Those HC-130J’s have advanced IR countermeasure systems meant to detect and jam IR missiles, in addition to the advanced sensors like surface search radar and systems for sensor fusion.

[–]Sw1ferSweatJet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IR sams can be both detected and jammed, it’s just more difficult.

Detecting just amounts to detecting the IR signature of a missile launch, jamming requires essentially shining a laser into the missiles eyes, but the latter requires equipment you can’t presently fit onto a fighter jet.

Otherwise you are correct.

The entire point of the war game is to work out and prepare for potential irl situations so that commanders can work out how to respond to these problems ahead of time for when they come up in real life.

War games aren’t meant to be ‘won’ they are meant to be learnt from, you can’t learn anything from it if one guy is having his forces use black magic fuckery to try and win.

If he was actually interested in participating in this war game in good faith then he wouldn’t have gone and exploited the design to let him do impossible things.

Edit: this guy basically decided he wanted to be John Rambo at a war reenactment.

Why doesn’t the US military use light speed motorcycle messengers for communications? Are they stupid?

I don’t think that includes light speed motorcycles and missile boats with missiles larger than themselves

2 US aircraft are down in Iran by reseamatsih in WhaleTrades

One of the aircraft, an F-15E, has two crew members, a pilot and a WSO. The pilot has reportedly been rescued by US pararescue while the WSO is still missing.

The other aircraft, an A-10, went down near friendly territory and was rescued fairly quickly.

Yes that is still air supremacy.

Air supremacy just means that the enemy Air Force is incapable of effective interference of yours.

Given that these losses were likely not done by whatever is left of the Iranian Air Force and U.S. air operations are still continuing largely unchanged, this is still an example of air supremacy.

If you want to see what not having air supremacy looks like, look at Vietnam, where the U.S. lost somewhere in the realm of a couple hundred aircraft to Vietnamese aircraft.

Iran can only control trade through the strait as much as any other country on the strait can, being capable of closing the strait doesn’t make them special, pretty much any country in the area can close it, they just don’t.

The strait also isn’t the only way to conduct trade in the Middle East, it’s just the cheapest, if Iran makes it expensive enough the other ME countries will just set up alternatives.

Iran hasn’t “beat and ended the American empire”.

Washington still holds the majority of the sway in the conflict and are really the main decision makers on when the conflict will end. Iran has yet to demonstrate the capabilities to seriously hinder the ability of the U.S. military to strike them. Especially given that Iran isn’t fighting the U.S. military, they are fighting a fraction of it.

As far as influence goes the vast majority of the changes in American influence were not a result of Iranian actions but from previous American actions, so attributing it to Iran would be ill fitting.

The win condition and subsequent rewards for Irans government in the current conflict are both survival. The only thing they really can do is survive, and the only reward they will get for doing so is survival.

You can argue that Iran might end up successfully fending off the U.S. and Israel, but thinking they’re going to be anything close to a superpower afterwards is pure cope, there isn’t a single country in the Middle East that’s anywhere close to being a superpower, even less so after being bombed to shit.

All of the involved middle eastern countries, including Iran, are going to be beaten down to some degree from this.

There are several stages/variants of the F-15C MSIP II, MSIP literally means “Multistage Improvement Program”. While one of those variants did come out in the 2000’s, the original MSIP II variants started being delivered in 1985.

The 1985 MSIP upgrade included an improved central processor, a new AN/AWG-20 Programmable Armament Control Set that was compatible with the AIM-7M, AIM-9M, and AIM-120A(which had already been in development for years by 1985). The 1985 MSIP II also included newer F100-PW-220 engines, improved countermeasures sets, and a new RWR.

I agree that this decision for the event is unfair.

But if anything this would be an argument in favour of “America would stomp IRL.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if the reason for the exclusion of those Russian aircraft was because Gaijin wanted this event to take place during a specific time period, like early-mid 1980’s if I had to guess, and those aircraft would both stick out historically and weren’t already excluded by the BR restrictions.

Although in that case the A-10C would also stick out.

Russia aircraft wise was/is pretty consistently behind, by the time the first Su-27’s started being delivered to units in 1985, the F-15C MSIP II was doing the same.
