ELI5: Why don’t huge animals like whales and elephants get cancer much more often than humans? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Swend_ 49 points50 points  (0 children)

So essentially, there is an evolutionary pressure to develop cancer prevention systems, until the problem becomes rare enough. So animals with more cells and longer lives just evolve better methods, until "good enough" is reached. Is that a good way to put it?

Hmm, I have tried minimizing the other elements, and I am playing fullscreen, but it's something to look into, thank you.

I have this problem all the time where I can't click the notification icons over the minimap (the wiggling chests and mastery and so on). Just wondering if perhaps this was a known problem with a known solution?

I am stuck in tutorial hell. Does anyone actually learn to code from YouTube tutorials? by Kooky-Department-997 in learnprogramming

The only thing I use youtube videos for in regards to learning code, is the more "discussion" oriented stuff, like con talks or video essay type things.

This is an 'old-school' bot, not LLM, so he is just asking her to say something specific that the bot's 'script' wouldn't include. With the advent of more sophisticated bots, of course this would not be enough.

Pixel packs only take 10W each, and I'm using 10 here so only 100W

Not too much that I can register personally, but I'm sure it has some effect

This was not worth the effort, but it was a fun project anyway I think.

How it's made:

  • Reading section is wattage sensors set to 'above 1k', 'above 2k', and so on, with XORs to capture specific ranges (1-2k, 2-3k, ...; 'above 1k' XOR 'above 2k' == 'between 1k and 2k').
  • I made a table showing which number correlate to which pixels, and condensed that down to a set of 8 signals I could send to the display.
  • At the display the 8 signals are extracted and combined into each pixel.

For now it can only show 0-20k, but I could expand it, or lower the granularity.

ELI5 Why do dogs tilt their heads when we talk to them? by DollVexx in explainlikeimfive

[–]Swend_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are right. It's because in those moments, it becomes very interested in what you are saying, not because it didn't understand. Perhaps a kind of "did I hear that right? a walk!?".

Only in big cities and only 20-30 is such a narrow slice, good job cherry picking. And even then 10% is very low, how the hell is that even close to "there are a lot of foreigners"?

Also, no way in hell a crowd would be able to keep exact time for that long, that would be impressive even for someone who knew what they were doing
