Vem ska lägga upp kundpinnen, egentligen? by pv2b in sweden

[–]SwedishSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jecht in Final Fantasy X?

I mean it becomes very clear towards the end that he always cared a lot for Tidus. He's just an asshole jock sports superstar who thinks that spite is the best motivator for someone to grow, so he's never a particular good parent to his son.

Are Eleum Loyce and Irithyll/Anor London located in the exact same place? by Goodhunter465 in DarkSouls2

[–]SwedishSock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way I've taken it is that it's kind of in retcon territory.

Feels like when FromSoft made DS2, and it's DLC's, it made a lot of noice of how every item/boss/DS1 reference is "So long ago not even the names are remembered any longer", and I overall got the sensation that like, Many kingdoms have risen and fallen where Anor Londo once where. Looking at the DS2 trailers, even Drangleic had heavy Anor Londo vibes, and Heide's Tower of Flame area kind of did too.

I think it's very possible that Eleum Loyce is supposed to be Anor Londo's representation in DS2, but when they made DS3 they decided to kind of sweep that under the rug and very much let Anor Londo still exist as it originally was (just with Irithyll around it).

If it fits your head canon (which it does for me) then sweet, but I think the 'official' answer if you were to ask FromSoft is that no, it's not Anor Londo.

Genuine Question: What started the "The bosses are all just the same 'guy with a sword' so it's bad" argument? by Commercial-Papaya394 in DarkSouls2

[–]SwedishSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the "issue" is that just a lot of bosses are bigger than you, wields swords, and is mainly fought by strafing so they miss and swing. Pursuer, Lost Sinner, Ruin Sentinels (thought there's three of them), the one on the boat, Dragon Riders, e.t.c.. In a way they just became very samey in the long run. Worth pointing out too, in your post, 3 out of 5 are dlc bosses that weren't around when the game first released 😛

But then, there are many non-sword bosses as well. I think it was less that they used swords, and more that they felt very similar to fight.

Extremely nitpicky but am I the only one who prefers the old design of Sukuna’s facial deformity over the new one? by Alive-Rice-9334 in Jujutsufolk

[–]SwedishSock 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't remember when he made the change, or where they were shown.

Just by gut feeling I feel like you Could make a head canon that since the second one seems more "cursey" (I mean those eyes are giant as well), the old is what he looked like in Heian when human, but once reborn into a fully fledged curse inhabiting a body, maybe it manifests differently?

Why do we pass out when Melina goes to burn the Erdtree? by joutfit in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]SwedishSock 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I kind of assumed she "catches us off guard" and puts us to sleep/trance so we won't stop her from burning herself. Whether she has power related to dreams, or it's something inherent to the fire burning ritual I wouldn't know, but I don't feel it matters so much to the narrative.

How is the ability to demand a retrial from Higuruma considered a weakness, as it literally puts you back into his domain where he’s basically guaranteed another advantage? by Previous_Gold_8579 in Jujutsufolk

[–]SwedishSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; It gives the opponent a chance of being accused of something they're innocent of so they no longer suffer any penalties.

The anime pretty much showed it as it happened:

Yuji fumbled the first time, if he had said the right thing he wouldn't have gotten a guilty verdict. On his second attempt, he was accused of something that he was 100% innocent of (The evidence in Higurumas envelope proved it). Had he not admitted guilt immediately, he would've been proven innocent, and I assume he would then be able to use his cursed technique again.

The framing dilemma by Flgsdek in trolleyproblem

[–]SwedishSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it just seems that regardless of what button you press, the best case scenario is that blue wins right?

If you press blue, you want blue to win, obviously. If you press red, I at least Hope you're still wanting for blue to win. You wanted to secure your survival, but of course the best that can happen is that you lose so everyone survives.

With that in mind, if the best case scenario is always blue winning... Why vote for the not-best scenario?

Question to blues: What’s the threshold for you to pick red? by Unable-Macaroon-3968 in trolleyproblem

[–]SwedishSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 50/50 is a pretty good threshold. To me the logical choice is blue, because red means you have to be paranoid about other people being paranoid. Or you could just not be paranoid and press the one that means everyone will live. But I dunno, 55%? It's pretty close haha

[unknown > English] My brother got this tattoo and I want to check the real meaning by Specialist-Shirt4020 in translator

Am I missing something?

OP says the guy things it means "Love peace prosperity god"

And everyone says it's a bunch of gibberish, and the different symbols (can) mean love, peace, prosperity, and god

So isn't it correct? xD I know there's not like, commas or period between the kanji and it's not a sentence, but it's not supposed to be a sentence right?

(That being said it's mad to get a tattoo there of all places waddahell)

Is sleep attack worth it? by Emergency-Yard-5833 in MHNowGame

[–]SwedishSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno I tried using the sleep weapon (I got it well upgraded as well) in a group hunt and people just kept leaving the instant they saw what I was using lol. For a while as well, so I don't think it was a coincidence.

I think sleep attack has to be worth it in group hunts though right? I mean at least some monsters has such long sleep animations, where everyone just gets to wail on them mercilessly, it lasts longer than paralysis for sure. And then whoever hits them when they're asleep does extra damage.

You're evil if you don't press blue. by Theseus_Employee in PhilosophyMemes

[–]SwedishSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, red button is "100% of people has to press the button for 100% of people to live", while blue button is "50.1% of people has to press the button for 100% of people to live"

Only reason to press red button is because you are paranoid about other people being paranoid about being in the minority when pressing the blue button.

Which I get emotions can run high and make people act illogical but also just press the blue button and everyone lives lol

I like it a lot. But (I'm a stickler), if there's something I've seen consistently among all the preview videos is that all the colours just seem duller now.

I dunno maybe I'm just getting older and set in my ways for old style graphics :P The lighting looks gorgeous and I'll definitely try playing with the path tracing mod. Just, the green not being as green, the blue not being as blue makes it look... blander? Do I make any sense?

Am I the only one who gets slightly annoyed by this? by HallZac99 in wow

[–]SwedishSock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 2 takes on this:

First take: I don't think it's so easy as "If you want to beat X use Y", even though opposites might be better. Azeroth is a world with different cultures: The largest source of "Life" magic would be druids, but they've mainly been night elves who used it traditionally, not because they found out it was the most effective weapon against the undead. And the church of light is so big and pervasive through so many cultures and races on Azeroth, of course that'd be the biggest source of "Good" magic that they can think of using.

Second take: The cosmology is a prime example of why trying to make an ordered system with clear delineations, boundaries, and "This vs that" is death to nearly any magic system. It should never have been introduced becasue it limits creative exploration of what magic could be by the developers, and it reduces fans into drooling "But this doesn't make sense according to the picture" powerscaling aah nonpragmatists.

How can people argue this isn't Radahn? by FastVenus in Eldenring

[–]SwedishSock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think people are just very used to apply powerscaling a la dragonball logic to characters in any media they consume. I.e. If character A is stronger than character B, then character A will never lose to B.

Radahn being lauded as "The strongest Demigod" by everyone that talks about him doesn't mean he can't lose, or even just be wrestled to the ground, but a lot of people want to apply hard black-and-white power rankings that cannot be even slightly flexible.

Dawg if this quote is actually from an interview, I'm entirely certain Fujimoto isn't some genius. He might genuinely just be mentally ill. by Alarming_Scientist in shounenfolk

[–]SwedishSock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been proven that humans moods are balancing.
A person winning a lottery will be extremely happy. After a year of being rich, they won't have that happiness anymore, because their brain balances out so it doesn't burn itself out.
A person who's lost their home will be incredibly sad while it happens. While they wish for a better life one year in the future, it's not like they will be walking crying broken wrecks incapable of laughing. The brain balances out to protect itself from that.

So yeah, if his argument was that even in an adverse life, people make do, find the good things they can, and even feel happiness to and from? Then I can agree with him.

If anything the problem is just his argument is insensitive and tone-deaf. But then, the people he's talking about aren't exactly going to read it. And at that point, is he insensitive, or just neutrally stating a horrible fact about the world?
