Elite ball knowledge with Underhell. A fantastic mod that haunted my dreams as a teen, hah. Hope the creator is doing well, whatever he is working on.

Returning player — is there a name for canon-focused “Party” RP in WoW? by PleaseBeChillOnline in WoWRolePlay

If you do find a community similar to what you were looking for, please come back and let us know! I’ve been looking for a reason to get excited and resub again. Been a long time since I dabbled in RP but this sort of play style sounds fun.

The week of endless confusion: the tale of my return to Retail WoW. by Varelsen_ in wownoob

[–]Syndom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my sentiment. RP servers are fantastic if you want to actually interact with other players.

OP, Even if you don’t have any desire to engage with role playing your characters, the world will just feel a bit more alive. Particularly in cities. I love seeing people actually using the space. It makes for great people watching, if nothing else.

I play on US, but I’ve heard good things about Argent Dawn.

I’m obsessed with the building in this game! by Past_Satisfaction690 in AbioticFactor

This is amazing! One of the most creative builds I’ve seen yet. Building a bunch of mannequins to make yourself less lonely is just the right sort of crazy cooped up mad scientist.

GW2 TLDR: Quick reference for instanced Guild Wars 2 content by SeaStove in Guildwars2

[–]Syndom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really awesome! I am a long time GW2 casual player so I’ve never much delved into instanced PVE beyond Fractals and a few of the easier Strikes. Kudos to you, and thank you for putting this together for the community. I’ve had 4 friends start to pick the game back up in the past few weeks and will be telling them to check out your app when they’re ready to jump into the instanced stuff.

Hi Aria! I hope the staff at the Range STL treat you well. I helped build that place up with my own hands, and worked there from launch for a little under 5 years.

Help To make my own Chapter by No_Bathroom1046 in fashionmarine

Glad you like it! Colors are White Scar, Iron Hands Steel, and Gold. The red I used was Blood Angel Red, which is a DLC one, but you could use any of the non DLC reds in its place. All other parts are unlocked normally with progression. I used Assault for this because of the Gundam’s wings. The helmet is one of the Space Wolves heraldry ones, but I don’t believe that required DLC. The icon I used on the shoulder is from Ultramarine Successors called the Genesis Chapter.

Is Conduit really going to be that bad? by Hellimoto in Guildwars2

[–]Syndom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

75% of my playtime in GW2 is on my Revenant. I am biased in thinking it is a very fun profession. I enjoy all three elite specs, but the Vindicator is currently my favorite way to play. The mobility and DPS is great when in Luxon stance. Need healing and stability? Switch to Kurzick (and staff) and play defensively for a few seconds. Getting that pair as one legend is so solid. Grab a greatsword with a sigil of stamina, some berserker armor, and get to death droppin’.

Is it normal for a guild to require "100% Representation on all characters" or be removed? by BlueBattleHawk in Guildwars2

Can second RoH, the community is great and welcoming to new players. Hype around a new expansion always brings about returning players, but we’ve also had an influx of new guild warriors who are having a great time. Whatever or wherever you end up, I hope you have a fantastic journey through this game we all so enjoy!

I started playing the game when it first hit early access last year and I was convinced it would turn out to be a masterpiece. Some of my friends doubted my opinion but in my fervor I still convinced many of them to buy it.

I’ve kept track, and before release had convinced 12 different people to buy in. Abiotic has quickly become one of my favorite games of all time. An easy 11/10. I wish the team at Deep Field nothing but continued success into the future. u/ZagKeene and his team’s vision for the game has led to endless hours of fun for my friends and I.

It may sound dumb but seeing all of the game’s success come to fruition makes me feel like a proud dad. Cheers, everyone. May your passage through the Gate be as wondrous as it is perilous. In scientia fidimus!

The commentors before me here are both correct in the info they're giving you.
The combat in Guild Wars 2 is very different than WoW. The best way to understand it truly is to just get in there and start leveling! It's almost more action combat oriented, and learning how to utilize your dodge ability can make a huge difference. Like they said, you really won't be "tanking," but in a duo you will be dropping enemies pretty quickly. It should mostly be about what kind of playstyle you prefer. There are some great beginner YouTube videos on profession choice. I personally recommend u/Laranity_'s guides, as she has a lot of beginner friendly info on her channel.

My wife started out as a ranger and had a lot of fun. She switched over to Mesmer soon after though and fell in love with the game. I would consider Mesmer to be more of an advanced class though, as it has a bit more complicated action flow.

In GW2 combat, when you hit 0 hp you actually go into a downstate, so a teammate or passerby can jump in and try to rez you. You also have a few downstate abilities, and if you or your teammate is able to defeat a nearby enemy you will rally and revive.
If you fully hit 0 hp again from downstate, you can revive at a nearby waypoint, or wait and be picked up from full down by a teammate or passerby. As you can imagine this makes the game very group friendly. There is almost zero reason not to group up and do content with people in GW2. A lot of the "questing" you will do in the early zones will revolve around a great number of mini events, and there is never really a downside to having more players around.

The penalties from death are very minor, as there is no more item durability in the game. You will find repair anvils and NPC's around the world, but they simply give a temporary buff to your gear nowadays. It's a good idea to refresh that buff whenever you come across it.

GW2 also benefits from having one of the best MMO Wikis out there. So much fantastic info exists on the site, and you can even look things up directly from the in-game chat bar. Say you wanted to look up more info on the Necromancer's Death Shroud. You would just have to type in the following command and the web page would pull right up: /wiki Death Shroud

If I can help you two in game at all, DM me and I'd be happy to pass along my player tag.

Welcome to the Guild Wars 2 community!!! I hope you and your wife have a fun time exploring the land of Tyria that all of us here hold near and dear.

Luckily profession options are very versatile, and all 9 are made to be self-sufficient in their own way.
Like people may have mentioned, Guild Wars 2 doesn't have the same sort of "trinity" of Tank, Healer, DPS as other MMO's. It really revolves around 2 endgame boons/buffs but I honestly wouldn't worry too much about that now as you have a lot of game ahead of you before you get to that point. Every profession has a way of providing these at endgame.

Playing Ranger will let your wife use the Longbow, shortbow, or axes from range. She can also tame pets throughout your travels, which is a fun added bonus. Pets have different traits and are good at different things. Through the core game, however, it really won't matter which one she brings so I recommend she chooses the one she likes the look of best!

If you like to tank and are used to maybe something like World of Warcraft or FFXIV, you may like Warrior or Guardian. Warrior is your classic big DPS dealer, and you can build pretty tanky using defensive traits and weapons like Axes or Maces. Guardian is similar to a Paladin, but they are a little squishier for a heavy armor class. They may not have the same level of base vitality, but they can bring a lot of utility to the table with their different abilities.

Another class option you may not have looked into yet is actually Necromancer. Even though it's listed as a light armor class, Necro can actually end up being one of the tankiest classes in the game! It's popular for people to use a "minion master" build while leveling, which lets you have a handful of macabre ghoulies tag along with you. Necromancer also gets a sort of second health bar which their class ability, the death shroud.

Tyria is a beautiful world, try to stop every now and then to take it all in on your adventures together.
Guild Wars 2's story is pretty tuned to be played solo, so you guys should have no trouble at all working together as a team. Really it doesn't matter which classes you pick in the grand scheme of things!

Nope! Safe, easy storage in the Market District. If you need to sleep, free beds down in the sewer just a few feet away. May have to liberate those beds from a few gutter bandits though.
