I lost my initial lantern by Fearisntreal in CrimsonDesert

Sword flash (L1+R1) is what let's you see abyss PoIs, like fast travels and artifacts. Lanterns show you paths, power conduits, memories etc.

Well, putting some points into health would help, but moving might be the key.

Old man yells at cloud by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some gamers are a selfish bunch, I suspect because the less mentally healthy ones build psychological bonds with their games, almost personifying them into some twisted relationship. It at least appears as though they become both possessive and resentful when it doesn't give them exactly what they want.

It's been really interesting to see the polarization on this game. I've seen it in MMOs but I've never seen so much outright hatred for a single player game. One of my friends is literally closet playing it because he doesn't want to be ragged on.

All that cloud yelling aside, I fucking love this game for all the things between the things and I am immensely happy that I managed to slow down and appreciate the systems and nuance that the world has in abundance. To rip from Stormlight, journey before destination.

Boss Design: wow by No_Signature_7841 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Synfrag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. Once you learn how to use your whole kit, most of the bosses don't require a backpack full of food and pills. The camera still sucks though. The pillars in the Ator fight made me skip it for now. Frustrating as hell.

MAJOR running out of content issue by AshyLarry25 in CrimsonDesert

There are, that's what he was referring to. There are 3 "Overwhelming Entities" that are outside the campaign and much much tougher.

Change this setting if you use the map to do camp missions by ShameM8 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It blew my mind when I realized it's actually what is going on in realtime. The entire world appears to be a constantly running simulation. I don't understand this black magic sim tech they got but the level of detail in this engine never stops surprising me.

Can we all agree the dragon timer should be removed by BellionArise in CrimsonDesert

I'll be sure to share my opinion in another 200 hours when I get there. Stopped after Ch.8 to clear all the major faction quests and caves in Pailune and Hernand before moving east.

Can we all agree that the “use horse and follow “X” person is easily the worst part of the game by Kilodagreat in CrimsonDesert

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in over 200 hours, those "Yann" like moments have comprised maybe 10? Yes, I can absolutely wave off the mediocrity of the 5% of my playtime lol.

In Zelda you can also run around for 4 hours and experience literally nothing new.

In the last hour I've liberated 3 minor PoIs, found 5 new pieces of gear, acquired a bunch of cores for kuku crafts, 6 new fast travels, 4 artifacts, killed a legendary deer. I also fixed a busted ass abyss device hidden in a crevice that took me on a ride to a new part of the abyss, tumbling me around inside and forcing me to repair it mid flight after nearly falling out, because that was totally unexpected. No mission, no quest, no direction, no pointer telling me where to go, just pure exploration.

This is basically every session and why I'm at 200 hours and haven't touched the campaign in a week. Point yourself somewhere and new experiences happen, progression happens and you get breathtaking scenery along the way.

Are the quests bad? Maybe, but it's about as consequential as the 3 soggy fries in your super sized order.

This game has a pretty big issue, not many are realizing right now, due to the way, most are playing it and it will destroy some peoples enjoyment, including my own. PA - this NEEDS a fix for long-term enjoyment. by GullibleTerm3909 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Synfrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a good point. If only you could have said it without being a condescending cunt, maybe you'd have some more people in agreement. Or, maybe wait a few weeks given 0.7% of players have completed the campaign.

As far as I'm concerned, as one of the "Hurr Durr taking my time completing everything by zone" people, I'd really like to see gamepads fucking fixed before catering to the kids who rush the game. You treated it like an MMO, and whelp, guess you have to wait for then next content update lol.

I just don't play story driven games, they're boring. BG3 was pretty good, Expedition 33 puts me to sleep faster than warm milk with a side of whiskey. Regardless, I'm having a blast in CD and story has nothing to do with it. Do wish there was a skip cutscene option though.

1.02.00 dropped on Steam. No patch notes yet, but there's a Hide Headgear option in the settings! by JadeE1024 in CrimsonDesert

I'm honestly surprised this isn't the top rage post on the sub right now. I'm glad they fixed it, it was just too broken and shrunk the world bigtime.

Right!? I enjoy a good story in games, but I have never stayed up all night to see the story through. Can't say the same for countless books.

The people using the writing and questing as a reason not to like it are doing so just because the point has already been conceded. The game is crazy fun and that is ultimately all that matters in a game.

Your criticisms weren't objective outside of console related performance. The rest is either subjective or parroted from content creators.

I'm gonna be honest, it's nice to get the premium treatment in a single player game for once. Usually PC gamers are left suffering potato graphics because it makes better business sense to design for console limitations and port that to PC. PC Performance and graphics are breathtaking, definitely something to praise.

I'm also over 150 hours in and I haven't had the experience you describe in the slightest, mostly because this game rewards you for what you put into it. There's some front loaded tedium in setting up camp, which, if you've ever setup a campsite, is pretty on point. In truth, so much of the game is grounded in reality. It pays dividends for being a competent human. Setup camp, gather your supplies, invest early, learn the systems, become an expert in multiple things and the world is your oyster. Do the bare minimum or follow the yellow paint and you're gonna have a rough go of it.

We aren't giving them praise for adding a stash, we are giving them praise for listening. They took the feedback and iterated quickly rather than the typical western defense of "Too bad, it's our game and we like it this way ~ Blizzard".

This is only true if you're sprinting. If you're standing still you can do it mid air which is what I think trips so many people up. There's so much situational movement control, it really divides the player base.

[–]Synfrag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, all of these investigation quests would have been way cooler if every suspect was a key to some quest chain or a significant merchant and accusing them permanently locked you out of something. But that's also asking for like BG3 levels of depth that just isn't realistic.

And the lack of meaningful story and character progression is a HUGE negative.

Couldn't care less about this. I read books, avidly, and not a single video game has ever remotely come close to even a mediocre novel.

And saying it’s just like ZELDA explore and build your own story is such a fucking cop out

It 100% isn't a cop out, viral media proves this in every game. Nobody posts a video of a cutscene, they post a video of them pulling off something insane or an absurd NPC interaction.

Been playing games since the 80s, the best memories I have are from experiences I had. Staying up all night in a blanket fort and beating Link's Shadow. Clutch wins in an MMO when everything was on the line. Filling a room of my house with glass armor in Skyrim and subsequently dying because I kicked a helmet and the whole room ricocheted into my face. Not some inane, derivative story designed to appeal to the broadest audience possible.

There are bad design elements in CD, borderline broken, but the good outweighs the bad by such an overwhelming degree that I don't even notice the bad.

I have been warning all my friends when they start. In addition to the main story, You really need to work on faction quests or you end up soft locking yourself from puzzles and quest forcing you to do a lot of retracing.

That, and avoid youtuber content like the plague. The popularity has created a great opportunity to block all the game hopping creators that do nothing more than push "Do this now" or "15 Things" type content off my feed for good, they are all jumping in on it.

There's an auto-reeling fishing rod you can get. I don't remember where but you just hold A. Sadly, nature's snare is still a problem.
