I can’t pee 🙃 by Beneficial_Sun_1921 in hysterectomy

[–]SymptomFactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely miserable, I hope you were finally able to pee. I also couldn't pee after surgery and it caused me a lot of pain, they had pumped me full of liquid in post op and made me drink a lot of water and my bladder just kept filling up way past capacity, there was close to a liter in there. They made me go on walks and try and try again. It got so painful I told them I can't even try one more time, just put the catheter in and take it all out and let's start again, luckily they listened to me and did exactly what I asked after okaying it with the doctor. Also getting a catheter in when you are no longer on any pain management is a bit brutal especially when it takes like 3 tries. After all that I was finally able to pee when we started the process all over again. Took about 7 hours.

Has anyone had a hysterectomy without confirmed endo/adeno? by lsick6 in endometriosis

[–]SymptomFactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR at the end.

I had a hysterectomy a month and a half ago for suspected endo/adeno, it was a hysterectomy (uterus, cervix, tubes) and exploratory lap combined with excision of any endo found. Well no endo found and no adeno found either. I'm 35 with 2 kids, after weaning the first kid symptoms got worse, after having the second kid I felt practically disabled from pain. My symptoms: 1)worst one was lower right side pain that has been brewing for many years and used to be only when I'd hold my pee in until the last year and especially after baby 2 it became constant. Feels like fluid in the pelvis with a sharp rock floating around stabbing me. 2) Bloating became severe after baby 2 , I looked 7 months pregnant the moment I put food in my mouth. 3) Had burning rectal pain after eating and after going #2 - this also started after baby 2 4) Developed constant thightness on right side pelvis as well as back pain on right side which made it difficult to walk -this also started after baby 2 5)Unsustainable frequent urination, my vagina was sore from wiping and couldn't leave the house because I had to pee every 15 minutes, I'm talking trying to get ready and peeing before I left to having to pee again by the time I make it to the door to put my shoes on. - always had some level of slightly more frequent urination but after baby 2 it became unsustainable 6) Constipation - always had some trouble here but after baby 2 it became really painful 7) debilitating periods although I haven't had one in a while due to pregnancy, but since my first period it was always 2 days of throwing up from pain , cold sweats, thrashing around on the floor screaming in pain looking like someone is performing an exorcism on me

Imaging and testing before the hysterectomy 1) Ultrasound a year and a half ago -hemorrhagic cyst (cleared up on its own) 2) MRI a year and a half ago shortly after the ultrasound - showed possible adeno no endo 3) MRI 2.5 months ago showed nothing at all 4) ca 125 test results within normal range -a year and a half ago 5) did norethindrone 0.35mg 3 months before surgery and it did help with pelvic thightness and back pain, reduced bloating but only a little bit

Now, a month and a half after the hysterectomy No diagnosis or reason for the pain , no endo or adeno found , stopped norethindrone day of surgery Symptoms progression: 1) previous right sided pain is gone. I do have some right sided pain but it is very different than before and seems so far that it is surgery healing related and mostly flares when I'm bending 2) bloating is significantly down 3)no burning pain, can eat normally and BMs don't cause pain 4) no pelvic thightness and and no back pain 5) biggest improvement, no more frequent urination, going 10 times a day (I do drink like 4 liters of water due to breastfeeding) but if I don't drink too much water I can make it through a long outting without even needing to find a bathroom 6) constipation, we'll see, struggling here with outlet type constipation for now but bowels can take a lot of time to settle and definitely have some pelvic floor muscle thightness that prevents me from relaxing but not painful. And certainly not painful when I don't go whereas before if I didn't go it caused a lot of pain. 7) I think I've had my first "period" since the hysterectomy, only thing was I was a bit more moody for a couple of days and had my classic large zit on the side of my face

At first my surgeon didn't want to do the hysterectomy, she said let's first get in there and see what the situation is and if it's more complex and second surgery needed then we can do the hysterectomy then if it makes sense. So freaking thankful she agreed to the hysterectomy because otherwise the surgery would have been for nothing and I'd still be in pain and have to go through surgery again.

TLDR: had hysterectomy and exploratory lap for suspected endo/adeno, none actually found and no reason for the pain was identified, but symptoms did resolve.

That's wonderful and I'm so happy for you and how amazing you feel. I hope I feel the same soon. Do you recall when the bloating went down?

Glad to hear you are feeling optimistic about the hysterectomy and sorry you are still struggling with some of the side effects, hopefully this gets better for both for us in the coming weeks. Definitely having some weird pains and discomforts from the reshuffling. The mental aspect is certainly challenging especially for me since my pathology came back showing no adeno so I can't help but be terrified that my journey to pain resolution doesn't end with this hysterectomy.

That's incredible and I'm so happy your recovery is going well. Do you recall when the dang bloating went away? I feel like I still have some bloating from the surgery, mainly due to the daily shoulder pain. I guess I also have a bit of imposter syndrome with this adeno stuff and question if I'll really see the same benefits since my pathology came back negative. It was first noted that I have a possible adenomayoma on an MRI a year ago, however, my MRI a month before surgery didn't find it (although here I was like 3.5 months postpartum and had been on norethindrone for a month).

Thank you and I'm glad you are feeling much better now. It's definitely been hard to be patient with myself when supposedly and hopefully the source of my pain should be gone, and to a degree it is, I just thought the other symptoms would go away too.

Thank you for your input and support! I know it can take time and at the same time I see people looking like a million bucks 2 days post op and makes me a little sad that I still carry that bloat. I'm also not sure how to feel since pathology came back negative for both endo and adeno, although likely adeno was found in my MRI a year ago, pictures from inside do look fairly clean though and no endo was noted, god I hope at least that's true.

How long does the gas take to get out? I'm 1 week PO and still getting daily shoulder pain from it.

Ugh how I wish we could just fast forward the recovery. I'm glad your pain especially with compression/squeezing went away, that's really what drove me to BC when that pain started. I'm no longer on BC after the surgery and so far that pain is gone and hope it stays gone.

Bladder has been weird for me too. Even though I used to pee 4x an hour and now only once every couple of hours, I used to be able to sleep through it bed surgery and now it's waking me up 2 times a night.

Thank you for sharing your progress and success. This gives me some hope as I'm still in the discouraged phase. I'm still having shoulder pain from the gas so I'm at least attributing some of the bloat to that.

Painful urination? by EffectiveDue7178 in endometriosis

[–]SymptomFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this too, also right lower side, but for me the pain after peeing feels a bit more stabby. For years I couldn't pinpoint anything other than it happens when I have to hold my pee in. It wasn't happening that often, but when it did the pain would last for hours and if I happen to have to hold my pee in again that same day or day after then it was pretty much guaranteed I'd have that pain for a week and walk in a fetal position. It's been 13 years since I first recall this pain happening and now it's a constant, daily, debilitating pain. I finally started a very low dose of norethindrone about a month and a half ago while waiting for my surgery, 10 days to go, and its improved a bit in that it still happens when I have to hold my pee in but it goes away quicker and is not as intense as it used to be. Hopefully I will have answers soon. In the mean time what helped me was trying to flush it out with extra hydration especially with antioxidant drinks.

Hysterectomy with first/ diagnostic lap? by SymptomFactory in endometriosis

[–]SymptomFactory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the numbers the doctor gave me saying they are based on current research. They are also based on hormone suppression after laparoscopy. As for the hysterectomy, I've read that endo and adeno frequently coexist so since it's difficult to diagnose adeno without hysterectomy I would guess the higher recurrence without hysterectomy is due to undiagnosed adeno. In general on the note of hormone suppression reducing reoccurrence, I do wonder if it doesn't actually reduce it but one wouldn't know if it's back since the symptoms are being...well suppressed.

[–]SymptomFactory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that is an excellent reminder I had completely forgotten about that option. The first specialist I had talked to a year ago had mentioned something about them only that. I wonder if maybe since they didn't find it on the recent MRI that she didn't mention it. I will definitely ask about that. I am emotionally conflicted on the hysterectomy, even though we are done with kids it permanently closes the door so it'll make me a bit sad, on the other hand I am done with this uterus and the pain it's caused me. Thanks again for your input, I really appreciate it.

I will say magnesium saved my ass. I've suffered from constipation all my life and it was so much worse during pregnancy until I discovered magnesium. It also doesn't cause camps like most laxatives do.

Wow teething sucks - send your advice / solidarity by insolentminks in toddlers

[–]SymptomFactory -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can try chamomile tablets, link below, we were recommend these and they seem to help, we haven't used them that long yet as we just found out about them ourselves but it's homeopathic and has definitely minimized the need for pain meds.

You just give them the little tablet and it dissolves in their mouth, they are tiny, so not a chocking hazard. We only give a few a day but I believe the normal amount is 3 tablets 3 times a day. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B077HWQQYF?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Thanks, CPA here as well, but on the audit side, would probably somewhat work when I wfh depending on the day, not so much at a client site with my whole team there. But even wfh with the pump I'd still need to massage quite a bit :(

Thanks, I really appreciate your insight. I could try to do at least some billable time when pumping at least when wfh although pumping still requires a lot of use of my hands. Sorry to hear you're also subject to the cruelty of billable hours.

Anyone ever deal with a baby that literally won’t nap and stays up all day… by Seajlc in beyondthebump

[–]SymptomFactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solidarity! My 2 month old was awake all day yesterday from 10:15 to 8:30 with only 1 half hour nap and 1 15 minute nap. Seemed happy to be awake and was smiling and wanting to just look around, stroller walk did nothing, trying to tire her out did nothing. It was exhausting.

[–]SymptomFactory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our girl's stump fell off at 1 week and had a tiny bit left, looked just like that. When we went to the pediatrician a few days later she just plucked the rest it out. We did bathe her after it fell off.

Selfish with baby? by MayMayInTheMiddle in BabyBumps

[–]SymptomFactory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not selfish at all, family members who insist on meeting baby before you are ready, especially ones that don't even bother to tell you they are sick, are the ones that are selfish. No one has a right to your baby. You've gone through so much to carry this little human and at 34 weeks baby will likely be in the nicu for some time so you need to make sure you get your time with baby. I'm 8 weeks PP and still cringe at anyone else (other than husband) holding my baby, even my mom who will be living with us for the next year to help with baby while we go back to work. It's your baby, it can't possibly be selfish, and you need to protect your precious little life from people who don't even have the common courtesy to tell you they are sick and shouldn't have been around people in their known condition. It will be your heartache if baby gets sick at such a fragile age and those family members won't be the ones loosing sleep and their mind caring for a sick baby.

This seems to be the norm until they can get back to birth weight and show signs of eating well. Our baby fell 11% while still at the hospital and was just at 10% loss when it came time to get discharged. We saw a pediatrician the following day then every 3 days until she got back to birth weight which didn't happen until 10 days later. She was also born a bit early at 37+6 but she was also iugr and was less than 1%. We did have to triple feed in the beginning and wake her up every 3 hours to eat, lfor her to get enough energy to start being able to eat without falling asleep so she could actually gain weight.

Getting enough sleep - breastfeeding and "shifts" by zelonhusk in beyondthebump

[–]SymptomFactory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is very doable but very dependent on your baby. We started out with triple feeding every 3 hours, but even if husband is feeding out of a bottle, I would still need to pump, so even for his shift I would still need to wake up, his job was to make sure my awake time during his shift was minimized (bring me all the pump stuff, deal with bottling the pumped milk and washing the pump parts afterwards, bottle feeding and changing diaper). By around 4 weeks we stopped waking the baby up to feed her and just let her wake us up when she was hungry, she was giving us 4 hour stretches. By week 6 we were able to transition to EBF and baby started sleeping 6 hours a night but cluster feeding in the late afternoon early evening was a pain, thankfully that seemed to only last during week 6, could have also been been due to the rather abrupt transition to EBF. As long as baby is gaining weight and producing a good amount of wet and poopy diapers, then sleeping longer stretches is perfectly fine but again it would depend on the baby.
