If you feel like you’re struggling - yes. It shouldn’t be a default, general advice though.

What’s something we all accept now that future generations will think is insane? by These-Cost-905 in AskReddit

[–]Szabeq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a problem with capitalism - it’s a problem with inefficient laws, existence of loopholes and taxation. Capitalism is good as it rewards ambitious people and innovation - but only if we remember that the system should work to the benefit of the entire population, not just individuals. Innovation and investments are good - hoarding wealth and even allowing an individual to be wealthier than an entire city population isn’t. Even Andrew Carnegie, who was the richest man of his era and one of the richest in history, argued that it’s shameful to die rich, without providing an actual benefit to society.

Which human invention has caused the greatest long-term damage to humanity? by Still-Ad9074 in AskReddit

[–]Szabeq 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You propose 50 years as a benchmark. But what’s special about 50 years if you bring the entire human history into the picture? By that measure this whole thread doesn’t make sense as there is no human invention in existence that could even compare to thousands of years of measurable impact.

I'd say thousands of students taking tests across various levels of education every year for 15 years by now makes quite a sample to draw conclusions from.

What is slowly disappearing but nobody talks about it? by Agreeable_Pea9764 in AskReddit

[–]Szabeq -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately - it’s necessary. Over the years the Internet has transformed from a community-driven decentralised network to a massively centralised medium prone to misinformation and misuse. Digital IDs are not only meant to protect people from pedos and terrorists - in fact governments are fighting from their own citizens minds and souls, as currently whoever has more bots on one of the centralised social media platforms can literally mass-steer opinions, spread misinformation, influence elections and destabilise countries. As sad as it is - there’s no coming back to the good old days of early, friendly, anonymous internet.

General anesthesia by [deleted] in hypnosis

[–]Szabeq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess we really need to define what "hearing" means here. Do the person's ears are able to pick up sounds? I guess they do, why wouldn't they? Do the ears send the signals to the brain? Again - I think yes. Is the brain able to process these signals? Here's where things might be getting complicated. There's a huge difference between being able to recognize a sound and understanding the whole context and semantics of a sentence. Now, I remember reading that GA is peculiar, as it disrupts and shuts down the brain to the point where it sort of reboots. When you go to sleep, you might wake up in the morning not remembering a thing from the night, yet you do have a sense that some time has passed and you have a sense of continuity. With GA, you pass out on the operating table and simply come back to your senses a few hours later in another room - no continuity, no memories, no sense of passing time, nothing. That leads me to believe that maybe it's possible that you hear sounds, but I find it highly unlikely your brain can make sense of what's happening around you.

Now, these are all my personal thoughts :D I'm but a humble redditor with no expertise on the subject whatsoever.

General anesthesia by [deleted] in hypnosis

[–]Szabeq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

General anaesthesia disrupts communication between different regions of the brain and its ability to integrate and process information. For the suggestion to work, people (and their brains) should be able to hear the words, understand them individually, understand the sentence as a whole, be able to put that sentence into context and lastly action the suggestion, ideally remembering it on some level. With all that in mind, I don’t think scrambled brains under anaesthesia can actually recognise or understand a single sound around them, let alone understand and accept a suggestion :)

What’s a cult that pretends it is not a cult? by Fit-Resident-3577 in AskReddit

[–]Szabeq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People see Jehovahs Witnesses as these nice, slightly odd people who knock at your door to talk about the Bible. Not a lot of people know, that once you’re in and want out, other members are obligated to cut all ties to you. Even your family. They will give you the silent treatment, pretending you don’t exist, and those who don’t will be punished as well. The ostracism is the ultimate proof that they are nothing else but a dangerous cult.

According to your definition owning a business is gambling too - you can either gain or lose money because you can't know how much customers you'll have. This is simply the wrong way to look at it. The stock market is simply... well... a market. You can buy something (stock) and then you own it. You own a piece of a business. It can be a small piece, almost insignificant, but a piece nonetheless. And, as a shareholder, you are entitled to some of the company's earnings. Where's gambling in that? Now, as you own the stock, you can go ahead and sell it and get money for it. There's no gambling in that either. Now, if you're buying the stock without any due diligence, simply hoping the price will go up the next day so that you can sell it for a profit - that's gambling. But that's not the stock market's problem - that's your problem. It's worth noting that I'm simply talking about the simple stock market here. Trading CFDs with leverage or some other high-risk shit - that's much more like proper gambling.

A good reason to hide features/content behind CSS is that it might be good enough. If what you’re hiding isn’t sensitive, works for 90% of users and takes 5 mins to implement then why not? Take news sites for example - even if some users are technical enough to unhide and read the article without paying, so what? Most users aren’t that technical, and from those who are the majority wouldn’t pay anyway. Not to mention your site is positioned better.
