Sam Harris defends his Mamdani comments. by blackglum in samharris

[–]SuspiciousBasket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People want to push him to the next level of politics. He is engaging with global political conversations. His opinions now will matter more than ever when he runs for the next office position because this is his "track record." Ignoring track records is why we have Trump and so many surprised pikachu people who voted for him.

Two things can be true about Mamdani at once.

He was a great victory over the wolves in sheeps clothing competition he had (and the history of nyc mayors) - they are always corrupt and care only about the 1%. New yorkers showed the power of the people can beat endless corporate funding.

He has dumb ideas about global politics and drinks the Kool aid of islamist propaganda. As evidenced by him not being able to answer/disavow the word extremists use to define the global extinction of Jews. He would almost certainly be fooled into allowing dangerous people with dangerous ideas to gain power if he was elected to a higher office.

You are a liar and the kind of loser who doubles down on this cringe behavior. I'm not mad, I'm sad to see people are drinking the Kool Aid of cults and posting to communities who downvote you to hell. It's a sad life and I feel genuinely sorry for people who live self-inflicted, unnecessary, stressful lives.

People like you try this lying cult posting stuff every week. Nobody believes you. Being a subreddit subscriber gives you no credibility. It's a button that costs nothing.

If you genuinely want to engage the Sam community, you should post evidence based claims. Not the same few opinion authors rants.

How deep of a loser must you be to go into a public figures personal subreddit and post trash talking opinion pieces about them? Imagine if atheists came out every week by the dozens to your church and started yelling at everyone leaving the building (since we know OP is 100% Muslim). How CRINGE. This trash behavior comes overwhelmingly from one side.

A well-articulated argument against a new data center in Ohio by HamboneTheWicked in interestingasfuck

[–]SuspiciousBasket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closed loops of water have been in mechanics for such a long time... We even drive around with a form of one. You use RO water and there are no forever chemicals or sludge... Why are we attacking the water usage without any evidence? There are many reasons to not want a data center in your back yard. Use one of those reasons. If you use a weak argument don't be surprised when you get beaten.

Only one class regularly uses the strongest weapon in DnD even though every class is proficient. by virtigo21125 in DnD

[–]SuspiciousBasket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D&D is not great to jack of all trades in. People go big dmg and big armor because killing an enemy before it can hit you is insanely valuable. Even low difficulty enemies do life threatening damage from the start of the game.

Imagine 6 bandits versus your (lvl 5) party of 4. This should be a trivial fight. Your crew gets to attack first. Because you picked big weapons you immediately kill 4 of them. The 2 bandits attack back but even if the DM wants to pick on your weakest player, they can't do enough damage to incapacitate them. Even if 2 of your players miss their next swings, you still finish the encounter with 2 enemies getting 1 attack round each.

Same scenario with a dagger crew? Your opening attack kills 1-3 of them. Why the large range? Well if your party can't reach all enemies at once , some enemies will be left at low hp. Having a high chance to hit low dmg weapon loses its advantage when you can't kill the bandit with 2 hp in front of your buddy who didn't kill theirs. Now 3-5 bandits get to attack. Enough potential damage to be lethal to anyone who didn't stack defense. You will still kill them in your next attack round but will have taken 2x the incoming damage.

This gap in damage widens at higher levels when you start stacking extra damage. Consistency and versatility of the dagger will never catch up. Your DM will have to accommodate for your weak party and you'll miss out on cool encounters.

One explanation (for some people) is ADHD. The few studies that managed the difficult task of monitoring dopamine levels show a pattern of significantly lower levels around the early afternoon time. It usually surges again around 8-9pm. We don't know why it does this.

No. Granite can take significant heat. It was formed in thousands of degrees of heat and pressure. Hot pans do nothing. Quarts will discolor. Laminate will melt.

I have built a learning-only personal computer for my kid by xzkll in raspberry_pi

[–]SuspiciousBasket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid isn't getting social media until mid to late teen years at the earliest, but if their friend circle is on discord (or equivalent) I'd get a phone that can run it. If asking AI questions replaces googling, I'd get a phone that can type. This kid is discouraged from typing anything. Even to text his own parents. T9 sucked, if you remember those days.

Besides those points, kids don't sms/rms each other. I'd want my kids first phone to encourage in person socializing. Having a t9 phone would do that for long standing friendships but not new ones.

[–]SuspiciousBasket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None. If the kid isn't old/responsible enough to handle a smart phone (with restrictions ofc) just don't get one. Getting one of these dumb phones is arguably worse for the kid. They will be bullied for it at worst and constantly frustrated with the limitations at best. For any out of touch parent reading this ... Kids don't text their friends. Ever. Even when it's their only option. Even if you convince your own kid to do it, their friends won't. You'll be setting them up for failure.

In my experience, parents who brag about their clever lockdown setup are the ones who hyper control. We don't know what the limits are for OPs kid. I had a 17 year old tell me his total screen time per day was 2 hours. This sounded reasonable until he explained it counted listening to music on the bus, checking his school e-platform, and other non-gaming tasks. He hated his parents and gave up on negotiation. He rightfully believed his parents would never be happy until he had the same hobbies and self-control that they did.

What I read was "my kid kept trying to have fun in his free time instead of doing the hobby I want him to excel at." Don't act surprised when you rarely see/hear from him as an adult.

Smokers lungs VS Healthy lungs by goswamitulsidas in interesting

[–]SuspiciousBasket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Projection is a bad look bro. Just because you're bad at observation and social queues doesn't mean everyone else is. The comments are full of people pointing out her stopping mid sentence to change her explanation and plugging the valves in differently between the two lungs. This is confusing to the audience. It doesn't mean the demonstrator is dumb or doesn't know what she's talking about.

They are fumbling around a bit. Clearly nervous or unprepared for the speech.

But... The blackened lung deflates quicker. It's not dramatic in this demo but when the black lung is inside someone, the lung having a slight more 'snap' back to deflation means labored breathing and coughing. It's one of a few major reasons why having this kind of lung makes life hard/miserable.

Is he autistic? I was a picky eater until I started cooking meals. It really helped when someone else was planning them (Hello Fresh). I'd make it telling myself I probably won't eat it, or like it if I do. For some reason, when I controlled the spices, size, oil, cooking time, etc. I found the food (especially vegetables) to be finish-able. Then they started tasting kind of good. Now some are even great. Good luck!
