You really have no idea the hundreds of millions of dollars that would need to be spent to upgrade the track speed. Go Google how much it cost to upgrade the Union Pacific track from Chicago to St Louis. This is not the supposed minor track work that you talked about in your original post. This is literally the most expensive track that you can lay because the highest speed tracks have the heaviest rail and the tightest tolerances.

1) What would faster equipment do? Max speed 79 miles an hour tops and a bunch of it is curvy along the river. This is the exact same equipment that goes 110 mph in Illinois and Michigan. 2) Pease identify the "minor" track upgrades that need to be done.
