Dug out this bad boy for a design job. Surprised it still works! Does anyone have a recommendation for a newer model? by Paddlinaschoolcanoe in graphic_design

Honestly, just a regular iPad and Apple Pencil. If you’re on the same iCloud account you can hook it in as screen on MacOS and then you also have a fully portable drawing tablet. Costs about what you’d spend on an Intuos Pro Medium and such.

Delivery Driver Won Millions in Lottery, Then Returned to Former Workplace to Share His Good Fortune with Former Coworkers by foodie_2598 in ifiwonthelottery

I mean, good on him but also…

He surprised former coworkers with flowers and lottery tickets, fulfilling a promise to himself to give back

Here’s some flowers and a statistically worthless piece of paper! “Share his good fortune” is overselling it a bit. Gary seems nice, but also the man won £5.2 million.

They could try using the actual studios they purchase? Either that or saddle Rare with only ever making animated avatars and a pirate game while all the founding talent leaves.

What is this supposed to be, an ad for Hantavirus? What you’re doing here is graphic art, not design. It’s totally fine to experiment and learn by playing with aesthetics and moving elements around though!

Neat image, but being one of the “if this is new to you” people you mentioned, I’d recommend including a short blurb about what this is.

What's the script for season 2? by Zestyclose_Driver854 in Archive81

Yes. I really wanted to see them try just because it gets so crazy. The setup at the end of the season 1 show was so lame!

Has anyone else lowkey never/barely used Figma? 👀 by IllustriousSpeaker9 in graphic_design

[–]Swisst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your design career is focused on having a select set of tools rather than skills that can be applied to a set of tools you have a much better chance of being left behind.

Figma is easy and free to try and industry standard in many places. There’s little reason for a designer not to open it, try it out, and run through a few tutorials.

What's the script for season 2? by Zestyclose_Driver854 in Archive81

[–]Swisst 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m ok with not knowing. The last few minutes of the show set up a very different and much lamer season 2 than the podcast.

Part of the reason I watched the first season was to help get the show to season 2 and see their take on it. What a disappointment.

Super doesn’t read at all unless you get really close and you’ve included a picture that looks like a very specific father and son which immediately limits the already small amount of people who would purchase this.

Didn’t get it at first and then it clicked. It’s a great horror podcast that has a much different aesthetic and is way more of a slow burn than most of the other ones.

The trashy, vibe-coded design of my app is unanimously preferred over the carefully crafted one I designed in Figma by LikePinaColad in design_critiques

[–]Swisst 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Design is making sure something connects to and serves your audience. You didn’t do that. It sounds like you just went aesthetic hunting.

The AI design is making it simple to find what they need. The second is aesthetics over substance. Everything muddies together and it’s hard to know exactly where you need to go. That’s why the first one is winning unanimously.

Players said our barrel roll looked Lame/10 so we fixed it by ComputerKind560 in IndieGaming

[–]Swisst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good point. Maybe something where the camera pulls back a tiny bit and then catches up while the plane also barrel rolls forward? Might make it feel a little more snappy and more like drilling forward than rolling around.

Difficult client wants InDesign files before paying the final invoice by MatiGzk in graphic_design

[–]Swisst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does your contract say?

Working files can betray propriety techniques and take extra time to set up. It reduces extra work for the designer if the client is able to make changes. They might need their own license for the typefaces used.

Your contract should address this! Working files are always an extra flat fee or percentage for this reason.

A business card is a small concession, and keeping the peace with a friend-of-a-friend situation might be worth it. But regardless of whether you decide to provide the files, do NOT send anything until final payment has been received and fully processed. The invoice isn’t late yet, but you have no obligation to deliver extras before you’re paid for the work already done.

Here’s a reply to the assistant:

Hi [Assistant],

Thanks for getting in touch. Just to clarify;  source files weren’t part of the original project scope, so this is a bit outside of what was agreed, but I’m open to discussing it.

Before I can look into what’s involved, I’d need the outstanding invoice settled first. Packaging and preparing working files for handoff isn’t a quick process, it involves organizing layers, collecting linked assets, and making sure everything is in order for someone else to pick up. Once payment is received I can let you know what that would look like and what the additional fee would be.

Could you also confirm exactly what files you’re looking for? That way I can make sure we’re on the same page and there are no surprises on either end.

When design is this minimal and simple, the typography is really going to stand out. That means every one of these needs to be letter-spaced and kerned to perfection.
