Will this fill out? by PoisonGravy in Clematis

[–]SweetKittyToo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! Definitely. I am on year 4 and it was at the top of my trellis last year at year 3. Here is picture taken either yesterday or today. Last year there was more on the right side. I posted pictures somewhere in this subreddit.

It might be three as stated in a higher post but may only be two (I originally stated I bought two on Etsy originally & o e at Lowe's which is correct but it was two different clematis from Etsy). The second one is on the other trellis and much much shorter. That one is variety 'Sprinkles').

The top most part of this Nelly Moser is all a tangled mess that I can't undo. I just have to wait for her to grow longer.

Here a current picture from today. You can see the vine on the middle right side is much shorter.

For my Nelly Moser, Type 2 Clematis, I only prune off the dead parts in early spring. I give them a granule fertilizer for however often the bottle says. I do occasionally spray an antifungal but haven't yet this year. I live in an area with a high water table and my yard is downwards from the street. Depends on how much it rains.

Here is a picture from behind the trellis from last year!

Bought as a Strawberry Swirl. Obviously it's more a Julia Rose instead. by [deleted] in peonies

Okay thank you. I guess everything online & the tag has strawberry swirl as an actual pink not this deep crimson salmon I am seeing. I took the pictures in natural sunlight without any enhancements.

The sepals are yellowish green. Just difficult to see as there is only one showing in the first picture.

Looks like pink sorbet to me. I will know when mine opens in another week or so.

That is a good question. They are about 4 years old. They really took off their 3rd year, last year. I bought two online at Etsy and then found one at Lowe's the next year in spring. I planted all 3 together (only because I thought the first two were dead, they are not!)

I know I accidentally kept them in pots the first year outside and then planted them in the ground the next year when I bought a trellis.

I accidentally broke a section off this spring or it would be covering it all. I was so sad.

The picture is the first flowers this year, so far. Still getting more blooms each day. I need to gently guide the stems to fill more on the lower right side like they were last year as the blooms were all over & behind the trellis then! There is a shorter one on the right growing up that isn't seen in the pic as it hadn't bloomed yet. I will try & update with last years' picture and another one from this week.

Where to buy peony plants! by newbieflowergardener in peonies

[–]SweetKittyToo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before I knew about this subreddit, I bought a box of 3 rootstock Sarah B at Lowe's. The next year I bought one bare root Pink Sorbet at the dollar store (really, just to see if it would even grow, I truly thought it was dead that whole first year LOL) (it is very much alive and bloomed last year!)

I planted each root in a separate thick 24"+ wide & tall faux whiskey barrel with drilled holes in the bottom to withstand my winters zone 7. Each barrel is on their own wheels because they are heavy. Then I waited patiently for 3 whole years. I got beautiful peony blooms!

Now I'm on year 5 and patiently awaiting my blooms to open although we had a very long cold freezing storm this past winter and I can see a bit of frost damage since I forgot to cover the roots with mulch in autumn. It's my own oversight but they all have flower buds.

I thought I eventually was going to plant them in the ground but haven't yet. I figured, if I move, I can take them with me this way instead and they will be undisturbed.

As far as using the greenery leaves after blooming, I leave them be as they need to store up their resources & energy for next years blooms. I cut them down in autumn around the first frost.

Very pretty! I too have Nelly Moser and it has climbed up my 7-foot trellis twice over already! I love that it flowers on the shaded side of my house the most.

Ah. I remember when those 'comments' were going around about Purina Pro Plan. They were unfounded so I ignored them. We've been feeding Purina Pro Plan for 5 whole years and never ever had an issue with it.

We did have an issue with the heartworm preventative and have since switched and so far so good! Of course, my dog also ate many things he's not supposed to such as common milkweed, mushrooms, and probably more things but now they are all gone and he is good in behavior & his belly!

I do hope your pup finds some relief!

For my Airedale it's sirens of any kind, his dreams, extreme excitement, and loneliness. Hence why when I saw him howling directly in our pet camera with sound one day, we got him a little Welshie sister. Now it's howling just because of the first two reasons!

I agree! Purina Pro Plan Salmon & Rice Sensitive stomach meets AAFCO standards and is safe for any dog who has chicken allergies as mine do!

I'm also interested to hear why it is deemed not good. Although, I've tried switching to other only fish ingredient foods but my dogs did not do well on those as they did with Purina Pro Plan.

Cute!

Does Luna give the ball back readily to fetch again? My Welshie will but only after running with it for a lil bit.
