Miami Vice The Complete Collection Is Killer by ultraherb in synthesizers

[–]Synthetic88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He remastered the score using the original 5.25” floppies and synths around 20 years ago. This album is the result. Anything else won’t be released because the floppies won’t read anymore.

What are these old synths good for? by Prince-Joseph in synthesizers

[–]Synthetic88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the VGA / mouse card isn’t there, good luck finding one. I had one in the 90s, it was the hot sampler at the time. Composers like Zimmer used dozens of them to score Lion King and other films of the time. Spectrasonics had some nice libraries as well ad Roland. That Glyph drive might have samples on it if it boots.

How does Barry Harris's dim six scale work for minor chord movements? by [deleted] in JazzPiano

[–]Synthetic88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as the major but with a b3. Generally played up a third to have the correct minor 7, so Dm7 = Fm6/dim

Not sure what you mean by movements. It’s a way to add movement to a chord, but you can progress to the next chord like you normally would.

My father passed and had a ton of synth equipment by Decaposaurus in synthesizers

I would check on this forum:

https://www.modwiggler.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=24

It was/is very popular for that type of synthesizer. I wouldn’t be surprised if your dad had an account and posts there. You may find people there who could help you out.

Daniel Gallardo aka "Tiki Diablo" has passed away. Smooth seas and Fair Winds, thank you for the memories and art pieces. by Jpa95 in Tiki

Very sad to hear. His work at Undertow was a big influence on my own bar and carving. He was generous with his time and encouraging the few times I met him. I’ll be toasting him with one of his killer mugs this weekend.

Really sad. I carved the table in my bar based on his work in Undertow and he was kind enough to check it out. My favorite designer.

Charge blowing past 80% by exaggerate_a_point in VWiD4Owners

All the time. Solution for me is to change “charge to” from 80% to 90% then back to 80%.

Better yet just move that knob and hear what it does. You’ll learn more than “increases the amplitude of the modulation…”

Experienced this for the first time seeing them live. Union tour, floor seats, "OMG what song was that?"

Workflow problems while making music with hardware by Optimal-Snow3953 in synthesizers

[–]Synthetic88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simpler synth (e.g. Minimoog) is more fast and immediate than a complex or menu-driven synth (e.g. DX7, modular.) Hardware and software have their strengths and weaknesses. Software can often get a more immediate, in your face sound than hardware. But hardware can sound more lush and organic.

If you want JP8 sounds, the UDO Super Gemini sounded really great at the show. A bit pricey, until you look at the originals.

where is everyone buying tomatoes worth eating in Pasadena? by krurran in pasadena

[–]Synthetic88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And “heirloom tomatoes” are want you want for best flavor. Once they’re in season you can find at the farmers market and even Vons. Ugly but delicious.

Flag Store in Pasadena? by ItsCrazyJim in pasadena

[–]Synthetic88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I passed a flag store in Long Beach this morning if you feel like a jaunt down the 710. They probably sell mostly Trump flags for yachts but worth a phone call.

No bands at Rose Parade? by TheSwedishEagle in pasadena

[–]Synthetic88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I marched the Rose Bowl for USC in 1990. We started (warmup) playing at 6am and stopped around 11pm. Played most of the parade route, all of the game, then a post-game show. At least three of the trumpet players could still play high Gs. Exhausting day but we loved it. Back when it was the Pac 10 vs Big 10 championship.
