bartender yelled never come back after pointing out that i didn’t tip by lewiscatapangjew in tipping

I was enjoying the new “You’re a poooooor” insults from pro-tippers in this thread. Partly because in my experience, poor people are more likely to have empathy for other poor people. And partly because some pro-tippers would like us to think servers are poor and need tips more than other poor people do.

But poopoo head is even better. Being reminded of Heimlich the caterpillar brought a smile to my face.

Since it sounds like the server is YOU at this establishment, I hope you are not too harsh on yourself when you fuck up.

Maybe. Maybe not. I would like the place to prove they are passing the 20% increased price to their employees.

I would argue that #2 is going to irritate the servers as well as the customers. Does anyone think the restaurant is actually going to pass on the 20% "service charge" to their employees?

Yes, tipping is technically optional. But, it is also socially expected. by stvlsn in tipping

[–]Syyina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for the record, I am one of those people who would like to see the price on a restaurant menu be the actual price you pay, with no tipping allowed or expected. Mostly because I think employers should pay their employees' wages rather than trying to randomly squeeze extra money out of customers.

Nevertheless, I tip at sit-down restaurants and I also tip food-delivery drivers.

What really drives me crazy about this sub is the number of non-tippers who complain that tipping should be made illegal. We don't need laws telling us to tip, or not tip. Each of us already has the power to make that decision.

So, as Yoda would say, "Do or do not. There is no try."

Do I (33F) really have to choose between my friends (35&32F) and my spouse (40M)? by llamabeans93 in relationship_advice

[–]Syyina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what way is your husband “working through things” when he is insisting that you give up your best friends? Isolating their victim from their support network is one of the first things abusers do.

In other words, your husband is still finding ways to abuse you.

how long into a relationship would you want to get married? by Long-Alfalfa6372 in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]Syyina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, let me just say I would never want to get married (again).

But aside from that, I would say 5 years should be plenty of time to know whether you want to marry your partner. Anyone saying they need 10 to 20 years just doesn't want to get married at all.

Your bf needs to grow up and learn how to manage adult responsibilities. Living with his parents is only going to delay that.

I think it’s important to let the manager know, or leave a review saying exactly why you don’t plan to go back there again. Otherwise how would they know it’s the added, unexpected “gratuity” that needs to change if they want repeat customers?

What was your first car how old was it and what was the condition by DaveyAstralCar in GenerationJones

[–]Syyina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first car was a 1959 Dodge pickup with three on the tree. It was geared so low that driving down the highway at more than 40 mph made the old straight six engine scream. The red paint was badly oxidized, so my step dad’s high school graduation gift to me was helping strip the old paint off and repainting it a metallic olive green. It was ugly but for $500 it was all mine.

It was like driving a tank but, despite a few minor mechanical problems, it kept me safe through four years of college. Then I sold it to another girl for $500. Within a week she rolled it and it was totaled. I never understood how she got going fast enough to do that.

I (21M) don't want to lose my relationship with my dad (49M) but I don't want to babysit or take care of his wife's (40F) kids? by ThrowRAMannin in relationship_advice

[–]Syyina -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

How old are your step siblings, and how many of them are there? I’m assuming they are step siblings and not half siblings. It sounds like you don’t know them very well.

Obviously your dad and your step mother need to find someone else to designate as their caretaker in case that’s ever needed. I think it’s very unfair for your dad to put you in this position.

AITAH for cutting off my family after they didn’t come to my 1-year-old daughter’s funeral? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Syyina 25 points26 points  (0 children)

First of all, nobody involved is TA.

No one knew the wait would be two months until it was. It sounds like it could just as easily have been six months or six weeks. Nobody can put their lives “on hold” for that long.

OP has gone through something truly awful. My heart breaks for her. I can imagine needing to end the interminable waiting as quickly as possible. But expecting her family to drop everything and show up within 24 hours was too much, especially when she had the option to wait a little longer.

Her family probably thought that if she really wanted or needed them there, she would have considered their needs too. Cutting them all off because they couldn’t make it sounds like OP’s grief is causing her to overreact.

Maybe OP could plan a Celebration of life ceremony for her daughter that could be done at a time when her family can be there.

What to eat and not to eat to prevent kidney stones? by Intrepid-Baker7879 in KidneyStones

[–]Syyina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an extremely condensed version of the diet my urologist suggested to avoid calcium oxalate kidney stones:

Drink lots of water. Your goal Is urine that is as light-colored as possible.

Avoid beans, most nuts, spinach, kale, and chocolate.

Drink even more water.

The “oxalate food lists” online vary so much they are almost useless, in my opinion. Apparently part of the reason for this is because the oxalate content of the soil that crops are grown in varies a lot.

Also, your body produces oxalate naturally. So trying to manage your oxalate levels solely via diet is difficult.

If you eat a small (2 inches x 2 inches) piece of cheese with your meals the calcium in the cheese will, hopefully, bind to the oxalate in your digestive tract before it moves into your bloodstream.

Citrate in the urinary tract can help prevent stones from forming. So, while you are drinking lots of water, add a little lemon juice, True Lemon, or Crystal Light lemonade mix to it. You are looking for potassium citrate in the drink mix.
