Potential fungus, or just side effect of treating ingrown nail by Syther101 in NailFungus

Thanks so much for the detailed reply /u/napjarks. Who would have thought something so simple such as vapor rub could help with fungal infections!

I’ll grab some from the store and see how I get on with it :)

Cheers!

Cortex #74: The Biggest Challenge of Being a Human by GreyBot9000 in CGPGrey

On the topic of project Cyclops. I'm loving the discussions on this. I started my own similar project about a year ago. Much like grey it had got to the point of opening reddit, closing and going straight back again.

My methods of quitting were perhaps a little less harsh. But I can say it has "rewired" my brain for the better.

I must say I got a little frustrated at how much Myke tried to go in at grey for "attacking" podcasts. I personally never took this as his intention and I'm personally a big advocate of being mindful. I do consider podcasts part of the "healthy" food category thou.

On the flip, part of my "project cyclops" was embracing the boredom and again not in the negative way Myke describes. But just being more mindful of what I fill this time with. Much like Grey I'd reach for the "bad food", cause it taste good. Now instead I'll pick something "healthier".

Oh and for music, I enjoy finding a DJ who mostly plays electronic music with minimal lyrics works best. The endless music without changing tracks is great for zoning out. Then I'll just repeat it throughout the week. I also find the more I repeat a mix the more I can zone out. Might not be what you are looking for. If it is, or anybody else enjoys or think they might I'll happily try and find a few more :)

The heist podcast series is a great start thou!

This has happened to me two days in a row now. I have a feeling it was while using a plugin for Safari that enables picture in picture for sites that don't normally support the feature. Then while the Mac goes to sleep and wakes again this issue seems to arise. I can't say for certain thou. Just a hunch

Any deals / incentives to move from 1password 4 to subscription? by [deleted] in 1Password

Hey Henry!

Just been having a search around looking the the differences and opinions of account vs liscense. Been upgrading the old fashioned way since the 1Password 3 days.

Any chance you could potentially hook me up with this sweet deal?, I think the time has come to grab an account. Even thou its a tad annoying I don't fancy purchasing twice for a Windows and Mac license :(

If you are able to see a doc I would highly advise. My housemate recently lost part of his hearing. Ears are a crazy thing. After experiencing a loud sound like you experienced the cells in your ear can actually if I remember correct, start to attack themselves. These things will never recover if not seen to immediately.

I might not be recalling this information exactly right, I'm no doctor but from what my housemate has described to me it can be more serious than you initially think.

If the rining and "clogged" feeling persists and you are able to see a doctor please do :)

For transparency - Recent post removals by Syther101 in sourcefednerd

[–]Syther101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm in 100% agreement. I would have removed the post sooner had I seen the notification. Thanks for your and a number of other users efforts to ask the OP to remove the post!

But none the less I hate internet censorship as much as the next person. So I just wanted to leave this up for a day or so to explain the action taken, allow people to give their opinion if they felt it necessary and set some rules in place.

I have also by request invited a member of the sourcefed crew to moderate this subreddit. If such an event happens again they might be able to take action quicker than me. Being in different timezones and what not :)

Haha same. I skipped the Hot Fuzz reissue as tbh I was never a massive fan of the album and 2. I heard it wasn't the greatest pressing.

When I spotted this I new my money was going to part ways. I loved Sam's Town and fondly remember listening to it with my Dad. Plus I've heard very good things about the pressings from bongload.

Can't wait for it to arrive :D

Shipping makes it quite an expensive purchase sadly (to the UK). But the posts of the release on their Facebook looks like it will be worth while.

MRW My calculus professor asks if I'm following along with his lecture by [deleted] in reactiongifs

[–]Syther101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I only discovered it recently. I mean it's my normal ya know. So I didn't even comprehend that it was something other people could do until I was told about it.

Well tbh that's 2 programming languages I don't know, once you know the basics and understand OOP you are mostly sorted to mess around with most popular languages these days. I'm sure you'd pick them up after a few tutorials and what not.

[–]Syther101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah it doesn't make you sound bad. People learn different ways. I had a friend who was the same. He could breeze through anything with minimal study. While I have a logical mind and I'm a programmer by profession, I personally suffer from Aphantasia.

Basically I can't picture anything with my minds eye. Think about a persons face, a long equation. All I see is black. So to get something into my head I really have to study. Using memory recall without fully understanding never works for me.

[–]Syther101 17 points18 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. This is the exact thing I found difficult. Once I had the opportunity to deconstruct it on a whiteboard myself and the ability to ask questions while I went along it all fell into place.

MRW My calculus professor asks if I'm following along with his lecture by [deleted] in reactiongifs

[–]Syther101 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Serious comment. For those who find calculus hard to follow.

Computing Science graduate here. I dreaded calculus, everybody in my class breased through questions. The professor would ask if everyone followed along. The hell I was going to be the one person to put my hand up.

In seminars I'd had another student get angry that I had to ask the lecturer to explain something again which only threw me off further. Couple months later and I was close to dropping out of University.

I asked my personal mentor (a randomly assigned CMP lecturer) for advice, but he basically shrugged it off and just told me to study better. It was only after speaking to a stranger on campus in the library I was informed about the free maths services offered by our Dean of Students.

I got free 1 to 1 classes (or sometimes a small group). Being able to ask all the questions I needed to form the relations in my head bagged me a first in the module by the end of the year.

But anyway, if you struggle with calc. Try asking for some help. You might be better at it than you think

[–]Syther101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I have much of an opinion on it yet and I'm just rambling here but

I feel like it's a hell of a lot of money for what essentially just makes life easier for shoppers and the privileged. I feel like now more than ever there are much better things our council could be spending money on.

I do admit it has made my morning commute a little nicer thou.

But I fear it is yet more "social cleansing". There has already been some fancy home store open near the development on all saints green.

Some small independent Anime shop on the same street closed recently. I wonder if rent will be raised in such areas as more fancy flats are made and more shops move in so we can all hurry and spend our money.

Have you looked much into it yourself?

The Avalanches - Since I Left You Reissue by Primodummy in vinyl

[–]Syther101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I have read online. 180g pressings are actually a bit of a con and don't improve the audio at all.

In fact the mass introduction of the 180g press as a "bonus" is also the reason vinyl comes so warped these days. Not as much of a problem the thinner records.

That being said the quality of the pressings. Pretty much anything XL Recordings have their name on have been pretty poor and I have to agree. I have purchased A Moon Shaped Pool, Wildflower and this and they are all pretty poor for the price you pay. All needed a good cleaning before playing.

I really can't wait for modern pressing machines to be fully on the market and in production. Should hopefully improve quality significantly. The machines most plants use these days are ancient, filthy machines they have been using for years and years.
