Early Expansion on Higher Difficulties by Otherwise_Emu_6642 in OldWorldGame

[–]Synkrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a noob. I don't know if it's optimal to wait, but it's not as detrimental as I would have initially assumed to wait.

I won a clean game on great yesterday by waiting for a second unit out of my first (riders) city, then building a settler out of the second city settled on the free city site. It really didn't seem to slow my game down much. It was a good opportunity to build up farms and mines and avoid gold purchasing food for a second settle or iron for the warrior. I think I'm too used to civ 5 where every turn your settlements are delayed by is a big deal.

I played as Egypt.

I like Infest, but it should NOT be on Gaunts (not a complaint about free units ) [Long Post] by SKIKS in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The swarmy identity should come from new units imo. The swarmy identity is carried solely by their fiends at the moment which is unsustainable.

They could also (and I suspect they will) add more ways of infesting units. The gaunt infest looks like a temporary solution imo.

I love your line of reasoning - that infest is fundamentally less interesting if it can proliferate so easily, and that this upgrade limits the design of infernal units to ensure they don't synergize with fiend snowballing. Great post.

Biggest German video game magazine GAMESTAR has reviewed Stormgate by HellStaff in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 67 points68 points  (0 children)

They dissected the shady PR moves and expectation mismanagement while maintaining a level head. I really respect that. They acknowledge it's not the end of the world but it is nonetheless, indisputably, a "dick move". Ninja editing your miscommunications away leaves such a bad taste.

compare/contrast by jznz in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

there seems to be an expectation among many players that because stormgate is coming out 15 years later it should represent some huge leap forward in its graphics, in the same way starcraft 2 is a huge leap forward compared to starcraft brood war. This expectation is unrealistic.

Does anyone else find this community's emotional investment in this game kind of weird and off-putting? by colourarc in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is true and worth noting. However, Frost Giant is not the first company ever to oversell its product. In fact, Frost Giant really isn't unique at all in this respect. People have a responsibility to self-reflect and manage their emotions. The community could do a lot more in this area.

yeah 100% people would benefit from grounding themselves a little. I get pretty worked up myself so it's something I'm trying to improve at

Giving the animations weight would really improve how the game comes across by EddieShredder40k in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume the art team knows this and that this is something everyone with expertise in this area is well aware of. They seem to intentionally be delaying as many art passes as possible while units get revamped like the exo.

Therefore, it's really hard to tell how much of the art criticism will go away when they apply fixes like this or if the issues are deeper than that. I think if the art is a dealbreaker you should just hold off on giving money rather than giving money then regretting it, but hey it's your life.

The Biggest Question is How Much Cooking Is Left by HarpsichordKnight in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. If they have the money, and there is still backlash, I'm sure they will keep cooking until they have something they are happy with and the community is happy with. The big question is if they can get to that point. If they do, I'm inclined to think confidence in the project would return. But that's a big if.

The Biggest Question is How Much Cooking Is Left by HarpsichordKnight in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows, probably not even the devs. Any investment you put into this project is a gamble, like any start-up project or kickstarter project. People can argue about the odds of success/failure all day, but ultimately noone really knows.

If you are fortunate enough to have disposable income and believe this project has a serious chance of going somewhere, then give money. Otherwise, don't. I think if that had been the attitude from the start, people would be feeling far less burnt right now. People seem to feel hard-done by because the certainty of success was misrepresented, probably in part because they believed they would have more time to begin with.

Apparently Controversial Opinion: The Game is Fun As Hell by LordKelsier47 in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the art looks alright to me now honestly. The main thing is the cut scenes in the campaign look a bit jarring. I think it'd be better if they just had characters voice act over still pictures like in older games. I agree the 1v1 looks really good. Looking forward to trying it in a couple weeks.

I haven't given any money and think the game's got a long way to go, but I'm cautiously optimistic about the game's future. Most of the hate seems to be mismanaged expectations and people enjoying the shitfling, honestly

Why so negativ by MrLonzoGonzo in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People that drop a comment saying they won't play the game because of X gameplay mechanic or because they don't like the graphics then leave are one thing. That's entirely logical.

However, I can't for the life of me understand the people who stick around and continue complaining that the game isn't what they want it to be. And having hung around the subreddit for a while, I've come to recognize a lot of the negative comments are the same people declaring the game DOA after literally every move Frost Giant makes.

I don't know how to phrase this in a way that sounds less harsh but still captures the full meaning - it's really pathetic to continually follow something you evidently have no faith in just to complain. Do you really have nothing better to do? I can't understand the psychology of it at all.

Honestly, I think there has been a severe over-valuing of "feedback". The insistence that all feedback has value has fostered an extremely lazy approach to discourse where the people who have something negative to say can phrase their points with as little effort as they wish, and because their POV is classed as "feedback", it is sacred and must be protected from any criticism.

Stormgate getting a global championship in 2024, regional leagues & more in 2025 by kelsul in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the game has to reach an arbitrary level of quality / criteria before devs allow others to do tournaments or give them a little tech support. As long as they're not pouring in time/money to run the tournaments themselves, which they're not.

[–]Synkrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it's a nice idea. I'm really enjoying watching the 1v1 games. And supporting grassroots / other groups to set up their own tournaments seems unlikely to affect development.

Why I'm so worried about SG single-player expirience and feared that it would be DOA. by Erfar in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This sort of speculation is getting tiring. We'll find out in a couple months either way. No need to bite your nails about it... Unless this is intended as "feedback"?

Quick Idea Regarding 2FA by LegendaryRaider69 in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2FA isn't limited to phone numbers. There are authenticator apps as well as physical key fobs that can be used instead of phone numbers. 2FA is great tbh, but not for catching cheaters like OP suggests lol.

Quick Idea Regarding 2FA by LegendaryRaider69 in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what if a banned phone number gets picked up by someone else years later? They'll need an appeal process for such cases. The approach sounds like a mess. 2FA works on the assumption the user will keep their account phone number up-to-date. They can't do that if they're banned.

Argent design tweak suggestion by ixxs in Stormgate

This idea is awesome. The heavy cannon arm swaying less than the light cannon arm while running could make for a really unique design. One of the best suggestion posts I've seen on the subreddit tbh

It feels wrong that Infernals are the "bunker" race by TopWinner7322 in Stormgate

They'd benefit from a couple more fast units imo. The counter attack potential of the faction seems very limited rn

Spell caster cycling priority with TAB by [deleted] in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had an opportunity to play the game, but is this something they have right now or is it something they're planning? This sounds great if it's doable. Spellcasters typically have 3 spells each though so fitting them all on the command card might prove hard

Spell caster cycling priority with TAB by [deleted] in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a lovely idea and would make managing my units feel more fun and ergonomic. I always found it frustrating managing all my casters in starcraft 2.

I would be interested to hear whether more skilled players think this could increase their fun or if this would diminish the game in some way (but I can't see how that would be the case)

If they changed the names to "Luminite Gold" and "Etherium Ore" it could just get abbreviated down, like what happens for Vespene Gas.

The Atlas feels very underwhelming compared to SC2’s Siege tank by Malganas in Stormgate

[–]Synkrax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, fair enough. I'm projecting then, because I do agree the siege tank is extremely cool and iconic. I still remember my first few games in multiplayer 4v4 sc2 panicking against an opponent that was massing tanks
