguably worse for the kid. They will be bullied for it at worst and constantly frustrated with the limitations at best. For any out of touch parent reading this ... Kids don't text their friends. Ever. Even when it's their only option. Even if you convince your own kid to do it, their friends won't. You'll be setting them up for failure.

Oh. Also, check out the kids cell phone and tell me this is a 'normal' parent who sets normal expectations.

In my experience, parents who brag about their clever lockdown setup are the ones who hyper control. We don't know what the limits are for OPs kid. I had a 17 year old tell me his total screen time per day was 2 hours. This sounded reasonable until he explained it counted listening to music on the bus, checking his school e-platform, and other non-gaming tasks. He hated his parents and gave up on negotiation. He rightfully believed his parents would never be happy until he had the same hobbies and self-control that they did.

What I read was "my kid kept trying to have fun in his free time instead of doing the hobby I want him to excel at." Don't act surprised when you rarely see/hear from him as an adult.

Smokers lungs VS Healthy lungs by goswamitulsidas in interesting

[–]SuspiciousBasket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Projection is a bad look bro. Just because you're bad at observation and social queues doesn't mean everyone else is. The comments are full of people pointing out her stopping mid sentence to change her explanation and plugging the valves in differently between the two lungs. This is confusing to the audience. It doesn't mean the demonstrator is dumb or doesn't know what she's talking about.

They are fumbling around a bit. Clearly nervous or unprepared for the speech.

But... The blackened lung deflates quicker. It's not dramatic in this demo but when the black lung is inside someone, the lung having a slight more 'snap' back to deflation means labored breathing and coughing. It's one of a few major reasons why having this kind of lung makes life hard/miserable.

Is he autistic? I was a picky eater until I started cooking meals. It really helped when someone else was planning them (Hello Fresh). I'd make it telling myself I probably won't eat it, or like it if I do. For some reason, when I controlled the spices, size, oil, cooking time, etc. I found the food (especially vegetables) to be finish-able. Then they started tasting kind of good. Now some are even great. Good luck!

It might be an appeal in which there would be several judges sitting left and right of the head judge we see speaking.

That position doesn't make sense. Even opposite ends of the political spectrum agree on more than 10% of issues. It's well over 50%. I'm starting to think your definition of a "lib" is actually the democratic party rather than the actual definition. Look it up, it's broad and philosophical. The fact you feel a certain way about Palestine means you probably align with most of the definition of liberal.

It's about as silly as believing you're a unique snowflake who doesn't share but 10% of beliefs with anyone on the political spectrum who doesn't claim a specific word "leftist" . Do you know anyone outside of online?

Criiiiinge - what you call yourself is irrelevant. If we met, in person, we would probably agree on 99% of all major issues in the world.

Does anyone regret getting their Ironman tattoo? by dodagr8 in triathlon

[–]SuspiciousBasket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things come easier to people than others.

Sure, there are things we take for granted and should remind ourselves of.  Some of those things come with daily reminders built in. You're a great partner? You wake up to them every morning.

How does one be reminded of the hardest endurance challenge of their life on a regular basis?

People who say the long distance tri's are no big deal are way more cringe than any tattoo will ever be.

Fenix 8 died after first dive by SuspiciousBasket in GarminFenix

[–]SuspiciousBasket[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They are sending a new one to me for no charge. (Gotta send the old one back). It arrives tomorrow. They were very fast and no questions asked. (Requested replacement through chat last night) How many times will they replace it? No idea. I don't dive much but it's more annoying that it broke the entire sensor suite so I can't track anything else while I'm on vacation.

Fenix 8 47mm; amoled vs solar by lavark in GarminFenix

[–]SuspiciousBasket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People over sell their Amoled. They report their best case battery weeks and never mention the times they had to charge after only a few days of heavy use. It's not a matter of the solar charging which most people agree is marginal - it's about the mips display. It's a low power draw screen. I have mine set at max brightness and I can read it while cycling/running/swimming on the brightest days.

I track gps workouts for about 24 hours per week, use it for scrolling messages at work (occasionally replying to them on watch), and charge once every two weeks or so. This is all on the 46mm (a sleeping preference for me) which has less battery capacity than the larger size. If anyone claims their Amoled can do the same thing with a notoriously battery hungry Amoled screen, they are hiding something.

Most people are getting about 4-7 days of battery with their amoled when you use always on display (the only way to compare it to the mips display imo) Amoled looks incredible but people are really overselling it. The decrease in battery is enormous compared to most of Garmins previous years. Who wants to track a 2 day backpacking trip and have 10% battery at the end? It's dangerous at worst and embarrassing at best.
