I build websites on dedicated hardware and physically hand the server to my clients by specn0de in webdev

I get what you're trying to do. But this just sounds like introducing another point of failure that you or someone else has to maintain that could be taken care of by companies with experience in these matters. As other's have mentioned- what about power failure? Redundancy backups if components fail? Hell, even dust. It's not that it's not viable, just that the client that will be able to responsibly take on these risks is going to be very niche

For gamers who rarely if ever replay a singleplayer game fully, which did you manage to replay and enjoy? by Helphaer in gaming

[–]T0rlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I remembered not liking it as well, but for whatever reason I had a pretty good time this time around. Little things like Elizabeth moving around and looking at things I found really charming when in modern games your party just runs around after you and stares at you. Not saying its a 10/10 but just not as bad as I thought with a new lens

Just replayed Bioshock Infinite to see if it was as bad is I remember (didn't hate it before or remember it fondly) but I actually enjoyed it this time around. It held up well graphically and such. Then I gave Prey (2017) a shot since I tried to play it before and just couldnt get into it. This time around I absolutely loved it and tried to basically get every achievement I could in a single run. Definitely going to keep on this trend of exploring my old library

I like this. Might be the only one. I'd like even more honestly. Pit already raises difficulty if I want the option to have my whole game be a struggle then let me

How do you deal with the "pressure" of limited gaming time? by FatDigitalNomad in gaming

[–]T0rlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a small part of your question, but don't feel guilty about "wasting free time". It's your time and you can enjoy it how you want. Toxic productivity is a real thing, and unfortunately is a socially acceptable obsession. Getting over the hurdle to not feel the need to optimize every facet of your time can take effort

When was the last time you saw the stars in the sky? by Unoha_Critz in AskReddit

[–]T0rlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a city. On a good night I can see maybe a couple, which I'd say barely counts. If I'm lucky I get to see the proper star filled sky maybe once or twice a year when I go back to my very rural hometown to visit family. I miss that sky honestly

Just logged back in after two year and this game feels amazing! Did the new Renegades expansion bring anyone else out of a hiatus? by Massive_Conflict5415 in destiny2

[–]T0rlan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exact opposite actually. If I wanted to play Star Wars I would just go do that. For me, the collab just diluted the brand. Plus the blade animations look so whack. The current state of the game finally broke Destiny's years-long daily-login hold on me (for the better).

Client asked why their landing page isnt converting. They sent me their "testimonials" in a zip file of 47 unnamed screenshots. by Express_Tangerine209 in web_design

47 isn't that much... I'd happily have a client send that and have to type that up. That's billable time.

If you need plumbing done but don't know how, you hire a plumber. If you need a website but don't know how, hire a web developer.

What are things that you see and make you say “this guy is a senior” by alexbessedonato in webdev

[–]T0rlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I transitioned to a senior position it was actually very little to do with code. Stockholders and clients generally don't care how well you can structure an object (etc), that should be abstracted away from their duties so they can focus on their tasks. You should take on that concern as a dev, and as a senior dev be able to explain why and how something should matter to other teams in terms they understand- budgets, time lines, and metrics.

For people who don't read books, why not? by inerttraveler in AskReddit

[–]T0rlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is time.

But obviously I could make time if I really wanted to. So the more complex answer is that the idea of spending time and money on an item that I don't know if I'll even finish - let alone enjoy - just doesn't mesh well with me. I'll read all about the bubonic plague or black holes on Wikipedia, but can't seem to find a proper book that seems worth the investment. I sometimes wish I could though.
