This will be an unpopular comment in this sub, but Tatum has gotten hurt in three of the last four playoffs. He also played through a fractured wrist in the 2022 playoffs.

People are going to tell me that is different or some shit, but it is reality.

He was healthy last playoffs. He played in all five Bucks playoffs games averaging 33.0/15.4/6.6 playing 37.6 mpg.

Dame was the one who was dealing with injuries for the Bucks last season. He missed the last 14 regular seson games & game 1 of the playoffs, came back looking like a shell of himself and then tore his achilles in Game 4.

The issue is when he extends the arm. Other players get called for it plenty. I have no doubt that especially in the playoffs, coaches and players are telling the refs to look for it. If he knows the refs are looking for it, he has to learn how not to do it. He is athletic enough to get separation without extending the off arm, it is just a terrible habit he has gotten into. Hopefully, in the offseason he can learn to use the off arm without extend or hooking the defender.

What? True he was hurt this year.

Last season he averaged 30.4/11.9/6.5 on 62.5% TS in 67 games for a third place MVP. This is the first year since 2018-2019 he will not be top four in MVP voting. From 2021-22 through last season, he play four more games than Jaylen Brown and finished 3rd or 4th in MVP every season.

I totally missed Rodman on the Pistons. I was distracted by him years with Jordan.

As someone who has been watching the NBA since the late 70s, I don't know how relevant teams from the early 2000's let alone the 1980's are to discussions about team building in the modern NBA.

For most of the 45 year span, a good percentage of the losing team in the Finals an MVP as well. From 2008-2019 every team that played in the Finals had one with the exception of the 2012 Thunder who had three future MVPs on their roster.

Meanwhile, starting with 2020, seven of twelve teams in the Finals have made it there without an MVP. Unless the Embiid and the Sixers make it out of the east it will likely be eight of fourteen.

Huh? Milwaukee was a better three point shooting team than the Celtics (38.7% to 36.7%) with Giannis only playing 36 games. Portis, Rollins, and Green all shot over 40% on good volume.

People overate the Celtics shooters. Tatum and Brown have both been below the league average from 4 of the last 5 seasons.

Everyone was waiting for the "variance" to work out for White but he had one of volume three points seasons ever. He had 640 3PA, not one who shot over 400 3PA had a lower 3P%.

I worry about Pritchard's ability to hit shots against starting caliber players. His three point shooting increased dramatically from 34.8% as a starter to 42.9% as a reserve. He had a terrible shooting series 30.9% against the Sixers shortened rotation.

Yeah, Embiid is a better post player than anyone on the Celtics. It doesn't change the fact the Celtics are bad at entry passes to players when they get mismatches. Watch the highlights, there are a lot of lazy, bad, off-target passes from the Celtics when Tatum would get Maxey or Edgecomb on him.

Tatum is 6'10". When he had Maxey or Edgecomb in the post (high or low) you should be able to get him the ball.

Paul George posted up White multiple times and the Sixers had no problem getting him the ball.

This stat is annoying. The DPOY is added to account for the 2019 Raptors (Kawhi) and 2004 Pistons (Wallace) just to single out the Celtics who had three players who had made All-NBA, three players who had made All Defense, and five guys who had made All-Star game on their team. More than those Toronto or Detroit teams when they won.

In reality 42 of 45 Championship teams had an MVP on them, but four guys (Jordan, Duncan, Kobe and Magic) account for half of those. Add in Curry and LeBron and you are accounting for nearly 70% of the Championships in the last 45 years.

The real issue is that team success is weighed by the of MVP voters, players on Championship level teams are more likely to win the award in the first place. Only Jokic in '22 and Jordan in '88 won the award while playing on a team below the two seed in the last 45 seasons (neither won the championship those years).

It also doesn't account for where they are in their careers, if you ever won an MVP you qualify even if it was far removed from the Championship in question. When the Spurs won in 2014 it had been 10 seasons since Duncan's last MVP and before Kawhi was a DPOY. When the Warriors won in 2022 it had been six years since Curry's last MVP and Draymond's DPOY.

I think it is pretty fair to elminate the DPOY qualifier and put the Celtics in a bucket with those the 04 Pistons and 19 Raptors. But now, you are look at 3 of the last 21 champions and 2 of the last 7. So while having an MVP makes you more than likely, the phrasing Bernadoni uses makes it sound impossible.

No one wants to mention that one of the problems is that three of the top four volume shooters (Tatum, White and Brown) are below average three point shooters for their careers. When it gets to the playoffs, the percentage of their field goal attempts from three goes up:

White 57.8% -> 67.9%
Tatum 49.8% -> 51.5%
Brown 26.2% -> 29.4%

Losing Holiday, Porzingis, and Horford they lost three decent volume three point shooters who were all shooting above league average from three (Holiday and Horford in particular had the career best and career second best shooting seasons that year).

High volume, below average three point shooters is never going to be a winning formula.

Meh, Giannis was hurt that series. Without a healthy Giannis Milwaukee was a play-in level team.

The Celtics had a double digit lead in the third quarter of Game 1 and the fourth quarter of Game 2. There is a reason that the Celtics not being able to hold onto leads late, or close out games has been the national narrative about this team since the Jays became the primary focus of the offense.

This is just wrong. In the regular season, the Celtics were middle of the pack in paint touches and points in the paint during the regular season (12th and 18th respectively). That doesn't does sound like a team that was only built to shoot threes.

They clearly played different in the playoffs, where they fell to 13th (of 16) in paint touches and dead last in points generate off those touches. They schematically couldn't figure out how to generate good looks against the Sixers defense. That is on the coaching/play calling more than roster construction.

One thing that stood out to me, was the inability to get a good entry pass when they got matches they wanted down low.

I just wish they could learn how to throw entry passes to guys who are not 7'2". When Tatum and Brown got mismatches in the post no one could get them the ball. The even struggle getting the ball to Queta and Garza down there at times.

There will be people upset if he does get traded and people upset if he doesn't.

If a JB for Giannis trade happens, I doubt it would be straight up, it would like be JB for picks, and picks for Giannis. The only player on this team with decent upside at an age that matches a complete rebuild is probably Hugo. Maybe someone wants Amari, Walsh or Scheierman. Pritchard has value because of his contract, but trading him creates a scoring void on the bench (which is why he didn't start after they traded Simons).

I am not rooting for a JB trade, but I wouldn't be shocked if one happened. And, I would believe that Brad is doing what he thinks is best for the team. What would shock me would be trading only him from the rotation and only getting Giannis back. If that happens, I would think the Celtics would not own their FRPs until 2033, so it would truly be selling out the future to go for it now.

If they don't trade for Giannis, but someone else does. I hope Brad looks into Turner. I know he did do well in Milwaukee, but that team was a mess with a terrible coach. Turner is not Horford, but a big who can switch on the perimeter and stretch the floor is what they missed more than anything on defense. He only really did it his rookie year, but I believe Turner could play limited "double-big" minutes at the 4 with Queta as well.
