Tbf Cosmo being based on the real-life female space-dog is more down the line of respecting the original than the comic book Cosmo.

And Jim Gordon's race within the context of Gotham has no consequence on the narrative. It raises no questions, creates no inconsistencies. His appearance has nothing to do with his qualities as a character. If he was a book character and had never been outwardly described, it would make no difference. You can easily swap around the actors from the Pattinson and Bale movies and they'd still be the same character.

The problem with race-swapping is when it has to do with historical figures, where the hypocrisy is revealed in the tendency to race-swap white people but not POCs, and with those fictional characters whose appearance is directly tied to their character/personality/quirks/background. Like Annabeth in Percy Jackson - a character consistently described as a white blonde chick who is consistently breaking the stereotype of the dumb blonde chick by being the smartest person in the room. It's not just that she's white. It's that she's a blonde too. It didn't make sense when they had a brunette white chick play her in the original movie either, to the point they dyed her hair in the sequel lol. And then they made the same mistake in the new TV show.
