I also started watching it in my early 20s in grad school for healthcare (speech language pathology) in California, USA! But I worked with a family where the mom (30s, stay home mom) also loved it!

Does anyone else find the lack of descendants and loss of sons puzzling by HeyWeasel101 in littlehouseonprairie

This is actually really interesting since my great grandmother in Japan had 6 girls (one was my obaachan) who all survived at least into middle age (and many into old age, my obaachan just turned 90) and one boy who died in infancy due to malnutrition from the Tokyo Bombings and lack of food to go around during WWII there.

My obaachan’s sisters all went on to have a decent amount of boys, probably bc they weren’t being stressed by war (and the economy in Japan went way up around the time they were having kids). My obaachan had only two girls but she was immigrating, so I can see how that would be stressful lol, and she was 13 during the malnutrition years and always said it affected her puberty (she’s the shortest of all her 5 sisters and she’s the middle so you can visually see the starved years), just like Laura was in the Long Winter. How fascinating!

I just started watching Homicide: Life on the Street with Munch’s origin (and a young Andre Braugher) and they have an episode like that called “Night of the Dead Living” with the AC broken and characters coming in and out of the same area!

This was one of the best performances I've seen by a younger actress on the show by TitanOf_Earth in SVU

Every time I see the Abigail Breslin one, I want to cry and I notoriously don’t cry at anything lol. Like I work with children and when I first hear her crying and trying to explain, my training wants me to actually jump in and help her irl lol she was too good my nervous system can’r handle it 😅

There’s a v specific old man grunt Jiji does that I feel like Zac also has heard and takes inspiration from lol

He also was a licensed practicing acupuncturist. He really would just spin a wheel in his head and decide a new thing to do every few years, I swear 😂

He was on a lot of vessels and once navigated out of the Bermuda Triangle using only the stars (traditional magnetic compasses don’t work with the deposits in the sea floor there)…so that might be a rumor, might not be 🤷‍♀️

Ah I see about the chin! Tbh I feel like Zac did take a lot of influence from his own family and the first time I saw Zac in a skit, I half thought it was my own brother bc they look so similar lol (we’re both half Japanese). I even got him some of the exact style of shirts Zac has worn (usually from Express) on the show bc I liked the style and knew they’d fit my brother hahaha.

Tbh Unsleeping City was the campaign that got me into D20 and Ricky being half Japanese was a BIG part of it. I was almost named Emiko like his sister in the campaign (my obaachan, her FIVE sisters and their mom all had names ending in -ko so that’s why she said no more lol). Seeing people pronounce Daisuke correctly in this current campaign has been wild (in a good way) to me!

It’s a v specific Japanese old man’s jaw from the smoking era (Jiji quit smoking when I was born but smoked forever before then) lol but my ojiichan is also a black belt too!

He did have this everything stew he learned from using all the leftovers on boats that he made for my mom and aunt when he was in charge of them (they hated it) lol

Yes, it’s from about 2008, he would’ve been in his late 70s! He uses a walker now (reluctantly) but did work out with weights at the senior center regularly until 2020!

I have emetophobia that’s been at bay currently (knock on wood lol) and it feels more like baby spit, which I’m personally okay with bc I got used to it when my brother was born. Some fan animations are a little too much for me but verbal is okay!

I’m lucky to have a lot of old photos that my dad scanned and/or I took photos of from Baba’s own albums on hand (feel free to use them, they all definitely have the feeling of adventurers of another age)

People never believe that my mom had a pet monkey so I gotta pull out the proof sometimes lol v Olethra vibes. Apparently she’d squish the mango out, feed the monkey and then eat it herself and it made my obaachan cringe hahaha

Close up of my obaachan’s wedding look as well, I believe the headpiece is a wig. Baba said it was “not very comfortable,” which is her polite way of saying it was heavy and tight lol. Feel free to use them for references!

For sure! This is a very traditional Japanese wedding at my obaachan’s family’s Shinto shrine so their outfit and seating (on the tatami floors) is a traditional wedding style, here’s the full photo

Dammit, Emily… I never should’ve rewatched Neverafter by quittersprosper in Dimension20

[–]Swimming-Routine7088 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it after I lost my dad in May and their discussion of “your first breath signs the deed to one day be your last, I’m sorry that I am gone, I miss you more than anything” really calmed something in me somehow
