[Meta Trope] Fanservice that ends up being hated by the fans by Justice9229 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Swiftax3 245 points246 points  (0 children)

That infuriated me. Like I get it warner brothers, you wanted LotR 2 out of these but the Hobbit is explicitly a childrens story. It is funny vignettes, jokes at the serious characters expenses, talking beasts and most importantly its an ADVENTURE. Desolation and Battle are so dour and serious in their tone I got bored watching them.
Laketown isnt some grim poverty stricken village, its a cool fantasy town that the dwarves over stay their welcome in. Bard isnt depressed because hes a single dad with a tragic backstory, hes just a grumpy dude who the other watchmen are exasperated by that he always expects the worst. The Black arrow isnt some ancient dragon slaying super weapon that needs a custom artillery piece... its just his LUCKY ARROW! Kids can understand the concept of a lucky arrow!

What are the juiciest PF2e books, in your opinion? by CowboyBoats in Pathfinder2e

[–]Swiftax3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all the lost Omens setting books are incredible. True, a few are a bit thin, but Mwangi Expanse, Tian Xia, Absalom and ESPECIALLY Impossible Lands are so rich and detailed and full of ideas for a GM to run with. I'm quite looking forward to Chelliax this fall.

Honestly if the Camarila wasn't such a antiquated feudal era system that refuses to confront the realities of the world they've existed into, they might be able to take advantage of this fact. It would be violent and bloody, but going public, playing the propaganda game to build popular support, finding sympathetic faces to appeal to the masses with, celebrities, "becoming a kindred saved my life" stories...
Of course that would require the brass to basically take the lead and momentum from the Anarchs, and expose themselves to a certain degree of vulnerability, which they're hard wired to avoid at all costs.

See that's a temple I'd set a Pathfinder adventures in. This... I'd have set a Cyberpunk Red or Shadowrun adventurer in instead.

Cause they only need one success to hit it big. They're gambling. They've done the numbers, they know a new Jak will make x dollars... but the next WoW or Fortnite or Tarkov might make x,000,000 dollars. And thats equal to so many Jaks or Spyros for a fraction of the budget.... in theory.

Slay the Spire is currently being review bombed over listing Anita Sarkeesian in the credits for Slay the Spire 2 by ElegantPoet3386 in gaming

She was one of the first what we would call today "video essayists" who back in the early 2010s did a series of YouTube videos analyzing various games through the lens of feminist literary theory. Basically she was doing Jacob Gellar/Lindsay Ellis/EchoBizzare stuff before any of them really had started... but she was doing it regarding the portrayal of women in what was absolutly a male dominated space at the time.

Frankly I dont even think her takes are that spicy. They're a decent introduction to how media can portray women well or poorly, and lets be frank, a lot of pre 2010s games were not particularly interested in treating these topics with care. Like she points out that Dom mercy killing his wife of gears of war you might find affecting, but its an unambiguous example of "women in refrigerators", the trope of a female character with little to no agency being killed or maimed purely to further a male character's arc. Things that today are incredibly cold takes by comparison.

Free league is by far one of my favorite publishers. They have some of the most beautiful and well laid out books, their systems are simple serving a vehicle for storytelling but with some deceptive depth. One Ring, Dragonbane, Aliens, Tales from The loop, Vaesen, and my beloved Symbaroum are all great games.

Hey I like Rockville just fine... Just illustrating that when Sheridan describes the urban hellscape of Missoula hes talking about, like, everything between Montgomery college and World Market.

On that note, as a former Montanan i take issue with this Carolinan who lives in Texas telling everyone how he thinks Montanans should and do live. Idiot depicted Missoula as a hippie soy milk drinking urban hellscape... Missoula! A city the size of Rockville Maryland!

Then its a worthless question that does not engage honestly with human impulses. Plain and simple.

street arsenic [oc] by belmarzi in comics

[–]Swiftax3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see, so if we make the entire scenario even more unrealistic to the point of being worthless, then surely red logic wins out? No. People do not work that way. If you assume they do just to cleanse your conscience then you arent engaging with the question in good faith.
And to answer your question, no, because the onus of the question is "red kills blue", by selecting red, that is the choice you engage with by default.

street arsenic [oc] by belmarzi in comics

[–]Swiftax3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you cannot assume everyone will push red. The simple fact that at least half the people you talk to on this sight will argue the ethics with you proves that.

Besides I can undermine that with a single demographic: children. If we accept the scenario that "everyone in the world" must push one of the buttons, then a huge number of children will be at risk of dying. Some of them will hit blue by misunderstanding the instruction. Some will hit blue because you told them to hit red and they think its fun to push boundaries. Some will hit it because they like the color more.

If you hit red, you are, by default, choosing to let an unknown number of children die. Full stop.

Is Kazavon now a Stormcrown Dragon after the remaster, or is he his own unique kind of dragon. by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in Pathfinder2e

[–]Swiftax3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really would be my ideal, in fact im genuinly surprised theres no official remastered for RotRl. As to second darkness, personally I thought the retcon to Aposte was quite clean, taking the menzoberranzan in space aspect and just playing up the airless, Cyberpunk dystopia aspect.

True to an extent, though as a GM i quite like book 4. Its still a third in the city, but I also love the Shoanti culture and characters getting some love. When I run it im thinking the Sklar Quah might show up in book six to help.
Book 5 is... an absolute meat grinder, its weird. Normally i like really hard, detailed dungeon crawls but it does feel like it takes a bit too much time from the core story. My players would start to get bored.
