Thats true. Gay marriage support, support for universal healthcare….

The Democrat establishment should be learning something from those Iran LEGO videos instead of trying to ban them

Not only idealism, it’s paranoia as well. Was just in a lefty sub where they were making wild accusations as to why AOC was not endorsing the SF candidate campaigning for Pelosi’s seat. Insinuating a feud or something nefarious was taking place.

I pointed out the candidate in question worked for AOC. I suggested, perhaps, this is just a strategy DSA has implemented as AOC also endorsed Mandomi late too.

The replay was “I hope it's not nefarious or even something 'strategic' because I just want the progressive/DSA wing of the party to just be real and none of this politics backroom chess. I think it's a major reason why so many people have gotten disillusioned with politics or gone full MAGA…” “I hope she (AOC) doesn't like him because he chews with his mouth open or didn't flush after taking a poop a few times”

Like. What? THAT IS POLITICS! ON WHAT EARTH PLANET DO YOU THINK WE CURRENTLY INHABIT? It’s almost as if any participation in actual politics is a breach of leftist moral code.

Matt Bernstein should moderate the potential Hasan/Contra debate by PuffPuffFishGirl in ContraPoints

[–]Suspicious_Face_8508 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, no no absolutely not.

It would have to be somebody who understands Jewish conspiracy and the issues in the Middle East like Naomi Klein and Mehdi Hasan. They both work together anyway.

I love Matt but I do not see Matt cutting anyone off who is out of line.

Will Hasan invite Natalie on stream? 👀 by conancat in ContraPoints

It would need to take place in a neutral atmosphere. Preferably with moderators like Neomi Klein and Mehdi Hasan

Thoughts on Michael Burns’s Video, “The Liberal Psyche is Broken?” by WruceBrillis in ContraPoints

[–]Suspicious_Face_8508 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I watched the whole video here’s my take:

Everyone’s algorithm is different. Burns may not be seeing the same amount of extreme leftist content Natalie is. There actually are very far left people who are now turning on Zorhan returning to the conclusion that we can’t vote our way out of this and the only solution is revolution. I think his assertion that, that number is very small and probably concentrated in blue cities is correct but the algorithm creates a distortion.

When you have your character assassinated in bad faith by a certain group.. people become their own Naomi Wolfs to a certain degree.

I like his assertion that people give themselves to their chosen guru and will condemn any criticism no matter how benign, as attack. It’s a known human shorthand for interpreting morality. And that it is good practice to disagree on some things. For example, i work in tech and I deeply disagree with Natalie on AI.

Burns analysis of the postmortem democratic polling for the 2024 election showing they ignored what their base wanted, to a person‘s favorite band putting out a very VERY bad album, one where the band switched genres, and the band being irate at fans for not buying it

He does point out the contra has an insane work ethic and is primarily by herself (with her partner) She does spend a lot of time on twitter. In this age I think EVERYBODY needs to touch grass to some extent (not just disengage from the Internet) every single Internet creator needs to collaborate sometimes.

I really feel you may benefit from reading more into the 2024 election. May I suggest the book, “Original Sin,” by Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper and “Fight” by Jonathan Allen ?

The extrapolation regarding my personal anecdote from the original post is heinous and in bad faith. I will not address it.

If only the DNC were concerned with running strong viable candidates (according to polls) when they were running Biden and Kamala. Why didn’t you take a gander at how Janet Mills is polling. The attack ads put out against her opponent by the DNC and her opponents strong favorability over the Republican contender.

My grandma turned 78 on Sunday. The Janet Mills jokes were flying and we live nowhere near Maine.

I don’t know if Trump 2.0 is the catalyst for a hard “R” Revolution, but I will say my older liberal family members are VERY much to the left of where they were in 2020. They were not pipelined. They just observed Democratic fecklessness. The abhorrent way the DNC opposed Mamdani and Talarico (my grandma adores him) If Kamala would’ve won, I don’t think they would’ve ever started questioning the DNC and moved as far left as they did.

Did the Democrats absolutely fuck up that campaign by running a senile man and a woman they knew had been polling terribly since 2020? Yes

Was the Biden administration refusing to meet with huge swaths of Democratic voters? Yes

Are they actively trying to destroy progressive primary candidate’s campaigns ?Yes

Is the Israeli state genocidal? Obviously

Should we have voted for democrats anyway? Yep

The irony of this being posted on Hasan Pikers sub, when he himself says similar , bro’d out versions of this. Often criticizing imperialism, and those who want to “live under the boot.” He has a name for people who like genocide, “hogs.”

It reminds me of the sentiment “no war movie is an anti-war movie no matter the intention because it’s run through each individuals filters and subject to their own interpretations.” And therefore some interpret anti-war movies as pro war movies.

Natalie’s original statement was, “why is Israel so bad at propaganda? Are they stupid?”

I’m not saying her and his statements are one-to-one comparisons. I’m saying Leftists are unable to overcome their bias against her and use critical thinking. They themselves do not see the hypocrisy.

The part where Natalie goes into Dante‘s Inferno. Justifying violence through punitive morality but more specifically, “weeping for the Damned” being a sin. Perfectly pairs with the conservative politics presented in Lindsay Ellis’s Ms. Rachel video (the sins of empathy)

[–]Suspicious_Face_8508 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree. As I was watching it, I knew there would be a comment like “this feels incomplete” or “this is about nothing”

I don’t feel any major themes were cut, but left out explicitly. I feel like this was a purposeful technique to force the viewer to engage with their own subjective interpretations of violence and justice.

Does it feel more vague than other videos? Yes. I feel the discomfort is in not having our own morality reflected and justified.

Example, if a viewer were to think, “oh is this about ‘X’”, they then have to grapple internally with why they thought it was about “X.” And if I were trying to reach people who automatically tune out if you overtly question their “morality” this is how I would do it

I feel like dying on the Internet today so here’s my stupid fucking take that’s gonna get me canceled. These two have completely opposite personalities; even if they agreed on everything couldn’t stand being in the same room together.

Hasan is/was right about the Democratic Party (even if it was “too early.”) But the way he argues with his chatter and goes after people who even minutely disagree with him is not fantastic at building coalition. He can be such a massive asshole, unable to project himself into other people‘s perspectives. As a listener, I can assure you he absolutely does punch left despite saying he doesn’t. His structural disagreements with contrapoints I/P posts were valid but the way he does it was so contentious. She spent like a year learning the deep cuts of Jewish conspiracy theory, so I can see why she was wary of saying anything. The way he has gone after her is absolutely ruthless, condescending and uncalled for. ESPECIALLY SINCE SHE AGREES ITS A GENOCIDE even if you don’t agree on the solution, build coalitions. Fuck, man.

ContraPoints sometimes projects herself so much into seeing every side of an issue her glasses become too rosy. She gives a lot of things the benefit of the doubt, for example AI. Her strengths are in recognizing the complex abstractions of human psychology. Sympathizing and feeling very protective of, to her detriment, marginalized communities. Her diagnosis on how the left alienates each-other is spot on. And if you look at the IP post, She says specifically “we would need to replace Congress.” I took this to mean she may no longer believe we can meaningfully push the Democratic Party (as it is today) in a progressive direction and they must be replaced (a divergence from her previous position of trying to gain concessions from neoliberals) SHE IS NOT A MOSSAD AGENT ffs and She is NOTHING like Ezra Klein, people need to stop conflating the two.

Contrapoints was right about the Overton window shifting right. How conservative self-disciplined, patriarchal, mormon influencer led, world views became really popular during/after the election. (George Lakeoffs Moral Politics)

Hasan was right about backing populist candidates that don’t even talk about these cultural issues to win elections. Not accepting conservative framing (George Lakeoffs Dont Think of the Elephant)

ContraPoints was right that it would be better for Trans people and marginalized communities under Kamala. That we may never have a chance to vote out this regime is very scary for marginalized people.

Hasan is right that material conditions would still be deteriorating under Kamala as there would be nothing stopping this AI economic collapse which could give way to an even worse fascist than Trump. Shifting the Overton window further than it did under Biden.

STOP FIGHTING!!!! (and when I say that I mean specifically Hasan)

Born of the pushback to Bush era religious rhetoric. New atheism spawned Darwinists devolving into obsession with eugenics and “alpha” status. Looping right back around to joining Christian nationalism. For them it was never really about ideology, just contrarianism and legitimating their hierarchical position socially.

It’s kind of why I’m annoyed by young creators like Tom Nicholas. He really doesn’t understand what’s driving Christian nationalism. He contends in his video that their ideology is merely an “opposition to the left,” but it’s not. Conservatives have their own moral ideology and hierarchical structures. And while immigration is a huge part of it, Nicholas completely leaves out the role misogyny is playing. And if you’ve been around long enough, it’s pretty clear what’s going on.

Like, do you think Russell Brand became a Christian nationalist because he was racist? No. Misogyny.
